  1. Quite a statement from Bo. Bo Nix Says Oregon Would Beat No. 1 Georgia If 2 Teams Played Again Today WWW.MSN.COM Oregon and quarterback Bo Nix continued to roll last week, handing UCLA its first loss of the season with a 45-30 win. The Ducks have a legitimate claim as the best team in the Pac-12, having scored...
  2. That was beautiful article. Insightful and objective, loved it.
  3. What's best for the conference? I'm beeping as I write. UW- they already have national recognition and would create the biggest of games with Oregon /UW being highly ranked when they came together. College Gameday anyone? UU- respected, tough, consistent beyond belief. They are just a game or two away from elite status. They are highly respected as a 2nd tier team in a Big 5 conference. Yes, I know they win and have won the PAC, but how many times? Keep on Keep'n on UU. You are desperately needed to be elite. Furd- National recognition for being the B1G team from the west coast. Tough, Smart, plays USC, a'Nother L'ame team each year. This gives noteriatey to the PAC as well. Those 4 teams being in the top 15 each year would make The PAC contenders for #2 conference. Possibly even for #1. Thats top 4 against top 4 that is. That brings me to a mild gripe. Georgia, Alabama, and who else is the cream of the SEC? Auburn? Thats a dumpster fire. Florida? Average with really good players. Ole Miss? I considered that team a middle of the PAC team if they played west coast. Tennessee looks incredible, but up until last year was a dumpster fire for 20 years possibly more. An embarrassment really. My gripe is that the SEC's motto is 'It Just Means More'. To the fans? Sure. But, take out the top 3 and you couldn't tell who was better among the remaining power 5 conferences top tier teams. It's Alabama, Georgia, and this year, Tennessee, and everyone else in the SEC. The B1G is Tosu, Ummm, with Illinois coming out of nowhere for a distant third. The ACC is floating down the river on fire with Clemson as the only respectable team. How bad is the ACC? Syracuse is dominating, yeah, Syracuse. The BIG 12 has who? Ugh, well, let me see.....Baylor or OK st? I just got skeered...nope.
  4. I might also add, Bo had an interception to TD ratio around 40%. If there were 5 td's in a game, then there was a probability of having 2 INT's. This year? 17td's to 3Int's. Thats less than 1/2 of his career at Auburn. Take out the UGA game that was a debacle by any stretch of the imagination, and its 1-INT verses 17TD's. Under 6% INT/TD ratio!! That's inceedible! I'm going with Bo was frustrated at Auburn and struggled so as to force issues. Also, he is much more mature. Go Bo!!
  5. In this week's Interview on Tuesday, Bo stated that, at Auburn, the play called was the play ran. What he loves about here is that there are 'Check-Downs'. This supports my previous thesis that QB's can be hamstrung inside an offense and 'de-evolve'. Maybe, this is why I have such a sour taste in my mouth with Anthony Brown. His numbers weren't bad per se', but it just felt like something was wrong. Now, held in the NFL. You don't make it there without clearing some hurdles right? I'm guessing Bo has always been the 5* but his coordinator made him below average.
  6. Jamis Winston comes to mind. 14-0 is mind boggling. While the disparity is galling, the reality is their is bad calls every single game. The SEC, IMO, doesn't have better Refs, the have Refs that swallow their laundry. And I hate it when the announcers say something to the effect of 'the Refs are letting them play football and settle it on the fields. I just Verped in my mouth. 'Our team' always gets disproportionately called. Its the nature of the fans perception. It does happen but I'm in the camp that it happens indiscriminately. Make no mistake, each conference has a personality when it comes to officiating, not by the fans mind you, but the way each game is called. PAC officiating strives to get it right to an annoying degree. See review each play for 5 minutes....ugh. I would be interested to see the number of penalties each conference commits each year. Then, break it down between ranked teams playing verses unranked teams playing. Ranked vs unranked would be another metric. We as fans love to find 'Homerisms' against our team. I believe the world is out to get Oregon....every game!! But, 14-0 gets an eyebrow raise from just about everyone.
  7. Well now, wouldn't that be a headliner??!! It's incredibly early, but I've been thinking. This usually gets me in trouble, but it will get the gears turning in this forum that's for sure. It's no secret that The NFL is the end goal for College Football players. To get to the League is a dream come true. However, getting drafted anywhere out of the first round is a financial crap shoot. Sure, you do have guaranteed money, but it most likely wouldn't be the payday that Oregon faithful would muster up if we finish the season with a PAC title and a respectable showing in the Bowl game(s). How Bo projects in the draft could very well set him up for an Oregon run next year. If he doesn't get invited to NY for the Heisman ceremony, what are the odds that he gets invited next year with Hawaii, Texas Tech, and PSU slated for non-con stat padding? Bo could very well eclipse 50 TD's next year along with back to back PAC Championships. The impact to his draft stock would be demonstrably evident. He would be a first rounder with the 'Signing Bo-nus' to match. Sticking around for an invite to NY and a first round pick could mean the difference of $30-$40 million guaranteed. 6-7 weeks to clarity.
  8. I love the personalities. It is definitely part of what makes CFB a treat each Fall Saturday. Saban whining about NIL and ATM getting the best players. Mike Gundy from OK st. I'm a man and I'm 40, rant. Corso donning the head gear.... And on....and on. I LOVE this time of year!!
  9. Oregon wouldn't be anywhere close to 6 wins without him. Do we get to 12 without him? Not close IMO.
  10. These last 6-7 games, CC included, need to have Bo get at least 4 TD's a game. He got 5!! Potentially 6 games left and I believe there is 4 games per with a couple netting 5+. I believe 50 and a 12-1 team that is going to the playoffs gets an invite to New York for the Heisman. We shall see...
  11. Reading a recent article about BONIX and his offensive explosion left me wondering; Just how many Td's can BONIX get this year? At first glance I see 6 games and 20 TD's and one can reasonable say that another 20 would be reasonable. This line of reasoning is flawed. The first game had 0 TD's. The next 5 games came against average teams at best sans BYU. However, UCLA and Utah would be a good test. But, there are Cal and Colorado up following UCLA. UW and Utah follow with OSU finishing off the regular season. I think BONIX gets more than 20 TD's to finish the season. Here's my prognostication; UCLA) 4 total TD's CAL) 4 total TD's Colorado) 6 total TD's UW) 4 total TD's UU) 4 total TD's OSU) 5 total TD's I believe Bo is going to ramp up TD's, not necessarily because the teams will be more agreeable to give up TD's, but that the whole team is gelling quite well for starters. Oregon's offensive line just seems to be getting better and better as the season progresses. This helps Bo have increasing time to run through his progressions. The entire receiving core is also getting better at route running. Add a conference championship game of another 4 TD's and there is a potential of 31 additional TD's to finish the year. Why is this significant? Marcus Mariota had 57 TD's in his Heisman year. He had a passing efficiency of 186.33 and a total offense of 4452 yards. It also helped that MM took Oregon to the playoffs to secure that Heisman. Can Bo get to 57? I don't think so. But, this is the kind of year that Bo is building right now. Maybe not Heisman quality, but a top 5 and possibly the second best stats for an Oregon QB in any given year. Whether Bo knows 50+ TD's remains to be seen. But, currently, Bo is 7th in Heisman rank with prognosticators. It's a real probability that Bo gets an invite if he keeps going the way he is going. WAR DUCK!!!!!!!
  12. I think our D is better than theirs. Our run game is better. Air attack is about the same. That's the difference. Oregon 45-38.
  13. Whaaaaaaaaaaat?????
  14. 38-27. This game looks real good. I love DTR's game. Oregon D should be just fine with the same recipe as against AU. Get after that QB!
  15. I have watched and pondered, with mild amusement, the jump to assess Ty Thompson. He played a series and threw it 4 times. While he hasn't looked like a field general, he hasn't really been in the game yet to get it cemented. Which takes me to another view point on Ty. Qb's, of all football positions, have strengths and weaknesses that are revealed depending on the scheme, Bonix is a prime example. Average at best with Auburns offense, but a world beater under Dilly's offense. Does this mean that Bo, last year, wasn't a good QB? Well, kind of. Does this mean TT isn't a good QB or.....? TT was recruited by MC to play in that offense. The skill set was what MC wanted. I don't view this as something is wrong under the hood. I view this as the right QB strengths for the system you are recruited into. BONIX knew good and well that the current OC has an offense that displays his strengths. He came to Oregon sight unseen but knowing exacttlyhe would be on display with his strengths, the current OC knew it too.
  16. The only night games should be in September when the weather isn't a factor for the travelers. 8:00pm??!!!!! That hurt! 5:00pm is a reasonably late game that gets Portlanders home around 11:00. Not too bad. Bend by 11:30ish. Reasonable. 3:30 is the best time IMO. Perfect for BBQ tail gaters and home around 9:00ish
  17. This makes the most sense. If you have a clear path to the Championship playoffs, then why mess with it? We have tons of money with endowments and the like. Keep putting an above average product on the field and in the Arena, and Oregon will be just fine.
  18. Brilliant article with an out of the box view of Oregon. Loved it! My $.02. The teams that wish to woo away an Oregon HC tend to be traditional powerhouses that can't stand a rebuilding year. $0 patience. Oregon is trending towards that mentality even though they aren't there quite yet. Helfrich anyone? So, a lower level, first tier school will always except a 10 win season in expectation of a shot at a NC every 5-10 years. USC? Florida St? Miami? The NFL? No way! Best move for Lanning, if he's all that, is to build the Georgia/Alabama of the West Coast and dominate for the next 25-30 years. Bet there's tons of 10+ win seasons and titles to go with it. Saban has it figured out. Find your recipe and then stick with it.
  19. Getting too emotional on any given play can distract a bit too long. It can take you off your next play mentally. It also smacks of Individualism in probably the most 'team' sport. A hard fought game, thats close, with 2 minutes left and a go ahead score is something to release your energy about. What I believe should be standard con'duck'd is 1) excitement for a spectacular play---not first down 2) dancing to "Shout" with the fans. Everyone in the stadium is doing it, not just the students 3) keep your mouth shut to opposing players 'after the whistle'. Getting in their head before the snap is part of it. 4) Show your loyalty to your 'Team' by not being undisciplined with 'Personal Fouls'. It's incredibly selfish and cost Oregon 11 points minimum last night. Oregon looks like a team that could crush all but 3-5 teams in all of FBS. They just aren't disciplined enough to do it yet. Not crisp enough, not clean enough. It looks like they are playing sand lot football some of the time, more than normal. Also, BONIX has a weakness, he throws the deep ball waaaay too late. He has receivers that consistently outran their defenders, then BONIX would throw, should be, interceptions twice last night into double coverage. Throw the stinking ball 2 seconds after snap to the sideline 40 yds down, thats his consistent limit of accuracy, the field and let the fastest guys chase it down. These are TD's cooking in the pot waiting to be served up. I'm sure Lanning saw that and will implement ASAP.
  20. Looks like we need superb athletes on the D line to make it sing. Smart and fast athletes in the secondary
  21. The clearest path to the playoffs is staying right here in the PAC. Playoff money with conference payout could be close to B1G money and a clearly difficult path to the playoffs.
  22. Big Ten's pursuit of Oregon, Washington, Stanford, Cal could collapse Pac-12: report 247SPORTS.COM ...
  23. For the last 20+ years of my love affair with CFB, I haven't been much of a fan of transfer QB's. I prefer developing the diamonds in the ruff. But, it has become increasingly clear in recent years, and this year especially, that I am seriously out of tune. 7 teams in the PAC have transfer QB's lighting it up and it's making the PAC highly respectable. This makes me wonder, why weren't they utilized at their previous school? Tyler Van Dyke is the case study for my argument. Last year he is lights out but this year he gets benched against Middle Tennessee???? Coaching is the problem. You don't have a world beater digress like that unless you shackle him. How long does he stay at THE U? Not long one would think. Bo Nix turns into an average QB under Auburns system, transfers into an offense, and OC that understands his strengths, and has a career day last Saturday???? Well, well, well.... To be sure, I prefer developing your own recruits. But, there is no denying a player being spurned by his former team but put in a system that identifies his strength and is willing to maximize their personnel. Mariø is stubborn, Van Dyke won't stay around unless Mariø adjusts. I'm guessing the system stays but Van Dyke doesn't. Just sad....
  24. I think something is missed in the discussion of streaming and time starts. We tend to think of fans in the radius of attending at Autzen. What's missed is fans around the world that aren't in love with watching the game at 5:00am, but that's them apples. One would surmise that Oregon fans record those games and watch at a later time anyway if they can get it in the first place. Now add 'Prime Video' or AppleTV, and you stream it anywhere in the world on your phone. Watch it anytime even years down the road. It's readily accessible. Do those fans care about start times? Nope. However, I see the point made by so many here, cheeks in the seats looks way better than empty stadiums. Getting home at midnight is tough no doubt. But, I must say, I loooove the occasional night game in September early October. Night games have a different atmosphere. Tailgating is waaay different. I applaud 1-2 night games in the first half of the season. Last half? Not so much. It's colder and potentially wetter, (it never rains at....) and that just adds to the increased difficulty in heading home. I would love to see a streaming media deal that becomes a full partner with the PAC network. All sports and a clear Marqui game from each team. Pay outs based on linked viewers. The NFL has what, 17 games streaming for Thursday's? We could have 3 each week minimum, possibly 5 during conference play for a total of 45 games in conference and 30 non con. That's for football alone. Throw in some Men's Bball and we have around another 180 games. Women's is another 180 games. Baseball and all the other sports just adds more. The money sports are 435 games minimum. Throw in the playoffs and Bowl games and that's more frosting to our cake. How much goes to streaming? But the content is not paltry. Another thing, Oregon is a Brand. People in New York don't care about any team from New York. Oregon, with good marketing and favorable time slots, would show well on the east coast. People who want to watch a specific game could set to stream their 'line up'. Now, if only to get rid of the annoying scoring updates running at the bottom of my screen. I want to watch my recorded game and not be burned with the end score. I can get the highlights at the end of the day.
