One of These Things is Not Like the Others
Log Haulin replied to The Kamikaze Kid's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
How about " Prop me up beside the goal post if I die: Joe Diffie" -
Men like this are rare. The response was thoughtful and thorough and precise. This was addressed quickly and for the most part, we can move on without much worry. Untill A&M makes a hire not named Dan Lanning they are still a threat. But the odds of Dan being the guy has dropped to about .05%. That answer is about as good as we fans could have hoped for.

Canzano on Lanning to TAMU: 'Have You Met the Guy?'
Log Haulin replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Does Lanning use this as an opportunity to increase his salary? How hard does he push Oregon without crossing the line? Does A&M come at Dan around 12 mil or more to put pressure on him? Is Lanning worth top 3 pay? He really hasn't won anything yet. He hasn't even beaten a rival (0-3). He is however 19-4 as a HC. Thats a pretty phenomenal record out of the blocks. Also, Dans cealing seems to be super high. So do you pay Dan more money on a possibility he will get Oregon over the hump? I have a hard time thinking you pay him on a "what may be". Lanning just got a huge bump in pay and an extension. This is a very tricky situation and both sides need to be careful. If Dan demands a match he could lose support of boosters and the fan base. I have way more questions than answers. And most of my answers are more just thinking out load than hard opinions/beliefs. -
Oregon Special Teams -- What's Up With Camden Lewis?
Log Haulin replied to SilverDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Lewis made 87ish percent of his fg last year. 64ish percent this year. He was perfect through first 5 games. He has to make these from 45 and in or Lanning needs to try someone else. Penalties and the kicking game will cost Ducks again if it isn't fixed. -
Some will end up in the B1G and big12. But isn't it a product of leadership. Hopefully the officiating leadership in the B1G is much better. It's a hard job for sure.
-
I think it depends on timing. If it's a few years down the road and Lanning has established Oregon as a national top 5 power in the B1G with a trophy in the case, I don't know if any program at the college level will be a threat. At that point Lanning will be fully entrenched as an Oregon Duck. Probably looking to build a legacy as Saban did at Bama. I think Lanning is capable of Saban status, only needed element is time. But A&M is coming at him early in his HC career. That makes them a threat.
-
I also think the Oregon job is better than the A&M job. But I am a Fan. I think my team is the best job in the country. Oregon is definitely a top 10 job in my view. Doesn't really matter what fans and analysts say or think is the better job. It matters what head coaches think. aTm is a highly coveted job in the coaching circles of college football. This is a real threat to Oregon. I hope Lanning views Oregon as the better job but am not sure he does. I hope Duck brass has a long talk with Lanning today. Puts it on the table and Lanning concludes its a no brainer. Go Ducks!

Tranfer portal should be ripe. aTm had a #1 class a couple years back. A ton of talent on that team. How many jump?
-
I don't disagree with any point you made. aTm is a serious program though. And that will require Lannings due diligence. But this will come down to a family decision and rightfully so.
-
If I were Lanning I would take a close look at the aTm job. I would have indepth conversations with the brass at both universities. Oregon is solid but aTm checks all the boxes. Every coach in the country knows this is true. It's why Jimbo took the job. Lanning owes it to his family to look at this job more that just casually. I hope Lanning stays put but I have my doubts. Oregon is a great program that is up and coming as a CFB power. aTm is different though and should be taken seriously. Just one mans opinion.

The Disrespect for the Beavers Never Ends...
Log Haulin replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Josh Pate will be in Corn-valis. So thats respect from someone who is actually legit. -
Hind sight is 20-20. But when Nix first showed up, many fans didn't like it. And not just Oregon fans. Folks all over the country were questioning the move. Nix didn't exactly fall in Oregons lap. We heard things like "Bo-pixs", "play our 5*", "we want Thompson" and on and on. After the UGA game that rhetoric ramped up. Nix is a jewel but Oregon had something to do with that. Ducks played a part in knocking the grime off and polishing that jewel. Auburn definatly had tossed Nix in the scrap heap. It also appears that Thompson is being polished in the same manner. There is probably no one here that thought Nix would become the Heisman leader at Oregon. I agree, Nix is a generational player, hard to replace. Very few saw it coming in. I am glad that the ones that mattered saw it. Next year it will be Ty Thompsons turn. And this fan believes Ty can get it done. Not at Nixs level, but at a very high level and thats all Oregon needs. So its true, Bo Nix is a gem that the SEC threw in the trash. Oregon swooped him up, cleaned him up and put him on a path of greatness. Nix plays a huge part in that but so does Oregon.
-
I disagree, he can address his team and put them at ease. He took a job at Oregon then turned around and led UGA to a national championship. He did just fine keeping his Dawgs D focused. This will be done long before the early signing period. Recruiting won't be affected unless he took the aTm job. If I am Dan, I use this as an opportunity to secure generational wealth for my family. His first obligation is to his family. And thats exactly what he should do

Ducks Top Trojans On Sloppy Saturday

I am sure it was a thing all game. Refs ignored it. Either way, tou can't let it or the officials beat you and Ducks didn't. -

You could see the switch flipped after the Fusky game. I think Lanning second guesses himself now and this waters the seed of insecurity and doubt. Lanning got hammered on after the UW loss. I believe it has affected his coaching. The coaching decisions of that game are still being talked about. This is a game measured by very thin margins. An 8-4 team might not be that far separated from 11-1. The slightes decisions can make all the difference. -
The Disrespect for the Beavers Never Ends...
Log Haulin replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Beaves have spent the past decade being a crappy program. Respect is earned not just granted because your better than average for a season, imo. Ducks don't get much respect either. Untill they win a NC, this will continue. Untill then, Ducks will always be that cute team in Eugene with the uni's. All while the UGA, Bama, tOSUs of the world win titles. Don't believe me? Look at the pre-season ranking of USC and ND every year. Thats respect, misguided or not -

Caleb got a lot of help on a phantom PI and a phantom hold. Ducks O line gave up 2 tfl and no sacks. But the penalties were ridiculous and need to be fixed. 10 games have been played and they haven't been so probably won't be. Lack of discipline will probably be what keeps the Ducks out of a shot at the crown. -
Is Lannings heart in the SEC? He says all the right things but that means nothing when it comes to College HCs. Ducks aren't Bama, UGA, tOSU or the few other traditional BlueBlood progr'ms. UofO can sweeten the job but tradition is attractive. So untill Ducks put some titles on the books, they are susceptible to getting their coach poached. Just the way it is in my opinion..
