I would think OLinemen would sit out. Pretty violent in the trenches. Wouldn't want to get rolled up on and blow out a knee.

Do you think MC and Oregon had something to do with that? Look at TVD and Herbert under MC. TT also had a Heisman candidate brought in a take opportunity from him. What bothers me is a lot of people are borderline dumping on Ty. I think Oregon more than Ty had something to do with his lacking development. Oh well, everyone is moving on now. -

Wow! TT is no longer a Duck so I guess he is fair game. I don't think TT got a fair shake, but it's cool. -

Gabriel can play, make no mistake about that. Can he be at the level Nix played at Oregon? I think so but he doesn't have that second year in the system Bo was afforded. Gabriel is a top 5 in college football. He has played a ton of football. 50ish games. DG will have some big dudes protecting him and some elite talent to throw the ball to. He will also have a D capable of protecting a lead. I think QB's in the future will naturally gravitate to the Fresno's and Boise st of CF. Get a couple years of development then TP out to a power 2. I realized this morning an interesting difference in my respose to Oregon landing an absolute dude at QB. With Nix I was jacked when he announced. Most QB's before him also. I don't have much of an emotional response to the "hire' of Gabriel. Could be my disappointment with the Thompson development. Could be the "hired hand" development, IDK. Interesting though. -

Gabriel Gives Oregon a Shot in ’24
Log Haulin replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Dan Lanning and his staff haven't had enough time to show they can develope a QB. They have shown they can put an established QB in position to be successful. Auburn was unable to do that with Nix. Lanning gave Nix a top 5 O line, top 5 receiving corps, top 5 RB room. That took a ton of pressure off Nix he didn’t have with AU. So far, Lanning hasn't taken a non-starting QB and turned him into a power 5 starting QB on an elite team. Partly because he has only been on the job for 23 months. So the jury is still out in my opinion. I can't say definitively that Lanning and his staff have shown to excel at QB development. They have made QB's better for sure. All QB's in the room are better than they were last season. To me, taking a player out of high-school and developing him into an elite power 5 starter will be required before I can credit this staff on QB development. It's not a knock on the Oregon coaching staff. They just haven't had that tested at this point. Talent evaluation and acquisition? Lanning gets an A+. -
Gabriel Gives Oregon a Shot in ’24

The opportunity to sign Dillon Gabriel is a no brainer in my opinion. It gives the Ducks perhaps the best chance to be competitive at the highest level going into the B1G. Much like the Nix signing in 22', this is most likely a game changing "hire". Going from an unknown but hopeful in TT to a known commodity in Gabriel takes a lot of pressure off this team and staff. Gabriel is an elite level QB that had the Sooners in the National conversation for a moment. He was in the Heisman conversation until he Suffered a head injury v. BYU. Okie dropped a couple games after the injury that took him out of the Heisman race and Sooner out of a playoff run. But this dude can play. For Oregon to be able to reload at the QB position so quickly says something about Oregon and this Lanning team. The Nix "hire" in 22' and what Nix was able to do here will pay dividends for years. Elite QB's will want to be a part of that. I think Oregon will become a school known to put QB's in 1st round draft status in the future. The rumors on Donte Moore are interesting. Landing Gabriel and Moore in the TP and signing Smith Jr could set up Oregons QB room for the next 5 years. Hope Lanning can develope QB position (yet to be seen) and Akili Smith Jr becomes elite. Lastly, I wish TT all the best. I am rooting hard for the guy and was hoping he would get his shot at Oregon. I hope he takes what He learned from Nix and Oregons staff and kills it next year. -
Ty Thompson Enters Transfer Portal
Log Haulin replied to DrJacksPlaidPants's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Ty needs to run as far away from Mario as possible. That said, I hope Ty finds a solid team and a starting roll. Dude got shafted in my opinion. I will root for the Ducks and Ty Thompson to dominate next year. Good luck to you young man. Hope you put second thoughts in Lanning head next year -
Well Now! New Rumors About Dante Moore and OREGON...
Log Haulin replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I know this is a popular opinion but again... I have to disagree. IMO, the only thing Ty lacking is snap count. He has never gotten on the field this year for meaningful, prolonged drives. How could he with Bo Nix sitting in front of him. But Ty's numbers are solid this year Last year Ty got in the game when Bo got injured and it wasn't pretty. It seems that sceen has been played on a loop in fans minds ever since. Last year came in the wake of Mario's staff being the development of Ty as a QB. Everyone here knows what that is. Look at TVD and Herbert as an example. One goes to the league and balls out, the other goes from frosh of the year to... Meh! Ty Thompson has gotten a raw deal. DL is paid $7m a year to win football games. Can't blame him for grabbing an experienced asset in Gabriel. But no matter how you slice it, it craps all over Thompson. The education slant doesn't really play. TT is a former 5* who didn't get developed by MC and got stuck behind Nix. Massive bummer. But if education is the prize, Ty could have done the same thing at UW or Furd. Heck, He probably would have started at Furd or OSU. So the bottom line for me is Ty Thompson got short strawed. It's unfortunate for sure. But I am not going to sit here and say the guy can't play. That just adds insult to injury. The guy can play, I have no doubt about that. I bet his teammates have no doubt either. I hope Ty goes and finds a starting role on a good team in 24'. Hope he catches lighting in a bottle and gets an invite to NY next December. Then secures himself a first round contract in the League. He has all the skill set and size to do exactly that. Don't know what else Lanning and Oregon could have done, but man, what a raw deal for the man. -
Oregon Signs QB DILLON GABRIEL per 247SPORTS
Log Haulin replied to Mudslide's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I mentioned both Moore and Gabriel landing in Eugene the other day. It sounds ridiculous. But wow, It just might happen. Thats would be crazy. What does Oregon do about Akili Smith Jr? Seems it would lay out nicely. Gabriel is 1 and done. That gives Moore a year to learn and develope befor getting 2 years starting. That puts Smith in line to start after 2 years development coming into his soph year. If Lanning plays this right the QB room is set for the next 5 years. Fingers crossed. -
Ty Thompson does have a 77% completion percentage. Limited snaps, I get it but that demonstrates an ability to see the field imo. Even Bo has locked onto a reciever and threw a bad ball. On one play Bo locked in and missed a wide open Bryant that would have converted on 4th down. Oregon lost that game and had he found Bryant Ducks go victory formation. We as fans see a fraction of what all of these players do. We only get Saturday's. 99.9% of Thompsons work has been done in closed practices, the locker room and the film room. If the coaches think a more game time experienced QB is what they want or need, I support that. They would know much more than me about it. It appears that what TT needs is snap count. If Ducks take Dillon, TT will run out of eligibility before he sees the field. Times up for Ty and it would be foolish for him to stick around. I hope Lanning has the integrity to tell him as much.
-
Moore stated he wanted to go where he would be developed. A year behind Gabriel would do exactly that. If both come to Oregon, Lanning needs to man up and let Ty know the moment he finds out. Ty deserves at least that. I have no doubt Lanning will go all in for making sure Ty is in a good situation If I was a 5* QB in todays reality i would go to a mid major for 2 years and play. Hit TP and cash checks.

Civil War Renewed For 2024 And Beyond
Log Haulin replied to Babyjesus615's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
This has been an incredibly tumultuous time for Pac-12 members. In time, tempers will wane. In the end, this game is good for the state of Oregon and the fans of both programs. Besides, my experience being a little brother growing up, clearly little brothers are fun to pick on. -
Ty hasn't gotten the meaningful minutes with the ones to make such a definitive claim. IMO With the 2's Ty is compleating 77% of his passes, has 4 TD and his one INT isn't on him. He is also avg 6 yrds per rush. Dude is 6'4" 225lbs. Players on the team claim a different narrative and say he is a Dude. Ty is going to ball out somewhere, if not at Oregon I hope it's not in the B1G.

Transfer Portal Impact on QBs Recruited Out of High School?
Log Haulin replied to cartm25's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Edit: I posted this elsewhere but it fits better here The pressure to win is "Now". Year in and year out. HC's get paid millions to win. The leash is short. Ducks pay theirs $7m. The portal give coaches an out from having to develop a QB. Why risk a losing season and millions of dollars when you can just poach another QB from the portal. If one of the QB's Oregon has on their roster isn't ready, thats on the coaches. Some of them have all the skills to be elite and the coaches haven't performed in developing them to take over the starting roll? So it the belief that Oregon has to go to the portal... again. What is this? The third time in a row? Why can't Oregon coaches, 2 different staffs and several OC's, develope a QB at a high level? If Oregon has to go the road of the mercenary, QB's will eventually stop coming. These kids were recruited by these coaches and IMO, failed by these coaches. They choose Oregon over XYZ on a belief they will be prepared to reach their highest level. That has not happened since MM, Herbert was underserved by Oregons coaching staff. At some point I hope we can find a coach that can develope a QB. It's only Lannings second year and Steins first, so jury is still out. These are just my thoughts and opinions. Most importantly, they are subject to change. -

The 'Left-Out' Bowl Will Be Ugly...
Log Haulin replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Maybe. The opposite could be true as well. UGA could come out disinterested and FSU could feel disrespected and look for vengence. At least thats the argument many made with the Huskies about the P12 CG. -
Both coaches are good coaches imo. DeBoer has seen a ton more games as HC than Lanning has. That is a difference maker. Lanning has a high ceiling that will take a few years to get close to. At least I hope he does. I also hope he stays at Oregon long enough to reach that cealing. As for this game, and this is just my opinion. DeBoer played Lanning like a cat and mouse. DeBoer knew exactly how Lanning was going to play this right from the start. KD made adjusments all week and smacked Oregon in the mouth coming out of the gate. What leads me to believe Lanning has the chops is the way he adjusted and countered to overcome a 17 point deficit. Not an easy task against a top 2 team in the country. DeBoer is a brilliant coach though. Adjusted in the end and got the last laugh. He had his team ready from the start and played this out brilliantly. Checkmate. I tip my hat. Offer a congratulatuons and at the end of the day... Huck the Fuskys.

This is a great insight on Bo. I respect Bo's decision from this view point. I still think the risk is too high but I am not the one at risk. If I was Lanning, I would bench Bo and let him call plays from the sideline.

Liberty is going to come out with their hair on fire. This is the biggest game in Liberty history. They will be looking to hit anyone and everyone in their way. They will bring juice, violence and aggression. This game means everything to Liberty. Flip the coin, this game has zero impact on the Ducks season. Win or lose Ducks gain nothing. I don't see how risking millions to a possible career ending injury in a game that means little is a smart decision. I see I am standing alone on this. Thats ok. I hope Bo escapes this unscathed and goes into the NFL a high 1st round pick. I have seen enough of Bo and it has been a blast. I don't need to see "one more for the team" when the risk/reward doesn't balance out.
-
I hope Lanning is clear sighted enough to give Bo zero snaps in this bowl game.
