  1. I would settle for a D that gave the offense the ball on the opponent side of the 50 in 50% of possessions defended.
  2. Makes sense to me. I love Nix game. I think he is a great player. Thanks for pointing this out for me.
  3. I don't mind the bend don't break philosophy on defense. The problem with it is when the offense comes out flat or the opposing defense game plan stops them in their tracks. The Kelly offense, at times, played miserably and it put a ton of pressure on Nick's D. Lost some pivotal games against Az and others if my memory serves me right. I trust the process of Lanning's D learning his system week to week. I think by season end this will not be a bend don't break D. Looking forward to the " we are going to grind you into the dirt at your own 5 yard line, take the ball from you and score " defense.
  4. When these two teams meet, up to that point each team will have played 9 games.
  5. 9-0 Fusky v. 8-1 Ducks brings Gameday to Eugene. That is good for the Ducks.
  6. 12 is a great class for any first year Staff. Would really like to see some O line recruits brought in. Still early but its becoming a concern
  7. The quality of the OBDF brand has increased significantly since I have become a member. Huge appreciation to everyone involved in making this a great place for Duck fans to gather. The intelligence of the conversations here are second to none. Some very high football IQ's on OBDF. I have become a better fan as a result.
  8. I am hearing Tree could be without two OT's ☹. The passing game could get a little tough for Furd if true.
  9. This is the best feed I have had the joy of reading. I am a much smarter fan for it. Thanks. I remember, it was last week I think, Lanning was defending Noah Sewell's play. Many of us were concerned about the lack of production from NS. We fans were so used to him running around the field blowing guys up last year. There were a ton of comments here about the concern of the LB play. These articles seem to have cleared it up a bit. Perhaps LB's are actually playing better, smarter team football this year. Even though it doesn't show on the stat sheet. Lanning's Ducks are just getting started. In a world of Me-Me and "I am going to get mine", Lanning has gotten this team to buy into "I am my brothers keeper" in a big way. This will only make these Young Ducks (82% underclassmen) better football players. Makin these young men, who aspire to be next level, that much more valuable to The League. It is much more clear as to why and how Georgia turned so many into high NFL draft picks. Thank you Dan Lanning and Kirby Smart. Go Ducks.
  10. When Bo came to Oregon there were a lot of fans that pushed against him as a starter and a Duck. It was understandable why. Amazing how he has won the hearts of even the staunchest critics. Dudes a baller. As of last Saturday, he solidified himself as a Duck as much as anyone ever has. There will always be some that will reject Nix no matter what. Short of a NC win. He will always be under the microscope. I think he embraces that. Nix was perfect in the last few minutes of the Cougs game. I think his best is yet to come. Go Ducks!
  11. I am trying to teach my wife about football. She likes watching the Ducks only because of me. No interest in anything football otherwise. I sent her these articles to try and help her understand what she is watching. She read a paragraph and glazed over then moved on to other things.Lol, I tried. Great articles for the fan of football. Looking forward to more of them. I really appreciate you guys that have the time to study it and bring it to the rest of us in an articulate way. Must read for all of OBDF.
  12. I like the safe play. It's a complicated defense Lanning is installing. Going to take a couple years for these players to get a full grasp and be able to execute at a high level. What a blessing there is so much youth on in this prog'm. Should accelerate the process. Less Mariø habits to break as well. The cover 2 helps reduce chunk plays over the top, live to play another down. Thanks OBDF, I understand the scheme a little better. Helps to enjoy the game a little more.
  13. Any one remember the 85' Bears and William Perry? Next time we are 1st and goal at the 3, i formation, Herbert in at fullback. Touchdown Oregon!
  14. I watched the WF v. Clem game this weekend. First time I had seen that offense and found it fun, interesting and very effective. It will take a lot of discipline for guys to stay in their lane defending it. I would put a LB on the back exclusively. Change it up from play to play but always have a guy assigned. Secondary has to play well. Passing game is Tree's strength. Gotta take a step up with Furds big receivers. I think Bridges has his best game of the season.
  15. If Dilly wants to bounce to go coach his alma mater, so be it. Would love to see him stick around but that is a pretty big opportunity. I don't know but I think he makes over a mil as Oregons OC. Could be wrong. Money might not be the driver at this point. Whether now or down the road, Dilly will move on to other things. Would love to see what he can do at Oregon for a few years first. If he is offered the ASU job he should take it. It's to big of an opportunity not to. If it were me, I believe in myself and go make ASU the best team in college football. Good luck to the young man no matter what he ends up with.
  16. I was impressed with how Cougs defended the short field in the first half. They came out fast and with a ton of energy. I have to recognize the great play by WSU in the red zone that first half. Dilly made some adjustments going into second half. I think Dilly grew up a bit in that cougs game. He got his 1%. Going forward, KD will be a much better play caller. That Cougs game should be huge in terms of team growth. We will see Saturday. Trees biggest threat is the passing game. I am more concerned about Ducks pass D than Dillys play calling. Hats off to the Cougars. They are a fun team to watch. I hope they play like that the rest of the year and it's not just teams playing bigger than they are on Oregon week.
  17. Irving and Wittington are killers right now. These two, imo, have created a lot of separation from the rest of the RB room. Especially Bucky. With the way the O line is playing and Bo's huge gains in IQ and decision making, these two are having huge success. I don't know how far behind them Cardwell is due to injury. I trust that the coaching staff knows what they are doing. I suspect match up week to week will dictate Caldwell snaps. Hope he plays next week against Tree.
  18. Thats another issue I have been thinking about. Bo's longest balls (in air) haven't led his receivers. Nix would have a couple more touchdowns on the sheet if he could. 30-40 yards he is good. 50+ and the receiver is waiting around like the DMV.
  19. Ok, late in the game with Ducks down 12. I looked at my wife who knows almost nothing about football and said... " Babe, Ducks can still pull this off. Score here quickly, get a three and out and score again for the win". Every Duck fan on the planet, every sports fan on the planet knows this is a common thought. She does not know this. She thinks I am a flippin genius. I doubled down on wins Saturday. Then... Mariø happened. It's a wonderful life.
  20. Would Oregon fans support Nix as the Starter if he chooses to play another year? Might be to early for this question but I was thinking about this possibility today at work. I have been all about the Bo Show since he announced his transfer to Oregon. It feels like I am one of very few. I would love to see Nix play 2 seasons at oregon. If Nix sticks around, Oregon would lose Butters or Ty to the TP for sure. I am fine with that, especially with DM coming in. Bo knows he won't have the protection he has this year from the Bulls up front. He will have a ton of skill talent with another year under them. I also assume the defense next year will be better by far with a year under Lanning's scheme. Would love to hear what others here think.
