  1. Karma is coming as I think OSU, Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa and Penn St. will win significantly more against the Trojans than they lose. Once the Ducks get to the B1G, add them to the list of teams that will dish out karma regularly. I don't blame USC for going to the B1G but this feels like one of those situations where there fans will regret this over the long term. It will look similar to what Nebraska has been enduring since they joined the B1G....a former blue blood that will never compete at the highest levels again.
  2. I like how he opened his press conference by reminding everyone the Ducks have the 7th largest TV audience and the fastest growing brand in college football...I took that as a quick pitch to the B1G.
  3. Lol, should they root for them if they make the playoff...who on this planet thinks that will happen? Why waste your breath even asking such a stupid question?
  4. I'm still a believer in CK...true, its just because of what he did for Oregon and so I hold him in high regard even to this day. That aside, I think he has turned the corner with UCLA and I expect he will continue to build their program upwards. I don't see them being on par year in and year out with with Ohio St, but I do think he will elevate the Bruins to be competitive with Penn St., Michigan, Michigan St., Iowa, Wisconsin yearly and the occasional conf. championship. I guess time will tell...
  5. All of that is true but there is something I think you may be undervaluing. I agree being coached and prepared to play at the next level is a huge part of the decision, however I think for some folks, the level of competition carries significant weight in the decision as well. They want to see how they stack up against the best and with the Pac in such a state of unknown flux right now, its hard to sell someone on that. Based on his statement "The Big Ten is different" it makes me think he wants to compete against top level competition and unfortunately at the moment, Oregon can't make that guarantee.
  6. It sure would be nice to do that but I don't see the opportunity happening with how stacked Utah is this year. I get why a recruit would make the decision to go to SC right now based on realignment, but it sounds like he is leaving the door open to Oregon if the Ducks end up in the B1G as well. If Oregon gets an invite to B1G or SEC after this season and they have the type of season my gut says they will, this cat will be a Duck.
  7. So that's a drop of about $5.5M if the reports of current revenue being $30M is accurate. That's an easy offer to walk away from. If the Ducks join the B1G or SEC, they're going to get north of $65M so there is literally no reason to even consider that offer.
  8. I guess you can read that one of two ways...I took it as a compliment regarding the talent that Oregon has...basically saying the Ducks are built like a top tier SEC team.
  9. Thanks for sharing this. Good discussion with excellent points made. Cal Beck's point about the meritocracy was spot on and I agree that Utah has built a heck of a program through hard work and player development. I also agree that Utah would immediately compete with the top teams in any of the major conferences.
  10. I'm too lazy at the moment to look this up, but I remember a few years back that UGA paid a few hundred thousand $$$ to back out of a game with Oregon. I think Tennessee was going to try to do the same but decided to take their beatings instead of write the checks. Of course that was then....now UGA is the heavy favorite when we finally meet.
  11. As far as UCLA goes, I think they will give some of the new revenue earnings to the UC system and I think larger strategic donations will be promised and made to political campaigns from UCLA alum in the near future. I've mentioned previously that I think Oregon intends to be patient and give time to ND to make their decision and subsequently wait for an invite to the B1G. Combining with the Big-12 to me is a last option...including after going independent. That conference is basically turning into a leftovers conference and Oregon is not a leftover.
  12. Its articles like that, that have me convinced journalists read forums to get a sense of the vibe the fans have for teams they're writing about. I don't remember the specifics, but I do remember a moment a few years back when Colin Cowherd mentioned something on his show that was talked about on a now defunct forum, and I remember thinking he must have read that from a thread. Anyways...the points in the article hit the nail on the head.
  13. Agree with everything except I would put Wisconsin and Penn St tied for 5th.
  14. Oregon needs to do everything it can to not get locked into any deal without getting to see what options are available with the B1G and SEC. If that means making unreasonable demands about revenue sharing, so be it. The Pac is trying to lock in a deal similar to what the ACC did. Not because it's a good deal, but because it all but guarantees no more defections for the next decade. Oregon has value and although certain media outlets have tried to portray a different story, I remember someone just posted an article on here a few days/weeks ago showing that they rank 7 nationally for TV audience.
  15. I think this year USC's depth will fail them. They will be rough around the edges weeks 1-3 and could drop one to either Stanford or Fresno St. Around week 4 through week 8 they should hit their stride. Could still lose a couple games in there to OSU and/or Utah. Week 9-12 I think they lose two games. ND because they will just be better but their depth will make it seem more lopsided than it would if the game were played 6 weeks earlier. But the other loss will be UCLA and only because they will run out of quality players to put on the field. My prediction is they will be healthy for their bowl game and finish the season 9-4 or 8-5. Next year is when they will see real improvement.
  16. I'm sure that by the end of the season there will be players not named and that we aren't familiar with, that will be first team All-SEC. Although Bama is loaded, I think Georgia still has a very good chance to win the SEC. They are loaded across the board and they have an experienced QB that will be playing with house money this year.
  17. I know this isn't going to be a popular opinion but I think SC will do well in the B1G. LR will have 2 complete recruiting classes under his belt, not to mention the transfer portal pickups so the roster will be loaded. He's a great offensive coach so if he can recreate what he had in OU on that side of the ball and couple it with just an average defense, SC will be in the hunt immediately for a B1G championship. All that said, I wish nothing but the worst for SC...
  18. This is perfectly stated with one amendment...I would add SEC between B1G and PAC. I think with DL and his connections there in SEC country coupled with Oregon's national brand, I think he could really make end-roads recruiting. Players from that region would have an option to play against the best competition every year but not be practicing in the extreme heat and humidity every day. If Oregon is competitive in the conference, which I believe they would immediately be, they would have a legit shot to reach the CFP every year without having to run the table.
  19. Looks like the tickets were bought up by the major resale vendors or other folks looking to make money by reselling them at inflated prices.
  20. He clearly understands there is money to be made but it sounds like although it's a priority, it isn't the only or top priority. His vibe reminds me of MM, a kind human being with a ruthless drive to win.
  21. Oregon needs to stay out of any long-term deals tied to the PAC or any other conference not named the B1G/SEC. Be patient and play the waiting game unless either the B1G or SEC extend an invite.
  22. I love and share his enthusiasm for DL but I'm pretty confident that the next head coach of Bama is currently coaching at Clemson. Dabo played at Bama and has already slayed the dragon impressively...beat the brakes off them in the natty a few years ago. As far as DL goes, I get the sense he wants to build his own legacy and sees Oregon as the perfect place to do it. I think the conference realignment may impact that, but if we end up in the B1G or a situation where annual revenue and exposure are in the same ballpark, I think he could be the guy to make it happen.
  23. Wow...after reading this my guess is that USC and UCLA were wanting the PAC to get onboard with the 12 team playoff but inexplicably enough lower tier programs wanted to keep the status quo and tanked the deal. I suddenly view this whole situation differently. This looks like a situation where decisions have consequences and we are now living those unfortunate consequences. My guess is any school that was a part of tanking the 12 team playoff will be left out of a major conference going forward and will rarely if ever sniff the new playoff setup....hopefully the UO leadership wasn't a part of that group.
  24. I think this is a worst case scenario and only an option if the B1G doesn't take Oregon. This deal would be to salvage money lost with USC/UCLA leaving whereas joining the B1G should be an increase in revenue annually. Oregon needs to go to the B1G or SEC (not likely) to remain top tier. Anything else ends the dream of a natty. Oregon would suddenly becomes a stepping stone program for DL and any other coaches on his staff and recruiting will take a major hit almost immediately.
  25. I would rather see Virginia vs UNC since I live fairly close to the UVA campus. As far as Stanford goes, them over UW makes a lot of sense just based on Stanford being Stanford, but I wonder if PK is also lobbying for Stanford over UW since he is an alum there as well...
