  1. It’s not just the portal. It’s the portal and NIL. The portal originally was mostly loaded with players, who either had not lived up to expectations, or were not getting the playing time they had expected. Now NIL money has gotten so attractive that players who are perfectly happy where they are, are entering the portal to shop around for more cash. The game has changed…..and something needs to be done. But what? Hell if I know. (Jon……jump in any time)
  2. It could possibly be Michigan State writing a bigger check than the Ducks.
  3. DeBoer will be set for life with his new contract, even if he flames out at Alabama. I don’t know what he was making at UDUB, but they hired him from Fresno State, so it obviously paled in comparison to what he is guaranteed with his new deal. Good move for him.
  4. Fellow Cal Bear here…….you must have been waaaaay off the grid. You missed all the fun, and all the “will he or won’t he” chatter. I just feel relieved that Dan is sticking around. But I’m not naive, and realize that some day he will move on……they all eventually go. So, let’s just enjoy the ride while it lasts.
  5. James Hunter: No smoke without fire. He’s gone.
  6. Huskies could not run the ball, which emboldened the Michigan line to come after Penix, who never once looked comfortable in the pocket and by the end of the game was hurting so badly he probably should not have been on the field. Really, it was line play on both sides of the ball that doomed the Huskies.
  7. Nix is one of the best to ever wear a Duck uniform. That’s good enough.
  8. The Athletic has a NCAAF site where you can indicate Oregon as a team to follow, if you are a subscriber.
  9. OKLAHOMA dominated on offense, but it’s difficult to win when you turn it over…….. 6 times!
  10. Wait a couple of days and they’ll plummet even more.
  11. Ah……Nat King Cole said it best.
  12. It’s a new world, and I don’t see it changing……for the better. I’ve sounded off before about the hypocrisy of the student athlete tag, and the ridiculousness of it has never been more apparent. Top players are looking for the best opportunity to make it to the LEAGUE, and maybe fatten up their bank account in the process. A college degree is not their main priority. And, yes, the revolving door of players coming and going is here to stay. This is the new landscape college of football. And as long as Oregon operates with integrity and within the rules, I will be pulling for the Ducks.
  13. Moga is a true dual threat QB. Would hate to lose him. A QB who can make or extend a play with his legs, like Nix and Gabriel, is invaluable. Does Moore have that ability?
  14. “Picking Shough over Purdy went against what we have always been” Not sure I understand that. If you’re saying the Ducks should have chosen Purdy over Shough, well of course you would be right……in hindsight. But keep in mind that the entire NFL overlooked Purdy, the very last pick in the draft. They missed on him, too. Purdy doesn’t have the strongest arm and he is not particularly fast, but he is probably more composed than most of the first round QB’s that were chosen before him. He does not get rattled. Purdy played 4 years at Iowa State. He was DEVELOPED there, and even though the NFL didn’t appreciate what that could mean in leading a team, it’s pretty clear his experience was key. I would love for the Ducks to get a QB and “develop” him, but I fear those days are gone. If you can keep the same starter for 2 years, you’re doing about as well as can be expected.
  15. I was upset when he chose to leave. He was very raw, talent wise, but his enthusiasm and hustle was unmatched. And he was always first off the bench to congratulate a teammate after making a good play. I’m not sure why he left, but a team can always use a player like that, even in a limited role.
  16. I see Huskies at No. 2 and Oregon No. 8? Maybe I’m seeing a different MSN poll.
  17. Agreed. Developing QB’s is likely a thing of the past, especially among those schools whose collectives have the necessary cash to spread around.
  18. I am not renewing my season tickets, which seem to be going up in price every year, a trend that of course will continue. And then you’ve got required DAF contribution. I just no longer can justify the expense. When you also factor in the cost of travel - I live in Ashland - you’ve got gas, meals, and the expense of 2 nights hotel if you choose to make a weekend of it. And parking in the lot makes no sense, unless you want to spend 45 minutes or more jockeying to get out after the game. But after going to the Pac-12 championship game last week in Vegas, I decided to watch it on TV when I got home. While it was so much fun being there, I actually realized I missed a lot. On TV, you get great background info, replays galore, sideline views, injury reports (I didn’t pick up that Burch left and never returned), and so much more. Yes, I know, they are two entirely different experiences, and both enjoyable. I will be at the Ohio State game next season for sure and probably a couple more. But no more buying season tickets to watch cupcakes like Portland State and Hawaii visit Autzen. Can’t justify it.
  19. Gabriel or Moore? Gabriel for sure.
  20. Saban vs DeBoer won’t happen unless Alabama beats Michigan and Washington beats Texas.
  21. I know it's just a highlight reel, so we're not going to see any picks, or even incompletions, but this kid has decent wheels, throws a nice ball, and has great touch on intermediate and deep throws. Time to open the checkbook.
