  1. I think anyone who has run their own business struggles with the work/life balancing act. Nothing real newsworthy about that problem. The article makes me wonder if Kirby is posturing for a larger budget to hire additional staff. I will never say I feel sorry for a guy that is making millions of dollars per year. If you want to quit, go ahead. There is a long line of people waiting to take your job. Way too many households struggling just to keep food on the table to feel sorry for multi-millionaire coaches.
  2. Well, I guess we will see how much political clout UCLA’s boosters possess. Funny comment about the Political Science Professors. I remember one of my Economics professors declaring in class in 1980 that the Dow Jones Industrial Index would never rise above 2000 points. I remember thinking to myself that “never” seemed like a long time…lol
  3. Would have liked to see Devon get his shot at a medal in Eugene. Only two people in history have ever run that race faster. That is incredible. I know I will be rooting for him, even if he is an Eagle ; )
  4. The state of Oregon with all of it’s beauty and outdoor activities claims the lives of people both familiar, and unfamiliar with the various perils that the beauty possesses. A day that should have ended with friends discussing how much they enjoyed the days activities, ended tragically. The tragedy is enormous to anyone who knew Spencer Webb. He is part of the Duck family. For those that were with him, and witnessed this accident, I hope they can find peace given time.
  5. I suppose anything can happen. The PAC obviously needs to make moves to remain competitive financially. I guarantee that behind the scenes it is not quiet, Oregon’s athletic department, and key supporters are hard at work. I would not be a big proponent of just waiting around and hoping that Kliavkoff saves the PAC. However, at minimum I hope he can buy PAC members some time. Changes are going to happen, and Oregon will need to make decisions. I hope that when a decision is finally made that it is not solely based on money. Unfortunately, that may be unrealistic.
  6. Mike Baumgartner’s comment about “TV executives secretly calling the shots” is spot on. UCLA’s athletic department is over $100 million in the red. All UCLA’s administrators had to hear was the “siren's song” of the pot of gold from TV revenue that awaits them, and they quickly changed course and headed towards the siren’s island. I hope that both UCLA and USC ends up shipwrecked on the rocky shores of that island.
  7. This guy is entertaining. Very upbeat review on Dante Moore and the Ducks future.
  8. Remembering Oregon Ducks tight end Spencer Webb DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Never forgotten. Fans of the Oregon Ducks made sure of that after learning of Spencer Webb’s tragic passing on Wednesday.
  9. Oregon Football: New plans for Ducks indoor practice field take shape DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Some new renderings for Oregon’s indoor practice field have popped up. It’s going to be massive.
  10. Tragic accident. Been to those rockslides many times when I attended the University. The water is shallow near the rock slides, so I have to assume it was a head injury.
  11. Crazy part is that for a lot of games our starting QB would be sitting out the entire 4th quarter, and we would “slow down” our offense.
  12. Now that our lecture on how untraveled Duck fans, and alumni is over…..Faber College rocks, TOGA!!!!!!
  13. So many indications that he will be a good coach. He is young, brings energy, and is a student of the game. He was able to bring stability to this team immediately by helping save some top talent from leaving that felt abandoned by MC. Lanning brought in a solid coaching staff, many who have worked with him in the past. They made the decision that working with him as their boss was a solid career decision. Speaks loudly in my book. It is being reported that he has been communicating his vision to his staff and allowing them to do their job. He and his staff may very well be the best recruiters we have had at Oregon, and the team is having fun playing a game they love. He may very well be vastly underrated, only time will tell.
  14. The University of Oregon is a public research university. The U of O’s athletic department is self sufficient. It does not receive money from tuition or state operating funds that are provided to the university. The athletic department generates various sources of revenue separate from tuition, state operating funds, and grants. Last year total athletic department revenues were approximately $108 million, and the costs ran at at approximately the same. Therefore, costs associated with teaching and research are completely separate already.
  15. Unfortunately, Economics will dictate the next move. Oregon wants to compete on a national basis. To compete at that level requires money. Difficult decisions for what is in Oregon’s best interest going forward needs to be made. Any decision made will have people divided, and quite possibly angry. I don’t envy anyone that is involved with these decisions right now.
  16. Impressive resume. If he accepts the position there can’t be too many distance coaches that are much better at the job. I think It would be a nice gift to Phil Knight and his family to have Oregon dominate T&F. With that said, considering the type of support that Phil Knight has provided, I would love to see Oregon win a few National Championships in Football and B-ball as well.
  17. Justin Herbert has exploded onto the NFL scene. He is such a class act, and a great ambassador for the Oregon Ducks. The guy had three head coaches at Oregon, and could have easily bolted for the NFL after his junior year, but instead came back for his senior year. It is laughable that so many NFL talent analysts predicted that he would be a bust. He is looking more like a generational talent that has the opportunity to rewrite the record books.
  18. Congratulations Dante. Ducks are alive and well.
  19. Unfortunately, it is part of the new era, and this is our reality. Poor PAC 12 leadership led us to this situation, and we certainly can’t rely on it’s leadership to save us. The future health of sports at Oregon relies on our next move. Because of the work of Phil Knight, and other generous donors, we have a National presence that can’t be overlooked. However, the most important negotiating chip at the table when selling TV rights are these numbers being presented. Some traditional rivalries are going to be replaced with contrived rivalries that the networks will force feed fans. The new era now includes Universities, coaches, and players chasing the mighty dollar. It is a revolving door watching the coaches, and players switching teams. The game is quickly changing, and not for the better. Will fans stay tuned to their teams who are constantly losing the top players and coaches to the highest bidders? I doubt it.
  20. Huskies fans are pretentious. They generally tout themselves as conference champion favorites before every season. Then reality hits them right square in the nose. Oregon State fans pretty much hate on the Ducks, and for the most part we kind of hate them back. Personally, I NEVER have considered a bark gnawing rodent as a little brother.
  21. Might as well make it a package deal….Dante Moore, and include RB Richard Young. That would certainly grab some national attention. Huge recruits from both BIG and SEC territories. (So easy to spend other peoples money)
  22. NIL $$$ will end up a major deciding factor. The turmoil in the PAC is an issue, but the narrative that creates a vision of the Ducks future and commitment to winning a Championship has not changed. In the end, if the Ducks land Moore with a larger commitment of NIL $$$$, then that will be a big indicator that the Ducks are going all in for Lanning and his staff. This recruiting battle may be part of the elixir needed that will move the Ducks forward.
  23. The controlling factor is money. The landscape is changing quickly, and many people are worried, myself included, about where this ends. However, most players will not make their living in the NFL, or NBA, etc. Most need the educational opportunity that sports scholarships(NIL $$$$) provide. That will not change. Money decides whether you compete at the highest levels. Not sure that has really changed that much, but the amount of money involved to compete at the highest level is staggering. The money machine will change lives, for both the better, and worse. The means that “educational” institutions use to pursue that money, whether it is voluntary, or forced upon them, is what Oregon and other PAC 10 members are faced with at the moment. Our biggest issue is the fact that Oregon wants to compete at the highest levels. With that said, fans will have to endure the process whether we like it, or not. That’s the part that really stinks.
