  1. We have great fans. Those kids are going to be loud. It isn’t a tennis match…lol
  2. Herbert elevated Oregon football despite the numerous challenges he faced. Herbert at QB in Dillingham’s offense with our current roster of talented receivers and RBs….that would be fun to watch. Ty Thompson, I hope you get your shot at elevating Oregon football.
  3. Riley’s contract and housing costs may start to seem overpriced if he starts losing these types of recruits. This is all about creating a bidding war for this kid’s potential.
  4. I would love to see Justin Flowe play hard and stay healthy for the entire season. I am sure that dealing with injuries in back to back years creates angst for him. Especially for a player everyone expects to excel at this level. I hope that he can fully test his knee and foot during the fall practices, and is a full go for the Georgia game. Watching Flowe and Sewell playing at an elite level together would be just a beautiful thing to see on Saturdays.
  5. A lot of uncertainty about the future impact that NIL $$$$ will have on college sports. I wonder how long donors will throw millions of dollars at a team and still not be able to hoist the big trophy at the end of the season? NIL hasn’t really changed the number of teams with a legit shot at winning the CFP. Before NIL there were maybe 5 to 6 teams with a legit shot, after NIL there are 5 to 6 teams with that same legit shot. It is not news that Oregon State will not win the CFP this year. TV rights revenues generated by the conferences will determine the long term fate of what happens to many college sports. Oregon and Oregon State could very well both be impacted negatively. We may very well see colleges being forced to eliminate some sports because of the economics of fielding men’s and women’s sports (title IX).
  6. Fun stuff. The guys who have played before are wearing sweatshirts on a warm summer day. Nothing better than getting a bunch of alpha guys together for a few rounds of capture the flag.
  7. This is BO Nix’s opportunity to step up and perhaps grab some needed attention from NFL scouts. His play, coupled with how well our OL plays, will probably determine whether Oregon is in the game in the 4th quarter. I can say that I am not overly optimistic about Nix, but am willing to be pleasantly surprised.
  8. Play fast, and score points. Offense creates excitement with fans and captures the attention of the casual observer who happens to tune in to watch. All the team can control is how they approach each practice and game. These kids and coaches carry the torch, but ultimately they will not decide the fate of the PAC 10. The shifting sands of the conference landscape is out of their control. Oregon will be relevant. A narrative will be established about the direction that the University is taking with regards to it’s future. However, it is still too early to give definitive answers to where they will be in 5 years.
  9. This stuff gives me a headache. The pursuit of TV revenue is definitely changing the landscape of collegiate sports. The PAC 12 is paying the price of poor leadership within the Conference. Highly educated chancellors/presidents hired a commissioner that lined his pockets with gold, and ultimately made such poor business decisions that the conference may not survive. In the business sense of things, this conference deserved so much better. Shameful.
  10. I think he is holding 7, 2 unsuited.
  11. I think anyone who has run their own business struggles with the work/life balancing act. Nothing real newsworthy about that problem. The article makes me wonder if Kirby is posturing for a larger budget to hire additional staff. I will never say I feel sorry for a guy that is making millions of dollars per year. If you want to quit, go ahead. There is a long line of people waiting to take your job. Way too many households struggling just to keep food on the table to feel sorry for multi-millionaire coaches.
  12. Well, I guess we will see how much political clout UCLA’s boosters possess. Funny comment about the Political Science Professors. I remember one of my Economics professors declaring in class in 1980 that the Dow Jones Industrial Index would never rise above 2000 points. I remember thinking to myself that “never” seemed like a long time…lol
  13. Would have liked to see Devon get his shot at a medal in Eugene. Only two people in history have ever run that race faster. That is incredible. I know I will be rooting for him, even if he is an Eagle ; )
  14. The state of Oregon with all of it’s beauty and outdoor activities claims the lives of people both familiar, and unfamiliar with the various perils that the beauty possesses. A day that should have ended with friends discussing how much they enjoyed the days activities, ended tragically. The tragedy is enormous to anyone who knew Spencer Webb. He is part of the Duck family. For those that were with him, and witnessed this accident, I hope they can find peace given time.
  15. I suppose anything can happen. The PAC obviously needs to make moves to remain competitive financially. I guarantee that behind the scenes it is not quiet, Oregon’s athletic department, and key supporters are hard at work. I would not be a big proponent of just waiting around and hoping that Kliavkoff saves the PAC. However, at minimum I hope he can buy PAC members some time. Changes are going to happen, and Oregon will need to make decisions. I hope that when a decision is finally made that it is not solely based on money. Unfortunately, that may be unrealistic.
  16. Mike Baumgartner’s comment about “TV executives secretly calling the shots” is spot on. UCLA’s athletic department is over $100 million in the red. All UCLA’s administrators had to hear was the “siren's song” of the pot of gold from TV revenue that awaits them, and they quickly changed course and headed towards the siren’s island. I hope that both UCLA and USC ends up shipwrecked on the rocky shores of that island.
  17. This guy is entertaining. Very upbeat review on Dante Moore and the Ducks future.

  18. Remembering Oregon Ducks tight end Spencer Webb DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Never forgotten. Fans of the Oregon Ducks made sure of that after learning of Spencer Webb’s tragic passing on Wednesday.
  19. Oregon Football: New plans for Ducks indoor practice field take shape DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Some new renderings for Oregon’s indoor practice field have popped up. It’s going to be massive.
  20. Tragic accident. Been to those rockslides many times when I attended the University. The water is shallow near the rock slides, so I have to assume it was a head injury.
  21. Crazy part is that for a lot of games our starting QB would be sitting out the entire 4th quarter, and we would “slow down” our offense.
  22. Now that our lecture on how untraveled Duck fans, and alumni is over…..Faber College rocks, TOGA!!!!!!
  23. So many indications that he will be a good coach. He is young, brings energy, and is a student of the game. He was able to bring stability to this team immediately by helping save some top talent from leaving that felt abandoned by MC. Lanning brought in a solid coaching staff, many who have worked with him in the past. They made the decision that working with him as their boss was a solid career decision. Speaks loudly in my book. It is being reported that he has been communicating his vision to his staff and allowing them to do their job. He and his staff may very well be the best recruiters we have had at Oregon, and the team is having fun playing a game they love. He may very well be vastly underrated, only time will tell.
  24. The University of Oregon is a public research university. The U of O’s athletic department is self sufficient. It does not receive money from tuition or state operating funds that are provided to the university. The athletic department generates various sources of revenue separate from tuition, state operating funds, and grants. Last year total athletic department revenues were approximately $108 million, and the costs ran at at approximately the same. Therefore, costs associated with teaching and research are completely separate already.
  25. Unfortunately, Economics will dictate the next move. Oregon wants to compete on a national basis. To compete at that level requires money. Difficult decisions for what is in Oregon’s best interest going forward needs to be made. Any decision made will have people divided, and quite possibly angry. I don’t envy anyone that is involved with these decisions right now.
