  1. I have to admit that watching plays where DB’s are bouncing off of our linemen that are lead blocking downfield is quite enjoyable. This could definitely be one of those plays. Thanks for the analysis, Coach.
  2. Seems like he has a handle on recruiting both players and coaches. DL may not have years of experience under his belt, but he certainly has the “it” factor. While I don’t know exactly what “it “ is, his message resonates well with both players and coaches. This is going to be fun to watch what the coaches can do with this group of players.
  3. The UCLA athletic department was operating deep in the red. That was probably the catalyst which prompted them to leave for “greener pastures”. Therefore, no surprise that a college the size of WSU is having financial troubles competing in the PAC. The last amount that I recall Oregon was spending on athletics was over $100 million for the year. Being faced with a media rights negotiation that some people hope lands in the area of $30 million, being an Athletic Director is not for the faint of heart.
  4. We all know that our season is based upon how far Bo can take this team. The problem is that the more snaps that Bo takes, the more opportunities there are for an injury. We should definitely rest Bo when games are no longer in doubt. At that point the backup QBs should be treated fairly, if Ty demonstrates to the coaches that he is still the #2 QB option, then he should play. We all have seen Ty make simple plays look very difficult. However, I have to trust the coaches judgement on who plays, and when. Btw…most plays show Novosad throwing to the first receiver he locks on to at the start of the play. That is not always an option at our level, but would also like to see him play.
  5. Student athletes have tried to unionize before, and they needed to be classified as employees. This opens the door.
  6. Perhaps the demise of the PAC is inevitable after losing the LA media market. I certainly don’t know. TV contracts pay the bills, and Oregon will need to do what is best for them for the long haul. The wait and see game is full of rumors, and unless you have a seat at the negotiating table, it is difficult to have a clear picture of the future. Oregon has contacts in sports and media, either directly, or indirectly (Phil Knight, and other key people). I would be more worried if I was a fan of some of the other colleges in the PAC trying to continue to compete at a high level.
  7. It is exciting to have an offense that features a passing attack that uses all levels of the field. Explosion plays that gain chunk yards electrifies the Autzen experience. That type of offense is helpful to the coaches in their recruiting efforts to attract talented QBs and receivers. Our young coaching staff is already recruiting at a higher level than i expected. Thanks in part, to the committed NIL assistance from Division Street. Today’s recruiting environment requires that type of assistance. I also think the uptick in talent in the receiver room bodes well for this year, and for the future. It gets the attention of future top QB recruits, and top QBs get the attention of future talented receivers. The future looks bright.
  8. I think the team does have a lot of offensive talent. However, our season really relies on Bo Nix playing at a high level, and staying healthy. The team has depth at certain positions, but not all of them. The PAC 12 Champion will need to navigate through a minefield of talented QBs. It may be an offensive shootout for some games. If our defense shows respectable improvement, then our offense most certainly benefits. I do know that a fair amount of my angst can be reduced if our offense doesn’t feel the need to go on 4th down in our end of the field quite as often.
  9. After watching his highlights, I like the fact that he scores a TD without barking into some defensive guys face, or showboating. He celebrates with his team and moves on. Not a fan of the receivers that feel the need to flex, or chirp at the defensive backs.
  10. Collusion definition… when entities or individuals work together to influence a market for their own advantage. Acts of collusion could include price fixing, or sharing insider information. Perhaps we could also add the media mutts that report unsubstantiated rumors for personal favors, or gain. Antitrust lawsuits are real…my opinion…the consumer ends up paying the attorneys fees and any damages awarded.
  11. His son will be playing for West Linn, which are the defending state champions. An article that I came across states that he is a very good athlete, and may actually start his freshman year. Alex Molden, his father, can give him sound advice. Alex had a devastating injury while playing at Oregon, and worked his way back onto the football field. He then performed well enough to be selected in the NFL draft. I don’t know Alex, but I am familiar with people that know his son. This offer may not be too far-fetched at all.
  12. About 10 minute mark they are looking at helmets…if nothing else it will give you some ideas.
  13. Always learn a lot from your play diagrams and descriptions….thank you. Nix can reliably read a defense, go through progressions when receivers are covered, and be a legit run threat when necessary. Match that up with a solid run game, and RB’s that can also become an extra receiver, and potential oozes out of our offense. Stein inherits some very good players. Really excited to see what the players and this offense can accomplish.
  14. The season rests on Bo Nix’s shoulders. My biggest concern would be that Bo puts too much pressure on himself to manufacture wins. The guy can ball, but needs help from the defense this year to compete at an elite level. Our defense has talent. However, that talent needs to play better together. That is something that the players, and probably more importantly, the coaches need to focus on. Oregon has the potential to win every game. That potential will need to step onto the field every game and play solid football. If they can also improve every week, then good things could happen.
  15. Playing fast takes on a different meaning with a guy this fast. World class speed at CB sounds good to me. His bio on goducks.com says that he then ran the 200 in 20.40 later that same day. With that type of speed I would love to watch Roderick as one of our kick return guys.
  16. I guess if I did not like the assigned seats then I would request different seats. Had Blazer season tickets for years and when they moved into the Rose Garden/Moda Center the comparable seats in the transition from the Memorial Coliseum were laughable. Went from 20 rows off the floor at mid court to the top of the 300 level nose bleed section. Kept the season tickets, but called my ticket rep and upgraded the seats. Unfortunately, the seats cost much more, and the team got much worse…lol
  17. Too bad we can’t post the best parodies of fight songs, at least without some major editing. OSU, our pants are off to you….(not so sure why the pants are off, mooning them maybe?) the parody quickly becomes a little offensive…funny though.
  18. With the offense and defense split into two teams it is hard to come away with solid conclusions. It was a good practice game. A lot of our players got an opportunity to show the coaches what they will have to work with. I think the coaches saw solid play, and also areas that need attention, on both sides of the ball. I am probably more interested to see the impact this game has on our recruiting. Great weather and a solid crowd to cheer on our Ducks should create some excitement with all the recruits in Eugene his weekend.
  19. Offense equals excitement. I hope Stein’s offense creates problems for our defense. The biggest unknowns on offense revolve around the offensive line. Will they be able to gel together and overcome the loss of leadership from last years team. Going into last year, many thought the defense was going to be our strength. This year we are hoping to see big improvements from a squad that struggled at times. There are a lot of experienced players on the defensive side of the ball, with a good mix of players from the portal, and highly touted freshman recruits. Defensively, I want to see a defensive line that can stifle a running game, and collapse the pocket on passing downs. I think the defensive line is going to be the key to how successful we are this year. Offensively, I want to see them play fast and move the chains. I also am interested in seeing a passing attack that stretches the field. Should be fun to watch.
  20. From an academic standpoint college is certainly not for everyone, and high level D1 football attracts talented athletes, but many of them would never receive an academic scholarship. A high percentage of non student athletes leave college without a degree. There are a lot of people that can say they have attended college, much fewer that actually graduate. Student athletes are no different. They may also be academically challenged beyond their capabilities. Student athletes need even more discipline to maintain their grades than others, that is assuming that they have the goal of obtaining a degree. Some really don’t have that as their main goal. All the tutoring Oregon scholarship athletes have available does not guarantee success….Unless you are a highly coveted athlete…then that story might be somewhat different…
  21. I choose not to get too concerned about the transfer portal. Seems to me that if players are being “unfairly forced” to give up their scholarships by abusive coaching staffs it would become a newsworthy event, and we would find out about it through the media. Until then, I can’t get overly worried about the things that I personally choose not to follow too closely.
  22. Some players elevate their game during the playoffs. Dillon Brooks elevates his mouth. While I don’t want to see robot like answers to questions during interviews, I think you probably need to shut down LeBron a few times before before we take you seriously. Otherwise, you are just a bad actor on a traveling show.
  23. Traeshon Holdon was dismissed, then definitely reinstated, after more facts of the incident that he was involved in were released. This team is talented. Realistically, for the Ducks to contend for a playoff spot they will need to stay healthy, and have a defense that probably ranks in at least the top 20. It is going to be a QB shoot out to get to our conference championship. Contenders for the championship game will need defenses that are solid in pass protection, and can pressure the QB often.
  24. Perhaps Danny O’Neil. Performing poorly might be a bad characterization of his play, not sure I want to throw him under the bus. Initially he certainly wasn’t instilling fear to any opposing defenses. His QB rating started out relatively low, and by his third season he was definitely above average.
  25. I am very impressed with the recruiting efforts. Having these players in at the same time generates excitement and momentum. We won’t be able to get all these players, but all of them should go home impressed with Oregon. Telling recruits that the your goal is to build a National Championship team is rather hollow if you aren’t getting the top players to at least visit. Getting the top recruits to visit at the same time certainly makes it look like you are on the right track. I also applaud the former players that make time and take the effort to return to Oregon. As an Oregon Alum and huge fan of our Ducks, I love it. This can only help Dan Lanning and his staff recruit the future stars of Oregon. It also looks like the weather this Saturday will ALSO feature an appearance of the sun….
