  1. During the time that Bill Sconely was doing the Blazer broadcasts my mother was working for a radio station. She happened to be doing a remote broadcast from Winchester Bay one day. Bill just happened to be traveling on the Oregon coast at the time and was listening to her radio show. He stopped by, introduced himself, complimented her on her show, and then also agreed to briefly be a guest on her show. He was such a good ambassador for the Blazers. Classy guy. The Blazers were fortunate to have him.
  2. The proposal would require schools to share up to 50% of revenue with athletes that compete in programs that bring in twice as much in revenue as they spend on scholarships. $25,000 per year is the cap while they are in school. It is estimated that a USC football player that competes for 4 years and graduates could receive around $800,000 for their efforts. Money owed over and above the $25,000 cap would be required to be set aside for the athlete and paid after they graduate. The biggest concern is that a school is no longer able to afford scholarships for non-profitable sports. However, the proposal then penalizes the school for cutting scholarships. Interesting.
  3. Bucky is that guy that can play well at every level. His ability to change directions to allude tackles requires quick reactions, and body control. Tough to teach…you either have it, or you don’t. He averaged almost 11yards a carry his last two years of high school…seems he was probably underrated.
  4. Not often that the first defender that touches him brings him down. Fun RB to watch.
  5. In his first year DL exceeded my expectations. He quickly made me glad that MC left for Miami, and that Justin Wilcox stayed at Cal. His first season was marred by three losses, and two of the losses could have been wins. The losses show cased poor defensive play, and some questionable in-game decisions. Only time will tell if those problems are addressed. For me, there are enough positive vibes coming from the program to be very optimistic about the future. I am glad that DL is our coach and give him a solid passing grade for his first year.
  6. If they reach out and snag him from the portal do we have enough food to feed all these guys? Could be a race from a workout just to get a chair for a meal. Be a nice catch though.
  7. This is a guy that requires added attention from the QB and OL. The fact that he is on the field makes everyone else better. Our pass rush needed some extra horsepower and this looks like an impressive addition. DL and staff have the WOW factor going this year with recruiting. I think I better renew those seasons tickets. Welcome to Oregon Jordan Burch.
  8. Oregon needs to consistently recruit DL guys that can rival the level of our OL play last year. Recruiting a Haloti Ngata once is great, but to have that level of play consistently is what the SEC is doing. Maintaining the OL and DL at that level is what you are up against. Recruiting guys on the OL and DL that consistently move on to the NFL needs to be the norm. Those guys are the pillars that everything else stands on. Then all you need to do is recruit and coach at a high level for all the other positions. ; )
  9. Georgia might as well establish the scoring record for a National Championship game.
  10. TCU will need to play a perfect game to win. I think they already played their perfect game against Michigan, and I don’t expect another against Georgia. While I want to see a close game, I am expecting that Georgia covers the spread in this one.
  11. Probably more of a hybrid OLB/S they want for the 4-2-5 scheme. They need players with the speed of a safety for pass coverage, or blitz packages, and stout enough to stop the run.
  12. Tattoos are definitely a personal choice. In many cases the art work will make or break what that person is trying to achieve. However, this is a tattoo that is not on full display 24/7. A private tribute, and celebration of the road that has been traveled.
  13. I suppose we should remember the draft analysis on Justin Herbert from some of these geniuses.
  14. At his height and speed he is a match up nightmare for DBs whether he runs mid level, or deep routes. The safeties would definitely have to keep an eye on where he lines up. Bodes well for running plays to take a DB and S downfield. The guy is still pretty darn “fast” out of the blocks to clock 10.28 in the 100. If he has the athleticism to make adjustments on deep balls he definitely stretches the field for the offense.
  15. The 2022 roller coaster ride is over. The season began with the question of whether we are that bad, or is Georgia that good. The offensive scheme resurrected interest and excitement, which was sorely missed, at Autzen. The defense had it’s moments, they stifled Utah, and fell flat against the pups and rodents. Going forward, I am excited about possibilities. If I created a wish list I would want a few DL guys that require extra attention at all times. DT’s that need to be double teamed frees up other players. Add in DE’s with the quick twitch speed needed to set the edge, or upset the timing of passing plays, and now we are starting to cook. As always, I look forward to the next chapter.
  16. Definitely an interesting hire. Peeks my curiosity. Oregon has a good networking pipeline to find coaches. I can’t say that every hire has always panned out, but we have had pretty good luck hiring coaches on the rise. With the way DL started his coaching career, it doesn’t surprise me that he is giving an unknown an opportunity to be on staff. These type guys usually know they need to outwork the guy next to them to advance. There is a process to get new hires approved, I trust the process.
  17. I know what you are saying, but it didn’t take too long for Nix, Irving, Cota, and Whittington to not only add depth, but also make an impact in a brand new offense. If DL and staff add players with the same type of impact on the defensive side…could get very interesting much faster than expected.
  18. Lanning and his staff’s use of the transfer portal in such a short period of time is a game changer. Landing Burch, Williams, and a solid linebacker would replace/upgrade players who opted to enter the transfer portal. Top ten recruiting class, coupled with top ranked portal transfers…definitely a “Wow factor” happening here if they pull this off.
  19. There is a level of excitement that a live crowd generates that can’t be duplicated. The CFP has changed the Bowl landscape forever, and the interest level in attending non CFP games really comes down to location and matchup for me. With a12 team playoff, a team on a CFP run, with Conference Championship game, could easily cost in excess of $25,000 to $30,000/person to attend all games. Preferred seats/comfortable flights/nice accommodations. Assuming I had the energy and patience for that scenario(i really don’t) that would be a memorable experience if your team wins the last game ; )
  20. My crystal ball has Novasad leading the Ducks to the CFP, while Moore is mired in 7 to 8 win seasons with UCLA before he suddenly transfers back home to attend Michigan State for his junior year.
  21. Nice play. The LG can be a wrecking ball of sorts. Having an OL with a full head of steam lead blocking through the gap is not exactly what the DBs are hoping to see.
  22. The NCAA enforcing rules by sanctioning teams that tamper with players seems black and white. The problem is that the NIL landscape is brand new territory. Laws governing NIL start at the state level and the laws differ from state to state. If you sanction a team for tampering with players, and a very wealthy booster is allegedly involved, the evidence and understanding of the laws better be iron clad. I could easily see the NCAA being challenged by a lawsuit with a legal “dream team” representing that booster. Money started the problem, and unfortunately, a lot of money may very well end the problem.
  23. Shifting gears into a 4-2-5 defense created issues for the team this year. The defense has numbers inside the box, good for running plays, but it requires the OLB/S hybrid player. That position needs players with decent size, speed, and intelligence. The OLB/S hybrid position needs to be the field generals helping the defense make adjustments as the offense comes to the line of scrimmage. They should be some of our best athletes. Our defense will improve just by players being more familiar with running it next year. We are bringing in some defensive players that will have an impact, but it will take time for the new recruits to be game ready. When this defense finally has nasty DTs that require extra attention, outstanding edge players, OLB/S hybrid guys, tall and fast DBs, that’s when you start to have a “Georgia” type defense.
