  1. Interesting to note that both Oregon, and the Trojan boys, needed to make a splash with a coaching hire. Oregon, being Oregon, took a chance on a young, but highly regarded DC. While LA, being LA, over paid for a “known” head coach. We all should love that our hire looks like a great move, and now the LA boys seem stuck with a bad deal.
  2. Alabamy fans are preparing a list of who to hire next. Minnesota has a chance to really make this a good day.
  3. Doesn’t matter how they play. Personally, I hope they lose. It’s all on us to man up, and play a good team. We will definitely get to see where we stand as far as our chances to make the CFP and be a legit contender.
  4. It is college football. Top players move on to the NFL, and seniors graduate. In the past, replacing those players solely with inexperienced players would definitely impact the team’s success the following year. The transfer portal has smoothed that process out. Without the portal, we probably would not have been picked as a team with a legit shot at a title this year. With the portal, at least we have a shot.
  5. I think DG was completely caught off guard with the sketchy play of the OL in the first two games. He was kind of forced to resort to the short outlet passes, and never got fully in sync with his receivers. The Boise State game was annoying because the offense continued to sputter. When the offense started gaining momentum, they immediately gave it right back with untimely errors. Like you stated the team has played well in short bursts. There is talent on the team, will they play together as a team and become dominant? Only time will tell. Tonight, the team needs to show continued improvement. DG getting in sync with the playbook, and his receivers would be helpful. That would go a long ways to making me feel that all the preseason accolades were warranted.
  6. T Ferg could definitely be a solid NFL guy. He can block, and catch a lot of the passes thrown his way. Getting drafted by a team with a good QB, and solid OL, would definitely jump start a potential career.
  7. I always felt the phrase defined individuals, and their connection to the University. Whether a player, student, or fan. So in my opinion, the individual determines whether they are a Duck. Is every person that is a fan, or attended the University truly a Duck…nope. But, we will adopt a few that deserve it.
  8. I like the uniform. Cancer research needs all of our help. Too many of us have been impacted with the loss of family and friends. The advances they make increases the survivor rates each and every year. I have six years of chemo treatments in the rear view mirror, and had the opportunity to test a new treatment during that time. Nothing to lose, and everything to gain. In the words of Jim Valvano….“ Don’t give up, don’t ever give up.”
  9. With the poor play of the OL in the first two games, we are still 4 - 0 as projected. The offense has put together some nice drives over the last few games. What seems to be missing is the quick strike TD capability of the past. I think I expected a better pass offense. Seems to be a lot of possession type pass plays that gain 5 to 10 yards, instead of chunk yardage. There are receivers open downfield, DG seems to take a lot to the underneath routes. Overall, it could be worse, but also, it could have been better. I think MSU is a perfect game this week for the Ducks. Get to 5 -0 and take on one of the perceived teams that has a legit shot at the title. Go Ducks!!!
  10. That is a scary collision. TFerg was knocked out cold. My understanding of the rule is that a vulnerable receiver in the air going for the ball cannot by lambasted in the head or neck area. The hit does not have to be with the crown of the helmet. Not a “good” no call.
  11. It is entirely up to Phil Knight to give Eugene a few hundred million(they own the airport). By the way, the notion that Nike has unlimited resources is far from true. They have major internal problems at the moment. Their stock is down 50% over the last few years, they just laid off 10% of their workforce, and recently fired the CEO. Nike’s resources are controlled by the Board of Directors/shareholders. The reality is that the Corporation is not the philanthropist, Phil Knight is the philanthropist. Not castigating, just a reality check.
  12. These are all young men just out of high school. Just like average college students some will have no problem venturing off to a different part of the country, and some are immediately “ homesick” being away from friends and family. The “ family” atmosphere with Duck football is an important part of their recruiting. Families need to “buy into” the idea of letting their son move to Eugene. DL and staff create an attractive environment for players that have NFL aspirations. Since only a small percentage move on to the NFL, the scholastic support that student athletes receive at U of O is also attractive to both students and families. I don’t believe that travel is as big of an obstacle for as many families as it was 20 years ago, or even 5 years.
  13. To be fair…Statistically, he did use a 2 to 1 ratio, and you changed it to a 5 to 1 ratio.
  14. Commitment is a common step that precedes NIL bidding wars for top players. Allows fans to project future team success, at least for a month or two.
  15. These kids will run the gamut of being responsible with NIL funds to help set up their future, to squandering monies amongst their posse, and wonder what happened to all their friends when the funds run out. Potential lawsuits definitely deter any organization that tries to provide oversight. Sports fans want the sports they love to be sheltered from disputes over money that changes the game. Way too late for that…conference realignment, player disputes, and all other problems that the pursuit of money creates are here to stay.
  16. I-5 south traffic from PDX to Eugene on any Friday afternoon is bad…add game day traffic…and it will be a parking lot. Late games are definitely for TV viewers. I travel from PDX for games. Late kick offs are fine, but a steady diet of late games gets old fast if you have to travel.
  17. Need healthy bodies. Less experienced players will need to fill gaps. Not sure what the injury entails, but even a meniscus tear can weaken ligaments in the knee, which makes it susceptible to further injury.
  18. Where did I leave my notes from Econ Class?
  19. I think an injury and weight issues kept him sidelined last year. He arrived weighing 225, and he has shed weight. Not sure about his current status, but everyone wants to play, be good to see if his 5* rating is legit at this level.
  20. No doubt that the offense has receiving talent. Unfortunately, that talent could not been fully utilized because of other issues. The next two games DG needs a clean pocket to finally get in sync with them. I would love to get tape that shows DG making throws to all areas of the field. Need opponents to respect those capabilities. I will be optimistic that UCLA, and MSU, are the perfect games for the team to continue an upward trajectory.
  21. USC. united state conference. Required to have state in your college name.
  22. Perhaps USC should blame their inability to stop a 90 yard game winning drive with a few minutes left on the clock, by a team that had virtually no passing game. In the end, the refs may have won a close game against USC. I loved it.
  23. They can barely fill their stadium. While that is not a prerequisite to a qualifying berth, you still need alumni support to be competitive on the national stage. Perhaps they can qualify if every bounce of the ball goes there way in the new PAC, but as stated earlier, they would just be a lower seed against a top team. The realignment carousel is still spinning, and money wise the new PAC will be competing for media dollars with the big boy conferences. Outlook for a media contract that pays all the bills is going to be a stretch.
  24. Palouse
  25. The Huskers “couged” it.
