  1. Cleats are cool. They probably chose black pants and socks for the contrast it will provide on TV when the shoes change color. Nike is marketing their goods. I certainly can’t complain. Seems to have worked out for us so far.
  2. Forums can be obnoxious because of trolls. The internet is like the fence…everyone is pretty brave when protected by that fence. All bark, no bite, or perhaps in a forum, no substance. Thanks to all that keep the barking at a minimum here.
  3. Moving the football by connecting on the long pass is always exciting. Many pass plays have routes that send at least one receiver downfield to “ stretch” the field. Since the deep receiver occupies DBs, other receivers have more space in which to work. Some defensive play calls allow a QB the time to throw downfield, and some don’t. Nix is a dangerous QB because he is smart, an accurate passer, and a real threat to run on a broken pass play. Short, or long passes? I say allow him to take what the defense gives, and just score points.
  4. Been to hundreds of pro basketball games. Most of the atmosphere during timeouts and between periods is very contrived at those games. While some of the results can be entertaining…two guys fighting over a cheap tee shirt that is tossed into the crowd…most of it didn’t really add to my fan experience. Personally, I love attending sporting events for the spontaneous reactions from the crowd to what is actually happening on the field, or court.
  5. PSU was never a threat, and the coaches were aware of that…this seems like it was a great opportunity to plug in some players they wanted to reward for their efforts in practice. Solid move if they tell recruits that if they prove in practice that they can play, then they are willing to get them into games. Plus, the players gain valuable experience for the long season ahead. Btw…I love the way Boettcher plays. Seems like he is around that football a lot, and he far exceeds my expectations. I am rooting for the guy. My guess, barring injuries, is that the starting lineup changes as the competition level ramps up.
  6. After a big play they sign a shoe designed for this purpose, then pose with a Duck Scepter. At the end of year they auction the signed shoe off for charity. Why not, Seems fine to me. I suppose if there were only one shoe to auction off this year, then that would be really lame.
  7. I was glad to see that Nix never ran the ball. Future opponents will definitely be forced to account for his mobility and ability to read defenses in plays when an RPO play is called. Smart QB with a good arm and a big threat to run…dangerous!! Ty played solid with the limited snaps he was able to take, and we all are glad he now looks to be a capable QB. He does need to learn to slide to avoid big contact when he decides to run. I cringed when I saw him lower his shoulder to take on a defensive back on one of his runs. Expectations are high and if this team continues to improve they very well may be in the spotlight late in the season.
  8. Partly because it was obvious that PSU was trying to get out of Autzen as quickly as possible. They ran the ball on normal passing downs once they were down by a few touch downs. PSU was 8 of 20 passing. While I am not completely sold on our DC, I think this years defense will improve.
  9. Rivalries are much more engaging with a some hating on the other team and it’s fans. Trojan boys and the puppies will be ready made rivalries for us in the BIG. Many fans today are not old enough to remember when usc was dominate. The media definitely leans towards them because of potential households their advertisers can reach. Oregon winning in the BIG will take our recruiting to the next level. But, any year we can beat both the puppies and the the Trojan boys will be very satisfying to me.
  10. DL was just keeping it real. The last time they won a Bowl game was in 2004. Many years before they joined the PAC. Their 9 total wins over the last 3 seasons is rather dismal. However, the buffalo have been the best team in the state of Colorado. So, at least they have bragging rights within the state.
  11. I think when i see purple, or orange running onto the field, it is more of an eww, than a boo.
  12. The Beavers problems are not marketing. Beavers are in trouble. The Reser stadium +$160 million project required $45 million in bond debt. They projected that the stadium would generate an additional $5 million in revenues…before the PAC 12 imploded….. They need $2.5 million in annual payments over 35 years to service that debt. That number really isn’t that daunting. However, the Beavers athletic budget still has a $33 million revenue deficit due to the COVID pandemic that needs attention. They also will probably receive a future sport media package substantially less than anticipated. Well, let’s just say that their athletic departments ability to financially sustain what they have in place gets very blurry. You can blame the Ducks, but that doesn’t pay your bills.
  13. I 100% agree with his take on the billboards. Never thought it was marketing Bo strictly for a Heisman trophy. I have always thought this type of marketing is bigger than that. It gets attention on sports/football social media, and in the end, it gets future recruits and their parents thinking about Oregon.
  14. Another example of how Geoff really doesn't get it. Dwight James…ughhh Personally, I love the Billboards. I am 100% sure that the marketing brain trust at Oregon knows more about how to brand a team than grumpy Dwight and Geoff.
  15. Sage advice from Coach Prime? I have to wonder about his ego when coveted recruits opt to go elsewhere. A guy like him may not be able to deal with that type of rejection for very long. We will see how hard he stays in that fight.
  16. Mismanagement of the PAC 12 led to its demise. It is an unfortunate turn of events for OSU. Oregon was forced into this position simply because of the economics of the move. Unfortunately, the bonds used to pay for the renovation of Reser Stadium may not be paid by revenues from OSU athletics. They may very well default and nobody is a winner if that happens. Both Duck and Rodent fans will end up paying for the default out of the general fund in Oregon….ughhh
  17. Well…it all comes down to economics. Oregon has to keep an eye on revenues just to maintain the world class facilities that have been donated to the University. Sad, but true. We replace rival OSU rodent with tOSU corn nut.
  18. While we might be dissatisfied with current numbers, this is the future of sports entertainment. Any iPhone, iPad, computer, or smart TV is a viewing platform. I can watch a game anywhere that I have a Wi-Fi signal. Apple TV revenues were approximately $1.5 billion in 2022. That represents just 2% of their service revenues annually (+$60 billion total service revenue). Analysts project Apple TV’s revenues will grow to $2.2 billion in 2023. An increase of 46%. The future looks bright. The new players in the sports entertainment market have very deep pockets and eventually will own a much larger inventory of that market. We just happen to be one of the first conferences involved.
  19. He is a beast. Are guys his size supposed to be that fast? What a great addition to the defense. QB’s will definitely want to know where he is lined up. Our players really praised his abilities during the spring practice sessions. Can’t wait to watch him play.
  20. DeBoer is a solid coach. I can’t deny that. However, without solid recruiting, DeBoer’s success with the pups will become very similar to Chip Kelly’s success during his stint at UCLA. Good coaching gets you the job, solid recruiting lets you keep it.
  21. Unfortunately, I am unable to attend. Out of the country for the Cal and Troy boy games this year.
  22. Prime time will always talk, but can he walk at this level? Any pressure at Colorado comes from the media circus that surrounds the coach which gives him a national podium for his sound bites. In reality, the only pressure at Colorado will be winning enough games to keep the media interested. The time for his team to walk the walk is coming soon enough.
  23. A young coach that is willing to work hard, wants to learn from others, and teach lessons about the game of football to his guys. Kind of sounds like Dan Lanning wants to surround himself with people like himself. Our “young coaching staff”seems to have a tall ceiling.
  24. My guess would be that their career paths were not really on an upward trajectory, if that is true.
