  1. Besides playing an abnormal amount of late games, the PAC 12 also covers the most diverse geographical footprint of any conference. Pac teams could be playing in desert heat, snow, rain, high winds, and my eyes are burning smog all in the same weekend. Just another reason it is difficult to go undefeated.
  2. Lincoln Riley hasn’t demonstrated anything to me beyond attracting good college QB’s. Seems to me that Oklahoma is already better without him as a head coach. Interestingly, Oklahoma’s coach Venables is a defensive guy as well.
  3. If I bring a grill I am all about simple. Since I have to clean up afterwards. Burgers, brats, chips w/dip, with all the proper fixings. For the warm September games, I used to bring melon wrapped in prosciutto, and a balsamic glaze for a kind of dessert, but i am old and lazy now. So, now I just bring a bowl of Halloween type candy for the people with a sweet tooth. It all disappears really fast, and nobody leaves hungry.
  4. After digesting the questions regarding play choice, I really would have thought a defensive coach would score whenever, and however, possible. Then trust the defense to do their job. Defense played an outstanding game, the coach trusts Nix which I can understand, but should trust his defense as well. Young $@$# coach that is learning the hard way.
  5. As fans we get anxious about these types of games. What do you think the players going through? What a total rush to run out onto that field tomorrow. Makes me want to put on the pads…as long as I don’t get hit by one of these guys…lol Let’s go Ducks!!!!
  6. I like the “culture” that DL is building at Oregon. Emphasizing “Oregon” standards and mapping out a mental approach to growing as an individual and team. When reading the article talking about the 90% mental vs. 10% physical approach to winning football games. I immediately thought about how Cristobal preaches the physical part of the game. Which is really the bull in the china shop mentality. His emphasis on “physicality”, lacks attention to the mental side of winning games. Which he demonstrated so well with his latest coaching disaster. A mistake that most would think would only happen one time in a career. Amusingly, we saw it happen again. Only this time to a team that paid a large amount of money to bring “their guy” to Miami. Many of their fans already want a new coach Thanks for that $8 million buyout Miami. Priceless.
  7. Anthony has some serious hair. I thought I had long hair when I was in high school. It was about 6 inches past shoulder length. I would never have been close to him on the track, or hair length. It will be fun to watch him compete. Welcome to Track Town USA.
  8. Can’t say that I have too many UDum fans in my list of contacts. Early 80’s they traveled in droves to Autzen. They were obnoxious visitors. Acted like they would never lose another game. Then Don James got caught cheating and resigned over the sanctions the PAC 10 assessed his team. Ha ha ha ha…. I thoroughly enjoyed watching their decline which led to the ultimate 0 - 12 season of futility. Truly a heartwarming story.
  9. With eyes on future years, Oregon will definitely create problems for teams. If the architecture of our football team stays similar, with solid QB’s, receivers, and RBs, that run an uptempo style of play, they will be a tough opponent for any defense to handle. With recruiting, it looks like there could be 5 to 6 teams that consistently bring in the depth necessary to compete at the highest levels. I am actually optimistic that our recruiting improves once we have completed the move. I believe more potential recruits will be able to watch the Ducks play. It will be interesting to see this move unfold. Bring on the BIG.
  10. Through all trials and tribulations, I bleed green and yellow. While I don’t like to see the Ducks lose, it is just a college football game. It can break your heart, but there are too many other things that we all deal with that are far worse. With the turnover we have seen at HC, DL has reinvigorated a program that could have become a dumpster fire. How many teams take a dive with the type of coaching turnover we have seen. I tip my cap to the man.
  11. This series is well done. Worth watching.
  12. Thanks Coach. Bucky is such a good RB for this type of play. The slight misdirection can get an overly aggressive LB out of position. Bucky’s agility and vision take over from there, as he seems to only need a nanosecond to find the gap to run through. If the LB is even slightly out of position, not many arm tackles are going to bring him down, and if he gets by the LBs, as shown….big yardage.
  13. Oregon has also been one of the most talked about teams on sports media in the past. In the process of getting to the CFP, Oregon doesn’t need media accolades, it needs to take care of business each week. My feeling is that the media has a wait and see attitude to see if the PAC 12 teams beat up on each other. Because of the talented teams it will be very hard to go unscathed. The irony is that one of the most talented conferences this year (PAC 12) may have nobody invited to the CFP.
  14. I always chuckle when I see this marketing campaign. How much fun is it to see Bodacious on sports web page banners all season long. It gets Bo Nix, and Oregon Duck football recognized. How many football fans outside of Oregon will tune in to Duck football to see what the BoDacious hype is all about. Brilliant. Btw…Nix is a stud QB that represents the Ducks and ad campaign so very well. I wish him a great career going forward.
  15. Competing at a high level on a national basis is difficult at best. For example, college track and field has measurable standards that must be met to qualify for nationals. You don’t meet the standards, you simply do not compete at the championships. Standards for playing football on Saturdays also need to be met. However, at times, the standard for playing football may not mean that the best athletes are always on the field. Players need to compete and qualify within the structure of the team, and keep their emotions in check during the heat of battle. Not always as measurable as track and field standards.
  16. I am happily surprised that his teams offensive style of play brings back memories of past high scoring teams. I agree with others about the TEAM concepts. DL’s message about the importance of the team as a “family” resonates with players, potential recruits, and their families. The message that a cohesive family unit is stronger than the individual is nothing new, but is always a valuable lesson for young people. He genuinely wants his players to learn about each other beyond the football field, and sponsors various activities to make that happen. Whether he is inviting players to a backyard barbecue, or setting up fun non-football competitions for players and staff. The team activities build lasting memories and connections. They also provide a simple, but valuable, lesson for life.
  17. Not sure if it would be a sound football hire, but from a marketing perspective, the media coverage exposure and frenzy around the hire would go to an even higher level. Is that even possible?
  18. Dan Lanning has put his stamp of approval on the more wide open style of play and has brought excitement back to Autzen stadium. It went missing for awhile. There is a lot to like about the direction he is taking the team, and the home crowd is certainly responding. It is also easy to understand why top players want to come to Eugene. Play a fast paced style of football that is Bo-daciously fun to play and watch. Now, let’s go make kindling of that ugly Stanford tree.
  19. It is clear that Colorado has a long way to go to compete at the highest level. I have to think that other coaching staffs will review this film before playing Colorado. I know that I would not enjoy watching my son get pummeled like this week after week. Unless Colorado coaches do something different their QB will not last an entire season.
  20. Ducks take care of business. Entertaining recap.
  21. I think a team always has a chance with a good QB in any game that stays close at the end. The problem is keeping it a close game. I only see turnovers by the Ducks as the reason this stays a close game. Ducks take care of the ball and reality will set in for how much more Colorado needs to elevate their football program to compete at the highest levels.
  22. Cleats are cool. They probably chose black pants and socks for the contrast it will provide on TV when the shoes change color. Nike is marketing their goods. I certainly can’t complain. Seems to have worked out for us so far.
  23. Forums can be obnoxious because of trolls. The internet is like the fence…everyone is pretty brave when protected by that fence. All bark, no bite, or perhaps in a forum, no substance. Thanks to all that keep the barking at a minimum here.
  24. Moving the football by connecting on the long pass is always exciting. Many pass plays have routes that send at least one receiver downfield to “ stretch” the field. Since the deep receiver occupies DBs, other receivers have more space in which to work. Some defensive play calls allow a QB the time to throw downfield, and some don’t. Nix is a dangerous QB because he is smart, an accurate passer, and a real threat to run on a broken pass play. Short, or long passes? I say allow him to take what the defense gives, and just score points.
