Super Regional Game 3: Ducks LOSE 11-6, Season Ends
Mudslide replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Hey! Welcome back, PD! I'm so glad to see your screen name again. I know it takes a while to overcome what you've been through. Here is hoping you will be good as new, soon. -
Yikes. Serious Stuff about Oral Roberts...
Mudslide replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Yes. Ok. St. and Udumb were seen as big challenges for this small school. So, what happened? ORU went out and had 13 hits against Ok. St.'s decent pitching staff and had 24 hits (and FOUR homers) against our friends to the north. This Eagles team is likely going to be a big bite to chew for our boys. -
Scratching my head, with a little grin on my face, wondering what ever happened to the ADVERTISERS paying the freight on sporting events. It almost seems like they have gotten a message that still eludes conferences and their media partners. Ah ha. This economy is most certainly a down turning one. Somewhere in the bruhaha of this media circus-of-insecurity lies a reason ... more than that it is all tech or subscriber driven ... for a rush to streaming. "Save us, they screamed!" to Mother Streamer. I'm pretty certain there will be some winners ... but also big losers and collapses in this business in the not-too-distant future. Kinda like the U.S. debt, the cost of this business of collegiate sports broadcasting can only get so big before it will eventually face plant on itself.

Don’t Sleep On Oregon’s Secret Superstars
Mudslide replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Great article. Thanks, Joshua. Great analogy, by way ... peanut butter and jelly. Haha ... I can hear the locker room now. "Great TD, Peanut (or Butter)!" "Awesome run, Jelly!" You may have created a monster, JW. -

WWII: When the Fighting Ducks Came Marching Home
Mudslide replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Great rewind, Charles. Thanks. Those were years that must be remembered. Have a great Memorial Day, everyone. -
After watching all of the tournament games, I just might become a baseball fan again. Those were great, dramatic games that led to beautiful outcomes. Does anyone know what the four pitchers' injuries are? It seems like I recall that Stoffal has a blister on his throwing hand. If so, he has a decent chance of returning for the NCAA's.

Federal Government Looking to Regulate NIL? Good!
Mudslide replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Indeed, Klatt and his statements are head shaking and mind numbing. I agree with all you say mrspenney, but with one exception. Congress has a deep record of putting in controls that not only save nothing, but they also make matters worse. I suppose it's 'possible' that they save collegiate sports. Even a blind squirrel .......... -
You bet ... assuming he stays for the entire season. Ha, I guess he will. I think he's out of transfers.
-
And it's only his 6th school. Yikes. Oregon adds another NCAA Transfer Portal add to men's basketball 247SPORTS.COM The Ducks have landed another transfer portal commitment.
-
Both the men's and women's teams desperately need 3-point shooters. Williams is a good one!

Is Bo Nix Worth a 1.5 Million NIL?
Mudslide replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I expect that the NIL "salaries" will, just as with pro leagues, continue to competitively inflate until it's all beyond reason ... and ability of many schools to compete at all. And thus, it's back to my prediction last year, that the majority of colleges and universities will eventually only compete in 'club' sporting contests. These will be contests with no rewards other than maybe free ride scholarships for the players and bragging rights for the institutions. For these schools there will be no bowl games, no tv deals, no influx of media money. Think "D" League or minor league baseball, but without pay. Like the National Debt, it can't continue to inflate without serious consequences. And that's true of pro sports, as well. The billionaire's sporting industry house of cards will either be made sane with regard to fans' ability to support it, or it will collapse. And I don't trust any sanity being available here. I do trust in Charles' POV that we should at least have a couple of years to enjoy the PAC and our Ducks. But it also sounds like he may be thinking about shortening the 'joy' period ... just a little. Signed, Grumpy -

Can Thompson Re-Write His Story This Spring?
Mudslide replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I'm a nickel psychologist and will give you four cents change. But I've watched TT carefully when he is in a game. He truly does have the look of someone not wanting to make a mistake. I have yet to see him do a pre-snap read. There is no scanning the defense. He simply stares at the center's butt and readies perhaps one and only one movement and/or option on a play. That spells fear of failure to me. (Or it could be orders from HQ. Hmmm....) But that said, I hope for greatness from him, still. (I disagree with Charles' thought that strength, or greatness, cannot be built from weakness.) He has the tools, for certain. For me....TT, like the little train, just needs to believe he can! -
Want to Discuss the Transgender Debate in College Athletics?
Mudslide replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Thanks, Charles. -
What this fellow says is only a half truth. Yes, you can put in the work and get a good education. The question is ... does the institution assist you along the path or does hollow out ditches for you to fall in. Either way, one can learn a lot and make a good career. What is in question for me is the university's commitment to education ... or is it more committed to making money and gaining prestige? I'll provide an example of my distaste for UCB's treatment of students. I had a French professor that was very poor at the language. Would a teacher like that help or hinder your learning? And I had a 5-unit Honors Chemistry class. While the professor was very good, the lab teacher was almost never available nor helpful (nor even THERE) due to his graduate commitments. Much of Berkeley's resources (and prestige) went not into teaching undergrads, but to large research grants run by hired guns in the field. All schools are not alike, and academic success surely depends as much upon school resources as it does student effort.

Same here, Jon...first group for me, as well. I had friends who had already succumbed to the awful disease. And irony ... I received my last dose the day before I tried out for the basketball team. (I was not even close to occupying the bench. They were awful that year, so I guess that pretty much says what kind of bball player I was. ) I'm surprised Salk never won a Nobel Prize of some sort. But he was certainly highly regarded and won a bunch of awards for his work in virology. I guess we could use him now!
