  1. The finish of the 2022 UCLA game was masterful, DL's best in-game coaching IMHO. Just going by memory here, but I believe we went into victory formation with over 2 minutes left on the clock. Sure another first down would have absolutely sealed it, but watching Bo's moon shot into the stands to use every last second and deny UCLA even one play was a thing of beauty.
  2. I went through this crap with Charter and the P12 Network for years before they finally came to an agreement. I'd probably be a cable customer forever if they didn't keep jacking up my rates every other month. I guess the cable business model is to just screw their customers while they can before the medium becomes obsolete.
  3. What an exciting game! How does Curry do that? Talk about having a hot hand when it counts. I love the Olympic format. Ten minute quarters and they don't call very many fouls. The game really moves, not drawn out like NBA games are.
  4. Fair points Charles the injuries turned out to be a big factor. That said the game was still winnable and good coaches figure out a way to win the close ones. I'm not down on DL at all, but to my mind he still hasn't come up with that big win I know he's capable of. You got the last word if you want it and Go Ducks!
  5. Agree to disagree Charles, the record is what it is. Injuries are a part of the game. Are those mitigating circumstances? Sure, but doesn't change the poor in-game decisions by DL. Even he admits he should have taken the field goal before halftime. LIke I said, I'm bullish on DL just not pollyannish (not accusing).
  6. That's funny, I taught my daughter about life by overusing football metaphors, but dating metaphors for football?! That said I agree with the analysis, especially the big game wins. Look I'm bullish on Lanning, but at this point what is his signature win? Hell MC had 2 Pac-12 titles and a Rose Bowl win. If my quick Google skills are accurate, MC was 6-1 against Fuskies/Beavis (no Fusky game Covid year). So what is DL's signature win? Maybe 2022 vs UCLA or 2023 vs Colorado? Sure 2-0 in bowl games counts but Libery was hardly a worthy opponent and UNC barely had enough to field a team in the Holiday (big caveat here, Drake Maye wound up as the #3 overall pick in the NFL draft). But we also had Bo. Obviously 0-3 vs Fuskies is the worst, especially since two of those games were probably lost by the coaches. I grudgingly acknowledge they just plain beat us in the Pac-12 Championship this year. Not beating a dead horse here (well maybe a little) but in 2022 he couldn't coach us to a win against Beavis with a 21-point 4th quarter lead and a Pac-12 Championship berth at stake. This past year he couldn't beat the Fuskies on a neutral field with a playoff berth on the line. Again, I remain bullish on Lanning but do I love our chances at a natty this year? Not really, but we've definitely got more than a fighters chance.
  7. Forgive my colloquialism, but the NCAA is screwed, blued and tattooed. I agree with you Jon and you don't have to be a lawyer to know that any settlement that doesn't cap future damages would be disastrous in the long run. It's a new world order and college athletics (or at least the moneymaking portion) has to start with a clean slate by whatever means necessary. If that includes bankruptcy protection then so be it. I think most of us agree in principle that the athletes deserve compensation, but at some point you have to draw the line and move forward. Do we really need to compensate the estate of Knute Rockne for "The Gipper"?
  8. I've said it before, but the north side of the stadium is stuck in the 70s. Rubber dogs and cold pizza woo hoo! Also the choke points on the north side need to be widened. Pretty much everything there needs to be redone (guess where my season tickets are!). And please, if I hear "Don't Stop Believing" one more time I'm going to puke!
  9. Man this is turning out to be an expensive divorce. But you know why divorces are so expensive, right? They're worth it!
  10. Had to check my calendar to make sure it wasn't April 1, sheesh.
  11. Yeah I figured this was coming. I'm not a big fan of night games, Friday games even less so (although I didn't mind the Civil War games the Friday after Thanksgiving). Many of us who travel for home games are forced to take time off work for a Friday game. I don't mind so much because I'm retired but the wifey is still working (bless her heart) so she won't be thrilled about this. That said, I agree it's a great showcase for the Ducks, but as usual it's a bit of a hardship for travelling fans. Ultimately I'm just hoping for fewer night games period.
  12. Rich Brooks had the vision for improving the facilities and he sold it. Back then our only chance at 4-5* athletes was to pull them out of California and he lobbied hard for better facilities to impress the recruits. If I'm remembering correctly, the weight room back then was stuck in Mac Court. Uggh. That said Bellotti was the first coach to make the Ducks competitive on a national level, so he would get my vote. He was robbed of championship appearances twice and during the Joey years the program achieved its highest ever ranking at #2 after throttling Colorado. Chip had the flash to be sure, but he got the keys to an Indy car ready to race. Love the Chip years, but he didn't ELEVATE the program (except national attention) to the extent thay MB did. Helfie is a tough one, you can't ignore the Heisman Trophy or an appearnace in the very first CFP natty. He'll get a lot of the blame for the program's tumble but part of that is on Mullens for not paying for a top level DC when we desperately needed one. Love Don Pellum, but he wasn't the guy sorry and Hoke was a joke as a DC. Slick Willie and Mario helped the program somewhat inadvertently IMHO. They took our recruiting chops to another level then left the progum to someone who's the whole package, albeit still learning game-day coaching. When it's said and done I think DL will be the most successful coach in Oregon history.
  13. This is a ridiculous take. "Harm" infers malice and UO has made a significant effort (at substantial cost I might add) to soften the blow by rearranging the schedule to include the rodents for the next two years. Are they collateral damage? Sure, but they bear a significant amount of the blame for their own lack of marketability since both schools reside in the same media market. The current realignment phase is just plain ugly to be sure, but sorry little brother it's time to sink or swim on the merits of your own program, not the national brand down the road.
  14. I guess this was bound to happen, everything about the sport as we know it is changing. One of the more cherished aspects of the sport is the "feel good" story of a walk-on being awarded a scholarship. It's too bad, but you can't expect the bean counters to pay extra revenue shares if they don't have to.
  15. My local alma mater SOU has already gotten this figured out: SOU, KGU set for Saturday's Mills Bowl - Southern Oregon University Athletics SOURAIDERS.COM Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Raider Stadium.
  16. I concur. It's a bit of a cliche, but the cream always does rise to the top. Free market adjustments are rarely "equitable" and those relegated to lower tiers and consequent reduced income can scream all they want, but the B1G/SEC (and their broadcast partners) are calling the shots going forward. I still hate the way this all came down, but as predicted the OBD have landed on our webbed feet. The remaining blue bloods in the ACC are in the process of leaving (the Big 12 is already bereft of same) and even ND will most likely have to give up their exhalted independence to stay relevant. In addition it's only a matter of time before a highly ranked B1G or SEC team gets bumped by a Liberty or UTSA for a spot in the playoff and the next axe will fall.
  17. Well Jon, I'm no lawyer but it does seem to me that the "settlement" goes beyond the terms of separation as laid out in the contract. This leads me to believe that the 10 ex-pats just wanted a clean out without further litigation. Another consideratioin may be to assuage the consciences of the institutions that collectively buried a century's worth of tradtion in favor of the almighty dollar. Regardless, what's done is done, it's not going to change and the future for OMD is very bright.
  18. Call me old school, I've lived in this state my whole life and I feel the Civil War still means something. Do we have anything to gain by playing the barkrats? Hell yes, bragging rights for a year! We'll get plenty of recruiting exposure with our B1G schedule and whomever we schedule for our "premier" out-of-conference opponent. We currently play a mid-major annually and it might as well be the rodents because that's what they're now relegated to. I get it, there's a lot of P2 bitterness right now, 5 years from now no one will care. We'll be established in a Power 2 conference and our annual take will dwarf whatever the Biebers can come up with in the new MWC or whatever becomes of the P2. The P12 contract was written to include harsh penalties for those who leave the conference. We left, we're paying the penalty, but we're in a great spot for the long game. As my late father said when I was going through my divorce, "Keep your mouth shut and take the win". Some of the best advice I ever got.
  19. What a laugher, no way ESPN pulls out of the CFP. I wish they would though, I'd love to see the ESPN stranglehold broken up and it's not like there won't be other suitors.
  20. Yep should be banned, along with "Don't Stop Believin'" and "Sweet Caroline".
  21. Shot across the bow? More like an armed nuclear warhead.
  22. I'm sure the SEC honks got a real chuckle when Chip paid Willie Lyles with a check.
  23. I agree, a reasonable increase would be acceptable to me, but $1000-$3000 per ticket for some of these premiums? Not happening.
  24. First of all terrible analysis, secondly why even go this route? These are not professional athletes, they shouldn't be held to the same standard. Boettcher is a walk-on for criminy sakes, he's an overachiever and he gets dissed? Lame.
  25. Yeah Annie I filled it out, most of the options were way more than I'm willing to pay. We're on the north end and restrooms/concessions are pretty bad. As I responded, I don't feel like we should have to pay extra for facilities comparable to the south end. I guess we all know (or at least suspect) that prices are going up again at some point, I just hope long-time rank and file season ticket holders don't get priced out.
