I don't know how much of the actual coaching Deion's doing. What he has done is attract some very good talent to the foundering program, including coaches, assistants, etc. as well as the players. As to his longevity at Colorado: who knows? Either he will stay put, deciding this is his program, or a bigger opportunity will almost certainly come his way tempting him to try this same experiment at a bigger, more prestigious school. It's early on in this experiment yet, but obviously Dieon has found a lot of very good coaches to make this team suddenly viable again. I think he's just the Neon Light flashing NFL signs in from of all the participants, coaches and players. A light, btw, brighter to many than the big "Bodacious" signs lighting up the urban landscape.

What Pickell is describing here must be exactly what the officials at Oregon are hoping for. And the three billboards (ugh!) that Oregon lit up for 'Bodacious Bo' are a large part of that. It's a gamble, tho. A very expensive gamble. Unless Phil Knight endows Oregon with an endowment the likes of which universities like Ohio State, Michigan, and other huge schools have enjoyed for decades, tiny Oregon (whose entire student body is barely as big as the underclassmen at some of the large universities and who play in a market a fraction the size of those schools like USC and such) will be overwhelmed by those huge programs. I wonder: is there anything in the contract to enter the Big-10 that requires Oregon to eventually double the size of Autzen (doubt that can be done) or build a new, larger arena to accommodate double the fan base? And where would that fan base come from in a market like the Willamette valley?

Say, isn't the stadium at Laramie one of the highest (elevation-wise) in the nation? Perhaps the Red Raider's were gassed by the end of the game. In fact, very likely they were. That elevation difference can be a very real obstacle to overcome. This is not to take anything away from the Cowboys. They deserved the win. I can't wait to see how the Ducks do against Tyler Shough and company after this lop-sided with against PSU.

Ducks Push PSU Around While Duck Pushes the Ground
Mic replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
People like to laugh at the Duck mascot when he does the pushups after each score, not going all the way down then up. Hey, try doing this in a costume like that. And then try doing 546 of them in one game. If Oregon keeps up this scoring barrage the Duck may have to invent a new celebratory antic - before he collapses in cardiac arrest. Someone please keep the AED handy! -
That's a good point and his first hit was a good one by the defender. I was wondering how he would respond and if you go back and look at it again (if you were able to record it) you'll see Ty made it a point to bounce right back up and (almost) looked jubilant about it. He was, of course, happy about the yards gained, not the hit, but it was a confidence builder from what I could see. I wish he could have played the entire half after coming in.

What? Your telling us Wyoming won? Oh crap! Well, good for Wyoming - you gotta hand it to them for what was a big program win. Congratulations Cowboys. But it will diminish the game somewhat for the Ducks ASSUMING they win. If Oregon plays as flawlessly as it did today and limits the penalties like today it should be a convincing win for the Ducks. I sure didn't see this one coming.

He's technically a 'Sophomore' but he's been here on campus for three years, meaning he's approaching 21 yrs old at least. With age should come confidence. Next year he'll be 2-4 years older than many of his competitors. Nix will be gone, Novasad will still be getting his feet under him and that means the job at QB is his for the taking. I sure hope he has his head on straight and is ready to go. He looked it today - but that was an FCS team.
-
If he does get the chance, and he doesn't perform as well then I would say it might be in his own head. The young man has the physicality and the talent and the training to do well. I want to see why he was honored with 5 stars.

Let’s Grade the Position Groups vs. Portland State
Mic replied to Just Ducky's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
A for the team. A for the Offense (it was PSU) A for Nix, Franklin, Bryant, Ferguson, Irving and ALL the running backs et al Heck, A for everything except, possibly, a B+ for the Defense. (again, PSU) The D was spectacular for 90% of the game An A++ for the team penalty-wise. Man, was that refreshing! Least amount of penalties I've ever seen O flagged for. And lastly, an A+ for Coach Dan Lanning for having his team ready to play - with intensity - under control - all the way. To quote Nigel "They looked like they were in mid-season form." -
Me too. Much more so now. And on those few runs he made he looked fast and tough. It finally looks like Oregon has a good backup for Nix finally.

Let’s Grade the Position Groups vs. Portland State

PSU played it pretty smart here. On virtually every throwing play the QB threw from outside the pocket on a roll-out or such. The important thing here is there were no bombs thrown because the QB's feet have to be set. The throws were short 'outs' or to the flats and after the 2nd possession the Vikings could get nothing going either thru the air or the run. The Duck's D was superb at keeping everything in front of them and took away every running lane the Vikings tried to exploit. No sacks but it wasn't because the D didn't execute, 'cause it did. Spectacularly. -
He might, but then he seems to have landed on his feet and he did get his "dream gig" at FSU after he left O. Maybe he found out something about himself; that being he's not got what it takes to head up a program. A position coach in the NFL is a pretty good gig and a lot of those guys hold onto their positions for a long time. He's probably pretty content. I know I am!

Ok. Well,Ty didn't get to play the whole half, I think they brought Nix out to get him one more TD passing (which he got) for his Heisman run, and then Thompson got his shot. This was easily the best effort we've seen from him since he arrived on campus. Then he got nicked somehow and the freshman Novasad took over til the end of the game. But I think we can say Ty looked much better than he's looked in previous efforts. Of course, this was a severely out-matched PSU but ... Best thing about this entire game was there seemed to be no serious injuries and virtually no penalties. Wow. I don't know if I've ever seen that in an Oregon game before. What, one 5 yarder? I'll give Ty Thompson a B+ effort, maybe even an A-. And that easily eclipses anything I've seen from him before this. So glad to see that because next year (barring a transfer or something) he's the guy.

Sanders has the Buffs on quite a turnaround. TCU is a very high quality opponent and Colorado won this on the road. Colorado is suddenly a very dangerous team.
-
That's enough. Oregon has the lead (and then some) over the out-gunned Vikings. The game is out of reach for them. It's time to see what Ty Thompson can do. As a fan I want to see him play the entire 2nd Half to see if he can get into the flow of the game, run the offense and make plays. Time to put up or find out why. Just my opinion.

I think if you did a poll of Duck fans you'd find this list of 5 on just about everyone's list. My beef against Notre Dame is that NO team in the CFB (that wants to be eligible for the Playoffs) should be allowed to remain Independent and cherry pick their own schedule. No one. Play in a Conference like everyone else and try to win one like everyone else.

A dismal turnout, all right. But it was Miami OH and maybe (?) the students aren't all back yet. However, it does look like 'Canes fans are waiting for something worth what I can only imagine must be a lot of $$ for seats in Hard Rock. And to think, Odds Shark actually picked Miami-OH in this one! Mario's on-top-of-the-world right now.

And, against an SEC team. The Pac-12 was always getting dissed by the SEC. Now, in this last season of its existence, it's a big win for the Pac.

OBD Prediction Contest vs. Portland State!
Mic replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Oddsmakers giving Oregon a 99% chance of winning. Even they hold out for the possibility of a miracle happening. -
I understand. But let's see Season 2 and Season 3 and so on.... Don't misunderstand, I hope he's the best hire in CFB for the past 50 years.

Brilliant!

It'd be easy to dump on Florida after that performance but I won't. I'm glad Utah won and doing so without all the starters they had out was a huge indicator of how badly prepared Florida was for the game. Maybe Napier isn't quite the coach everyone was telling us. It's not easy being a head coach nowadays (if it ever was). And this is precisely the same concern I have about Dan Lanning. While almost everyone thinks he's the cats meow, my vote is still out on him. I like him but liking a guy personally isn't the point here. Winning games is. Especially at today's salaries.
-
If Whittingham is as smart as I think he is (he certainly knows how to coach football) he'll be done with this revolving door QB thing. UNLESS, he's doing it to try and keep Johnson and/or Barnes from the Transfer portal. The portal monster has got to be a nightmare for every coach in America. My guess is Johnson played even when he clearly wasn't ready strictly to try and hang on to him for the future.
-
Me too. My completely ridiculous prediction: OSU to the Big 12. WSU to the Mountain West. Pac-12 to the dust bin of history.
-
For me, it's definitely Miami - I haven't been a fan of theirs since before I was born. Mario ditching us for them didn't improve things. It's not that I wish him ill - it's just that I hope they (and he) continue to struggle and slide downhill until the ACC decides to replace them with Montana.
