Individual Grades for Stanford Game--No.1 May Surprise You
Mic replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
This doesn't wash with me because of one very important reason: Total snaps played. Example: #3: RT Malaesala Aumavae-Laulu — 75.5, #1: CB Jahlil Florence — 87.7. Florence played 15 snaps. Aumavae-Laulu played 65 snaps! -
Win Out and a Playoff Spot is Likely There for the Ducks
Mic replied to RichardDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I doubt Oregon will win out (tho I sure wish they could) but it would make a very compelling argument to include them IF they do because it was the very first game for Lanning and his entire crew, on the road, to the reigning Nat. Champs. I'd suspect a lot of people would be curious to see if Oregon was that good (talent-wise) all along but got jobbed by their own coaching in-experience. But O's chances? 1-in-5. -
Not really for us to speculate but I will say this: We heard he was injured. And we know he's been throwing opponents around after the play ends. So it could be either. Whichever, I hope he gets things straightened out and gets back in the game. But O has linebacker options.

Tough call. But I'd think Utah would be the better team to face if only because it's darned tough to beat the same team three times in a row and Chip Kelly has UCLA scoring points in bunches. Luckily, we'll know which team in a few weeks as both come to Autzen back-to-back. I think Oregon could win both of those games. Then, I'd pick the one which had the hardest time stopping our offense.

Seeing him on TV recently (college game day) it was pretty obvious they rest of the guys (Herbstreit, etc) are kinda carrying him along, watching out for him. He's not all he once was, that's for sure. But he was/is so popular that the show, to its credit, didn't want to jettison him. But it won't be long before he will have to step off the stage. I hope he's the one to make the call himself and not force the rest of the staff to do the tough thing. I'd hate to be the one to tell him it's over.

"Idealistic", is that what you term all these calls going against one team over another? I'd almost describe it as favoritism - but I'm loathe to blast referees because sports programs are having a real hard time filling all the positions needed in sports programs across the country. I hope (pray) our Refs are not biased, but at times one does wonder.

Big is one thing. Can he move, is he smart, has he shown flexibility and durability? Is he coachable and a good person? Big is easy, the rest not so easy.

In true Pac-12 cannibalism-fashion, WSU shocks USC. Except this won't likely happen this weekend. Darn it.
-
It could be because he has limited his interest to just certain teams, I suppose. Why would, say, TCU offer him if he's already indicated he wants to play for a Top 10 team, period? I'm just guessing here.

"Prediction: Iapani "Poncho" Laloulu to Oregon Ducks Farrington (Hawaii) four-star interior offensive lineman Iapani Laloulu, the nation's No. 7 guard, had a stellar trip to Oregon." (from the posted article above). Question: how does the "nation's #7 guard" rate only 4-stars? Are any of the first six 5-stars?

The NCAA had better get a handle on this fast. What's the next step, Unionism? That could kill the collegiate concept of amateurism - if it isn't already dying. Who's giving these young men all these dangerous ideas and/or advice, I wonder?

Ducks vs Arizona: Game-Prep Article Thread
Mic replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
By 30! wow. -
The Ducks had better have the penalty problem solved. Nothing kills drives faster than turnovers and penalties. They can't have either if they want to keep winning conference games, esp. road games like this one in Tucson. Anyone know if Justin Flowe will be available?

If Nix were to stay around for one more year (certainly a possibility) it would be far more than a 'mentoring year' for him. It could be a Heisman candidate year for him. He's not likely to win (imo) but certainly he would be one of the best in the Nation if he sticks around. And that mentoring thing you mention? - IF Donte Moore comes to Oregon there will be that too because I don't see any Freshman QB out-dueling Nix in a QB match next year. Not even Moore. I hope Moore does come here and that Nix stays. I didn't feel this way three weeks ago before the BYU game but I do now.

In complete fairness to the Bellotti phenomena I must suspect that Mike was taught good math when in school and he had this overly-generous PERS-thing completely figured out. He's THE top PERS recipient in the State of Oregon with a rather generous (some say gaudy) lifetime pension plan. Maybe that had something to do with his decision to stay put at Oregon. That, and he had Chip Kelly devising and calling offensive plays!

2.5 years, then tears. That's my complete guess. 2.5 years.

This will be one to watch how the refereeing goes. Where's the game, California or Pullman? If in Pullman, WSU has a good chance. In Ca, it's probably not going to happen for the Cougs.

Right now, Oregon sits @ #12 position, immediately behind Utah at #11. Given the bad start they had, the Ducks should be content with this and just keep playing to win. If they win out, they will have to face #6 USC sooner or later an if USC doesn't stumble, the Ducks could end up in the top 5 or 6 with a Pac-12 Championship. Or, Utah could. Or USC could. Or .... OSU, with a win in a rematch with USC, could end up in the Top 10 (assuming they win the North crown first). Or Washington...or WSU... Hey guys, this thing is still wide open.

I'm not completely sure what constitutes a "horse-collar" infraction but the replay showed clearly the Duck defender (Sewell?) had a hold of the jersey only, at the end of the shoulder pad - NOT THE PAD itself. If that's a horse collar infraction then so be it. If not, the NCAA rules committee had ought to make that clear to all officials and coaches - in every conference.

KPNW had reported that Seven McGee was ejected for throwing 2 punches at a Stanford player's helmet (come-on Seven, that's ain't gonna do nutin'). Replays of the "fight" didn't show it but there were a lot of players crowding around pushing and shoving and it would have been hard to see.. It might have happened. ???

Yeah, this is kinda what I'm thinking: two full seasons, possibly, (but only possibly) a third - but not if they don't climb back into the Top 25 in rankings. They didn't pay those gazillions of $ to be waiting around to get back in the title picture. My guess is he'll do a little better next year, then fall flat in the middle of the 3rd year and get let go. But I really don't care. GO OREGON!
-
Yeah, we've all been thru what you say here, but Ty Thompson has been at Oregon for what? 3 years now, including the Covid-shortened fiasco? And yes, this is another whole new system he's adjusting to but still... this doesn't explain his lack of a spark, his lack of coming into the game and trying to take it over. He seems almost reluctant to be in there, to me. I can't explain it, no once can but once again, Thank Heavens (!) Nix made the transfer after all.
-
At least on the highlight reels, brief as they are, when recapping ranked teams, the penalties won't show up - except for the so-called 'fight'.

Were there really that many there? That's great. I know of a couple friends, season-ticket holders who come down from Portland. They brought a motorhome to see this one.
