Oregon State's 2025 Schedule is Uninspired
OregonDucks replied to David Marsh's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Are they selling out the new, improved and expanded Reser Stadium, yet (when it's not filled by Duck fans)? -
The author doesn't give enough credit to Oregon's offensive line, IMO, who is playing great right now and not giving up sacks to anyone. The strength of Oregon's offensive line is the tackles so it's not surprising that Ohio State's ends didn't have much success in the game. Guess what...Oregon has future NFL players too! You are not playing Maryland, Rutgers, Northwestern, et al. I do think that Ohio State was arrogant. They thought that their CBs could cover Oregon's WRs and that the front 4 could get pressure on DG without blitzing. I'm guessing that if the two teams play again that Ohio State would have a completely different game plan.

FORGET the 2025 Season: Ducks Better Savor This Year…
OregonDucks replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I certainly can't fault players from portaging out if they are not seeing the field after a year or two, and wish them the best (except when they are playing us). Remember these were the best players on their high school team and amongst the best in their state/nation. They are all super talented/athletic and have been told their whole lives how great they are and that they would be playing on Sundays. It has to be a shock to their system when they get on campus and are buried on the depth chart. As competitors, they want to play (not just practice/develop). There are plenty of colleges out there without the rosters of Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, et al and many paths to achieve their long-term aspirations but some players, like Dillon Gabriel just want to play ball. -

Maybe Oregon will just have to go after the Montana State's QB, just like we did with Vernon Adams and EWU? Win-win! -

Oregon State's 2025 Schedule is Uninspired
OregonDucks replied to David Marsh's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Wow. That’s really bad. At least they get to play Cal. -
The time was definitely on Georgia’s side. It would have taken a miracle for Texas to score two TDs starting deep in their territory. It is definitely something that Coach Lanning would have done (see Washington game) but I’m surprised that Coach Smart went for it. Glad that it worked out.
-
No, I don't like when coaches chase points. Wait until later in the game and then decide if you need to go for 2. I also wouldn't have gone for the 4th down in the Georgia/Texas game late in the fourth quarter up by 2+ TDs. Statistically, it would have been nearly impossible for Texas to win that game, given the time remaining, but you increased their odds by failing to convert and giving Texas a short field to work with. Surprised that Coach Smart went for the first down, given how well his defense was playing.

Oregon's 2024 Offense Statistics Update - Concerning or Building?
OregonDucks replied to a topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Oregon misses Bucky Irving more than I thought we would and didn’t quite appreciate how good he was (Oregon’s best RB since LMJ?). I don’t believe that our current RBs are quite on his level (few are) and it’s had an impact on Oregon’s rushing game this season, IMHO. Jordan James is a more traditional running back who can get you the hard 4-5 yards, consistently, and run over people but our offense is missing that fast, shifty runner who can break the 80 yarder and catch the ball out of the backfield. I was hoping Whittingham could be that back this year but he doesn’t seem to be 100%, yet. Hopefully he can regain the speed and shiftiness that he had before the injury to create that true lightning and thunder backfield as we head towards the home stretch. He had an amazing catch last game! Just my 1.8 cents… -
The Ohio State WAAAH-mbulance Continues...
OregonDucks replied to kirklandduck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Again, Coach Day will not improve until he looks internally at the issues (e.g., clock management) and makes corrections. The more he focuses on the refs and things outside of his control, the better for the Ducks and all of the other talented teams he will play. -

FORGET the 2025 Season: Ducks Better Savor This Year…
OregonDucks replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I posted an article about this and the take away is that a transfer QB is less of a gamble. They made their mistakes, learned how to play the position and matured/developed into a leader. It's a lot easier to evaluate a QB with years of college tape than a high school QB dominating inferior competition (i.e., a man amongst boys). You just have to do your due diligence to make sure that they can fit your system and culture. I think that Coach Lanning and staff will continue to bring in talented high school QBs, in hopes of hitting a home run (e.g., Justin Herbert, Marcus Mariota) but also continue to bring in transfer QBs, especially if they are not convinced that the QB on the roster is ready to lead the team to a conference/national championship. I would expect to see a lot of talented QBs continue to transfer from Oregon and have success elsewhere. Just look at how bad the NFL is at projecting success at the QB position (and they throw millions and millions of dollars into it)! -

Coach Lanning, like most of the top coaches, is also ultra competitive. It's who he is and how he is built. He probably hates losing more than he enjoys winning. Dante Moore told a story about Coach Lanning looking for a corn hole partner and when Dante told him he wasn't that good, Coach Lanning went looking for another partner so he could win. LOL. As you mentioned, people like Coach Lanning are just built differently than 99.9999% of the people out there. He is energetic, will not settle and will ensure that he is surrounded by coaches, players and support staff that are willing and capable of competing for conference and national championships every year. I just don't see him letting up until the job is done and Oregon wins a National Championship (or multipe). So glad that the dude is on our side and leading our program!!! P.S. -- If you haven't seen it, watch the first minute or two of the Ducks vs. Them video this week on YouTube (i.e., the Purdue game). He learned A LOT from Coach Saban at Alabama and Coach Smart at Georgia, and has brought that attitude and process into the Oregon program. He's also a great motivator. -
Stephen A Says Alabama Hired the Wrong Guy
OregonDucks replied to 30Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Not surprisingly, Steven A. didn’t do his research. Alabama tried to hire Coach Dan Lanning and he told them thanks but “the grass is damn green in Eugene!” -

I get what you’re saying and have learned how to appreciate the moment but didn’t we say the same thing about last year’s team? Coach Dan Lanning (DL) has proven, in his very short time at Oregon, that he will be aggressive in the transfer portal to plug holes in the roster. I have complete faith in DL, with backing by Oregon’s NIL collectives, to build a championship level roster every year. The “rebuilding” year seems to be behind us in the era of the transfer portal. Of course, that doesn’t mean that the team will come together and live up to their potential every year. What if one of the two Texas QBs transfers to Oregon next year to compete against Dante Moore?! -
Urban Meyer. Dude is a scumbag but he wins everywhere he goes. Chris Petersen if he were willing to coach again. Obviously, really good coach. Hopefully, USC continues to look for former Trojans or the flashy hire despite the fact that two of their legendary head football coaches were Ducks.
-
Or does this mean Oregon expects a certain 5-star CB to commit?

USC: The University of Spoiled Children

I've lost a lot of respect for Klatt this season: 1) He is still fixated on Oregon's struggles earlier in the season against Idaho and Boise State and fails to recognize that teams can improve/get better throughout the season (note: in the transfer portal era, this may become the norm) 2) He does not watch the games or dig deeper (e.g., Oregon's offensive line struggles were due to injury and having to find the right group, BSU's Jeantry had a couple of big runs but was contained most of the game) but just relies on the box score -

Ducks vs Them | 2024 Oregon Football Game 7 | “The Noise Doesn't Matter” Coach Lanning: "The definition of a real team isn't defined by what other people think. Why, we could care less about what other people think, in this room. We don't care about the opinions of others. In a great team, what they recognize is what they can still improve." FEBU! In Coach Lanning, I trust!!!

Gosh, It Has Been SO LONG, and I Never Got Tired of It...
OregonDucks replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I love the optimism but suggest that we wait to see how the season plays out before proclaiming the 2024-25 Oregon football team the best in school history. We have had some really good teams over the past couple of decades but have never "gotten over the hump." My personal favorite Oregon Ducks football team was the 2007 Dennis Dixon led team. I had no doubt that that team was the best team in college football and would win the national championship, before DD crumpled to the turf with a knee injury. Devastating. -

Can we just end the college football season now?!!!! -
USC and UCLA are tied for second to last place in the B1G with a 1-3 conference record. Purdue is in last place at 0-4. I guess if you are going to suck, it’s better to do it with a lot of $$$$$$?
