Oregon - Penn St. Pre-Game Reports, Interviews, Etc.
They said the same thing the last time Oregon played Ohio State in the Shoe (and we had one arm tied behind our backs with Mario on the sideline). Both very talented teams with a great home field advantage. Ducks will have to show up and execute at a very high level.

Our Beloved Ducks: Not Quite Ready for 'Natty Time?
Last week, Texas Tech held Oregon State to 22 yards rushing / 0.4 YPC (42 yards / 2.6 YPC, excluding sacks). I wouldn’t be celebrating Oregon’s vaunted defense quite, yet…

College Coaching: Dabo Has a Meltdown
“[Dabo] Swinney is the second highest-paid coach in college football at $11.1 million, according to USA TODAY Sports.” If Dabo is going to accept his extremely high compensation then he needs to deliver. As other have said, he has not adjusted to the current college football landscape and the game appears to be passing him by.

Things to Do/See in State College, PA
Please let me know if anyone has found a good Penn State message board (preferably one that doesn’t require a subscription) or can recommend things to do/see in College Station, PA before the football game. Looking forward to seeing one of the coolest traditions in college football and hoping that our beloved Ducks can find a way to get the W. Go Ducks!!!

The Ducks Have a Problem with Run Defense
Florida International averaged 3.6 yards per carry and, through 3 games, Penn State is holding opposing offenses to 2.85 yards per carry. Neither we nor Penn State has played a team as good we’ll both see on September 27th but I think the concern about Oregon’s run defense is valid. Ideally, Oregon would get out to a huge lead and make Penn State’s offense one dimensional but it seems like the odds of that are pretty low (barring a complete PSU meltdown).

Oregon Football: 2025’s Best Defender So Far
I’ve personally really enjoyed watching the versatility, instincts and skill of Dillon Thieneman. It’s fun watching Thieneman come up to the line of scrimmage and plug holes and make tackles like a linebacker, while also dropping back in coverage and breaking up passes. It’s only a matter of time before he picks off a pass. Matayo Uiagalelei has also been terrific (as has Teitum Tuioti on the other side). I would not want to be a QB on 3rd and long. Matayo is average one sack per game! I don’t know how you could list a linebacker or defensive tackle, given the rushing defense, thus far. However, Mixon appears to be the best of the bunch to me but it might be our weakest unit on defense.

Foster Out at UCLA; Pry at Va Tech
I don’t know who would want to go to UCLA. It’s a dumpster fire and they are not set up to compete at the highest level in the current football environment. Maybe a young coordinator or a hungry successful coach at a lower division school?

That’s a very mature and classy post. I hope this young man can take advantage of his opportunity and realize his potential on and off the football field.

The Ducks Have a Problem with Run Defense
In the first 3 quarters of the Northwestern game, excluding sacks, Northwestern rushed for 94 yards on 22 carries. That is 4.3 average yards per carry. That’s not very good, especially against a team like Northwestern. It would be interesting to hear whether this is a result of our defensive line play/execution, linebacker play/execution and/or scheme/play-calling. I’m sure that Penn State’s OC is licking his chops watching Oregon’s run defense. The blueprint to beat Oregon might be to play that ugly B1G style - grind it out on the ground, limiting Oregon offensive possessions. Northwestern just didn’t have the personnel to execute this for four quarters.

Oregon-Northwestern Game Day Thread
Maybe we are thinking of a different play but I saw 0 Jordon Davison, lined up as the fullback, carry the ball in a 3rd and short for a first down. Limar has been the featured back with Whittingham out.

Oregon Football: Expectations of Dante Moore
Maybe but DM will have to prove it against better competition (e.g., Penn State, potential opponents in the B1G Conference Championship Game and playoffs/bowl game - assuming we make them). Lots of football left to play. Dream scenario - The Oregon Ducks win the 2025-26 College Football National Championship and Dante Moore goes #1 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Uniform Reveal! Classic Good Looks, of COURSE!
These are sharp. Whomever is picking the uniforms this year has done a terrific job so far, IMO. I’m curious to see what they pick for the Penn State game. Do they go with the all whites (aka storm trooper uniforms) for the white out?

Oregon Football: Did We Underestimate Dakorien Moore?
I’m always cautiously optimistic when it comes to high school recruits, particularly at the skill positions. Any Oregon fan who follows recruiting and has been around for a little while, can list a number of blue chip, 5-star prospects that either didn’t pan out or took a couple of years to develop. Cameron Colvin came immediately to mind when Dakorien Moore signed with Oregon. Colvin was a Rivals 5-star receiver and a part of the heralded De La Salle recruiting class. He was the #3 wide receiver and #10 overall player in his recruiting class. By his senior year at Oregon, he became a solid player but never lived up to the high expectations (which aren’t fair to put on these young men). I’m glad that Dakorien Moore is showing what he can do early in his Oregon career. He is clearly a talented player that has been coached well and appears to have good football IQ. Oregon will really need him this year with the departure of Tez to the NFL and the unfortunate injury to Evan Stewart. It’s clear that Coach Stein plans to get the ball in his hands, a number of different ways.

Oregon Football: Expectations of Dante Moore
Through 2 games, Dante Moore has exceeded my expectations. I knew he had arm talent (that was apparent from his high school tape, particularly the HS All Star Game where he threw for 3? TDs) but I had concerns about the picks at UCLA, particularly his ability to read defenses and the vision to see defenders. Sitting last year behind DG and rebuilding his confidence made a noticeable difference in his development (credit the young man for his vision and patience). It’s clear he understands the offense and is looking to check down, instead of forcing throws. I have high hopes for Dante’s upside but we’ll have to see how he performs against elite defenses (Penn State will be a huge midterm but it’s not the final exam). Go Ducks!!!
