Overlooked? Irrelevant? Germane?

Excellent point. They’ll get some but game reps matter. -
Overlooked? Irrelevant? Germane?
Vandownbytheriverduck replied to Vandownbytheriverduck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I didn’t think so, for you. However, why aren’t our more physically talented WR RB and QBs seeing the field? Experience? Or talent? Part of my argument is that the inexperience of youth is keeping better talent sidelined. Do you believe Redd, Johnson, Dye and AB are the best we can do physically? Would you agree they are less naturally gifted compared to young guys behind them? The “talent” seems to be waiting in the wings and only not seeing the field because of experience. -
Exactly. NCAA is filled with guys that physically peaked early like Canton but don’t have it over time and guys like Justin and Marcus that work to be great and develop their bodies in college. it’s why I love college football. I live the unknowns creating playing time and forcing their way on the field. maybe that’s part of our frustration. We raise our expectations based on ratings and not remembering these are boys becoming men and others less gifted will grow and work hard to be better than the 5*

Overlooked? Irrelevant? Germane?

Exactly. The Ducks lack speed height and strength at senior WR and even RB. The young recruits look amazing but not all have forced their way on to the field. As much as I love the following players, they need to be replaced with better physical talents/ specimens. Redd Johnson Dye Verdell AB speed kills on offense and the Ducks don’t have one player with proven ability to outrun everyone on the field. LMJ, KB, DAT. hopefully seven but at under 200lbs.... not certain he’s a 20 touch a game guy -
If I’m not mistaken, I believe our boreloved Ducks are STILL one of the youngest most inexperienced teams in the nation. How much weight or allowance should fans give that fact when evaluating performance? Personally it’s one of the reasons I’m not apoplectic about the lack of consistency. Two years from now if the results are similar, then I’ll Blow up! Curious if others believe it’s a significant factor or more that coaches aren’t getting it done.

Was under the impression he did attempt an religious exemption. denied that exemption. id elaborate but as the chinese say I don’t want to get “invited to tea” for violating the rules, again

Overly Bitter Ducks Outrageously beneficial discussions ostentatious belligerent drivel our boring Ducks oh wait our beloved Ducks.

Accountability. The games don’t happen without the fan$. Booing displeasure is exactly what is called for when it’s displeasing. It’s neither disrespectful or even unwarranted on many occasions. If the team are such snowflakes as to get upset or undone by booing bad play then there is a far deeper culture problem at Oregon. withdrawl symptoms are pretty powerful. MC took away some of our Saturday dopamine fix and replaced it with angst and frustration still 5-1 but just not that entertaining a football product as previous iterations.

Last play of the game. Shotgun snap.
Vandownbytheriverduck replied to geoquack's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Heck just snap it out the back for a safety and punt away with :02 Lost Fumble in the end zone was the only bad possible outcome and the Ducks called the formation to allow it. who do coaches turn to for coaching on how to coach? -
Why Don't we Like Cristoball/ABall?
Vandownbytheriverduck replied to Haywarduck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
They are winning, and winning matters most. However, I’m tired of hearing how great and physical and disciplined and hard working they are. I’d rather hear MC talk em down and have them play up, than hear all the rah rah and see an undisciplined team that isn’t maximizing talent struggle against lesser talent. This game should have been over in the first quarter. It took until the last two seconds to beat a 1-4 team at home after a bye. C’mon. -
They are 5-1 and largely control their destiny but this Ducks offense isn’t doing anything against talented well coached defenses. AB is solid but unspectacular. He made one big throw yesterday. For a TD but the bottom line is Redd and Johnson are experienced but lack physical dominance, like Devon Williams who had a nice game. At 5’9” 175 lbs you are at a disadvantage at wr unless you can out run, out quick, or out muscle your way to being open. Why the Ducks couldn’t run earlier, more and use less QB runs escapes me. Ducks should have run all day on Cal. AB made some great plays on the ground but seems to lack field vision, targets receivers with his eyes and misses the read often enough to hurt in close games. I'm most worried that another week our MC preaches, we eagerly suck it up, and then watch the same boring offensive product another week. It’s one great thing to coach up 1-3 star players and win but feels worse to have to loaded roster and feel like each week we’re getting less than the full capability. The intuitive overall feeling is of a very average team not meeting expectations and allowing opponents to dictate. And the clock management, AGAIN???

Cal GameDay Thread: A 2021 Crossroads Game?
Vandownbytheriverduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I just think that with two plus minutes to go you work to score first. Burn clock inside their 20 not on your 40. reactionary timeouts again. Unforced errors galore. -
Cal GameDay Thread: A 2021 Crossroads Game?
Vandownbytheriverduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Let’s face it. The Ducks as an entertainment product is diminished caliber viewing. Fast hard finish is no more. That was a wasted two minute drill capped beautifully by a fumble. that the clock management hasn’t yet been figured out is a huge red flag. Is MC trying to get himself better each week. Not seeing it. defense looks are more varied with more personnel but not exactly Georgia like. -

Is Travis Dye an EVERY-DOWN Back to You?
Vandownbytheriverduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
He is Not big enough not fast enough or durable enough. Ball Security will always be an issue when you are undersized and not as strong. Still refuses the gloves. It’s time to see who fills Verdels spot while running dye as long as he performs. -
Targeting Calls Are Ruining College Football
Vandownbytheriverduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The targeting rule was needed to effect behavior but the ejections and half game suspensions should only be applicable for demonstrably intentional misconduct which is blatantly obvious to both replay booth and field observants alike. -
Time For Hope: Let The Freshman Play
Vandownbytheriverduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The Ducks are a one loss team. I want to see the young talent as much as anyone but until there’s another loss or the offense fails to improve I don’t see changing QBs quite yet. But the ceiling people discussed preseason looked to have been reached at the moment at several position groups, not just at QB. WR, RB, QB all have starters who likely WONT play on Sunday. Verdel, Dye, Redd, Johnson, Brown don't at present look like Sunday players. Whose going to step up and take starting roles? I understand and almost agree with putting the young guys in for experience. But I’m not sure that at one loss and ranked 8 its quite the time to start to play for next year. I think continuing to compete and weathering this storm of injuries together will pay culture dividends next year -
Spot on. Sadly Mario is also learning on the fly how to actually be a head coach and without any kind of natural play calling ability. He needs to get better. But so do some position groups. We talk about QB but let’s be honest; Verdell and Dye aren’t ever outrunning anyone nor do they have the bruising stature to run all day between the tackles. Physics matters. I love watching those guys run but want a fast 220+ running the rock in the or killer level speed. Right now we have two really good smart experienced backs who are a tad slow and not that big or durable. Johnny Johnson and Jaylon Redd aren’t out jumping people or running away from anyone either. Not tall, not that fast, pretty good hands, great blockers. Not the tag line for championship teams WR roster entry. I can’t predict whether the Ducks would be better off playing some of the younger more physically gifted players but know that as much as I’ve enjoyed Dye Verdell, Johnson, Redd they are not physically gifted at their positions and there is a lot of room to upgrade at RB WR and QB too.

I heard Mario had Joe Moorehead line up 7 yard deep from a brick wall and try to prove “you can just run right through it, Joe”.

Cristobal’s Problem? It’s the Oregon Fans!
Vandownbytheriverduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I’m willing to give MC the time but want to see him improve his coaching skills as well. The clock management still needs work. The offense has the talent to score 50 every game but doesn’t. Why? MC didn’t call plays in the absence of JM. Or did he and how many? Does MC have an offensive mind? Is MC deadweight on game day. why is 5 yard shotgun better than running behind a 360lb guard with one yard to gain? run the ball stop the run pressure the qb. easy as 1,2,3. -
Injuries and youth aside, this team looks weak at times. Huge upside but not there yet. My best predictors for winning football are Run the ball, stop their run, pressure the qb. The Ducks don’t consistently dominate at any of those. two first downs needed late in the game. Control your destiny. The offense should have won this game. That they couldn’t only reinforces the idea that the offense isn’t really that good. Now that the playoff aspirations are essentially done, is it time to start giving younger players real snaps? WR, RB, QB?
