David Marsh No. 1 Share Posted November 24 Serrious question and one I don't have an answer to. Texas has an Indiana problem... Easy schedule and then lost badly to their first ranked opponet. Georgia has a loss to Alabama and Ole Miss both of who have worse losses. Alabama lost to Vandy, and we can't unsee that and then lost to Tennessee which may or may not have an offense on any given week. Tennessee lost to Georgia badly and Arkansas who are not good. Then Ole Miss lost to Kentucky and now Florida. And I'm not going into LSU and TMAU who also both have embarrassing losses and their best wins seem to be fading. So who is the best in the SEC? If I had to pick... Georgia... But what about your pick? 1 3
30Duck Moderator No. 2 Share Posted November 24 It looks like you have to go with Georgia, who has had the hardest schedule and has looked the best at moments. The best an SEC team has looked this season was Georgia in the 2nd half of their loss to Alabama. But, the worst can also be Georgia in their win over Kentucky.

What is also clear is that Florida is not a team to be underestimated. They beat Ole Miss and LSU and they did play Georgia very close until the end. So the answer as to the best team is Florida? Right?
OregonDucks No. 6 Share Posted November 24 I agree with Georgia and the tough schedule they played. Not sure Oregon’s record would be any better. That said, while Georgia’s defense has looked amazing at times, their offense leaves a lot to be desired and they are very beatable (unlike seasons in the past). Mike West No. 8 Share Posted November 24 I believe Alabama is the biggest threat because you have to cover their QB as much as their receivers. Not to mention, he is a damn TE sized runner with speed. Any team that can protect their QB is going to defeat any team in that conference. Easier said than done, but that's the formula. And you have to be the more physical team the ENTIRE game. All the contenders thrive on momentum - physicality suffocates that momentum. OBD got lucky with a late bye week. Nevada Dawg No. 17 Share Posted November 24 What a weekend in the SEC. My head hurts thinking about all of this. I'll add one more complication in the form of a supposition, What if UGA loses to rival Georgia Tech on Friday night? They are still going to the SEC championship game, win or lose, I believe. and should they win there (nothing is a shoo-in this year) you'll not only have a 3-loss team in the playoffs but one who earns a bye and plays in the Sugar Bowl. Now who could have ever imagined such a scenario even two weeks ago. "Not I" said the little red hen! Charles, you might care to post a new prediction thread seeing who can come closest to predicting the CFP Committee rankings for teams 1-12 that will come out on Tuesday evening. Should be most interesting. 1

No, I think asking for a prediction as to whether the Playoff Committee will insist the No. 1 team in the nation to play the No. 2 team in the nation three times by placing them in SAME SIDE of the bracket, unlike any other time in NCAA History is more interesting question? Well, that, and "Would they do that to SEC teams?'" 1 Mr. FishDuck

GeotechDuck No. 20 Share Posted November 24 Right now, it looks to me that three teams are separating themselves from the rest of the pack. Those teams are Oregon, tOSU, and Georgia. Texas could be in that group too, but we won’t know until the playoff because of their trash schedule. Hopefully those 4 teams all don’t end up on one side of the bracket. However, I am not holding my breath.

DrJacksPlaidPants Moderator No. 27 Share Posted November 24 Ole Miss has three losses against unranked teams. Bama has two losses against unranked teams. A&M has one loss against an unranked team. The funny thing about this is the Aggies can still make the SECCG next week with a win. The committee has also said they won’t overlook a conference championship game runner up because they’re still considered the second best team in the best conference. So, it’s feasible that a four loss A&M team could be in the playoff.
OregonDucks No. 28 Share Posted November 24 I love all the SEC coaches and apologists outraged this week that they only may get 5 teams in the playoffs, and then teams proceed to lose to unranked .500 teams. Maybe they should have just let things play out. Most people said, before the season started, that a 3 loss team would be unlikely to make the playoff, most seasons. You certainly let the committee decide your fate.

They are probably the 5th best, with the second easiest schedule in the conference (behind Texas).

After playing 8 straight games vs. B1G competition and surviving late in the slate travel demands while playing two teams coming off byes in game 7 and game 8? I hope the B1G doesn't do the same to OBD in 2025. The Duck has earned the chance to doze. I can't believe the SEC is playing the same conference schedules next season with only a change in venues. Why did the Bama, Georgia, Florida, Oklahoma, and Mississippi State () ADs go for this red carpet welcome for Texas and a tough row to hoe for the SEC Blue Bloods? And with 8 conference games, the SEC will have all of the tie-breaker worries it is having this season. You never know when an Indiana or Vandy will pop up. But IMO (beside making Notre Dame play 10 P4 games) the Power 2 should divide their conference into quads and while keeping traditional rivalries in place, make the in-conference schedules as balanced as possible. And you cannot set up B1G vs SEC games without a change in the PO format when the PO Committee ignores SOS as has been the case to date. Why is Ohio State opening against Texas next season and Michigan playing at Oklahoma? For that matter, why is OBD playing OK State and not Tulsa? Michigan wasn't punished for playing three G5 opponents OOC in 2023 and the winner of the 2024 B1G champ game with no P4 opponets OOC, will be the PO's No. 1 seed. HECK OF A FORMAT! As to physicality. If you caught any of Penn State's close escape against Minnesota, you missed as physical a game as I have watched all season. Thanks, Mike, it's always good to read and ponder your comments. FROM Stewart Mandel's wrap-up - This is the first time since 2011 that Bama has failed to score a TD .
