Dan Lanning's Movie Reference Ahead of the Big Ten Championship Ruffles Feathers

Recommended Posts

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning has been on a hot streak of brilliant playcalling and bully-esque timeouts against big-time opponents. Now, he has referenced yet another great film.

Most recently, Lanning referenced a movie that seeks absolute retribution against Nazis during World War II... None other than Inglorious Basterds.

While some people are turned off by Lanning's less-than-normal methods, they may want to sit back and realize that it takes a few inglorious techniques to win a national championship, which is Oregon's true goal this season.

There are levels to this... how can you not want to run through a wall for this coach? We are all witnessing something special. Lets soak it all in.

I thought that smashing a Washington helmet with sledgehammer was a bit off-putting; after all there is usually a head inside one of those helmets. But, at least Lanning didn't use a flame-thrower.

The title of the article is misleading. Whose feathers did he ruffle? I didn't really see examples of any person or group of people getting offended. The Tweet from Barstool Sports is just pointing out how unconventional he is. They are the last group of people who would be offended by anything sports related unless you insult Boston teams.

In the Ducks vs Them video he was also talking about how the Ducks need to take a bat to the Huskies. But he was also saying how it was metaphorical.

What is absolutely clear is that Lanning and the Ducks are living rent free in a lot of people's heads right now. That is a great place to be.

Have you seen the scene in " The Untouchables" with Al Capone and the baseball bat?

Nick Aliotti told a story that I read about Mike Bellotti bringing a Stanford Helmet and sledgehammer to a pregame pep talk. Apparently when he hit the helmet it just squirted across the room…not much damage…lol

It was a little bit out there but the bashed Fusky helmet was on topic and the Inglorious Basterds reference had the desired effect on the team.

It's not like he shot a dog...

If a bunch of Our Beloved Ducks came running out of the tunnel at halftime welding sledgehammers against the Fuskies, then I might have been a tad bit concerned about the smashing of the helmet.

The concept of metaphor seems to be lost on the Fuskies. They seem like a rather overly sensitive bunch.

Perhaps this is what 6-6 does to some fan bases.

I like how he had Boucher carry the bat on the field for the Ducks. Very fitting.
