Charles Fischer Administrator No. 1 Share Posted December 8 I think my neighbors across the street heard me for the first time when I screamed at the TV...when he called Oregon "Finesse" for the second time. He kept bringing up OUR penalties, or ones that should have been called, and effectively "apologized" for having to give Oregon credit. It is very apparent he wanted the "established east" B1G team to win, and his bias really damaged the entertainment value of the game. "Oregon really got away with one there." Old money does NOT want new money to do well, let alone sit at the Head of the Table? They are sick of Oregon already, and Dan Lanning is just getting started! EAT IT, B1G! 1 2 6 2 4 Mr. FishDuck
spartan2785 No. 2 Share Posted December 8 He's been awful forever, it's not just that he always seems to have a rooting interest, it's that he's just plain wrong a lot, he adds nothing in terms of analysis, Nessler is awful as well. If I'm the SEC I'm delighted that they traded Nessler/ Danielson for Fowler/Herbstreit. 2

I yelled at him to “shut the he!! up” multiple times during the game for all the same reasons you mentioned. Now that I wrote that out, am I a little embarrassed that I was yelling at the TV when no one could hear me? A little. 1 1
Drake Moderator No. 4 Share Posted December 8 Oregon kicked down the BIG conference’s front door on the way to the title. They beat the best that the BIG had to offer…tOSU, Penn State, Michigan… Danielson = annoying commentary 1

GeotechDuck No. 12 Share Posted December 8 That was so bad last night, that there were times during the game where I just started laughing out loud. There were points in the game where they had no idea what was going on. I kept saying to my family “where did they find these dudes? Shady Acres retirement home?” 2

And time after time I saw Penn State's offensive line get away with holds. Aller's big run up the middle should have been called back because it was super obvious that the Penn State offensive line was dragging an Oregon lineman out of the play and from occupying the middle, where Aller ran. The fact of the matter is that this crew didn't call that many penalties. Penn State had obvious face masks early on in the game and then acted like a bunch of thugs pushing Duck players around after this whistle. Credit to the players for not reacting and drawing their own flags. Second half the ref crew called one hands to the face penalty on the Ducks which was pretty blatant. But otherwise took the second half off. I guess the refs were consistent if that was consistently absent. 3
DanLduck No. 14 Share Posted December 8 It's comforting to know I wasn't the only one yelling at the TV to shut up! Some things never change, good announcers are hard to come by. They all think what they say is more important than the game. Not hardly.
Chas Man No. 15 Share Posted December 8 (edited) One of their more maddening tirades was when the Penn State punt returner got called for the fair catch signal "that wasn't an infraction" in their high and lofty opinions. I muted the tv at regular intervals from that point on! Edited December 8 by Chas Man
30Duck Moderator No. 16 Share Posted December 8 As bad as Nessler/Danielson were, I'm thankful to the nth degree that we weren't subjected to Gus "He got a first down!!!" Johnson. The guy is is exhausting. A part of the problem is that he made his name calling a shot by a Husky that won a basketball game. I don't remember the details, but the echoes will never leave. Imagine if Gus did the play by play at the Forum with Decorum, "Did you see that post, and that quote!!!"

I muted the tv at regular intervals from that point on! Especially when the Ducks defenders obviously pulled up. The fact of the matter is that any arm movement should be considered a fair catch signal. Even if it's gesturing for players to get out of the way and let the ball bounce... Which is as good as a fair catch in reality. If he didn't gesture, fair catch or not, he would have been demolished by the coverage team. The penalty for tackling a fair catch signalling player is too high to not respect. Again... We talk about safety in the sport. This is 100% the right call. The coverage team did exactly what they should have done... Pulled up and not blasting him which is what they would have done without any arm movement. Knowing our luck everyone would have cried foul if the returner was destroyed because he "didn't signal his army above his shoulder". 2

PittDuck No. 20 Share Posted December 8 And the catch that wasn’t. Franklin whines about the refs not giving them the replay, yet he had his team snap the ball before they would have. The smart play would have been to throw the red flag, or at least delay the snap till the clock was down to 2 or 3 seconds, but PSU opted for a quick snap!

Dan did a great job slowing the game down when he needed to there. Penn State was definitely playing with a lot of tempo at times.
