30Duck Author Moderator No. 3 Share Posted December 11 Yeah, Sux to be you This sucks. Once again, UW is at the crap end of one person's career decision. At least with this one we won't have to deal with everyone calling us Stepping Stone U. Well ok, back to the drawing board with the defense. I am going to assume Bala and Sunseri go with him ... It will be interesting to see what our defense recruits do. I am assuming they will go to UNC or Oregon. I know Lanning was after ZRS. Epperson and RDA had Oregon offers too ... 2
30Duck Author Moderator No. 4 Share Posted December 11 I don't know about this UNC just fired Mack Brown, who started there, went to Texas and came back, he's 73, Belichik is 71. The NFL didn't hire him when he left New England. he's never coached a college team. We see the amount of energy Lanning and his staff put in. Is Belichick up for that? Is his name going to have recruits lining up to play football for him at Thee Basketball School?

The amount of energy it takes, the need to relate to 17-year-olds, all the other business with staff, boosters...it doesn't seem a good fit for what is objectively a grumpy old man. Plus, the game on the field itself has changed in the past decades. Even his son looks old and grumpy, to boot.

Charles Fischer Administrator No. 11 Share Posted December 12 Yep, the strategy of a small percentage of 20-something year old women is called, "the starter marriage." (Lots of videos about it by women advising other women) Find someone with resources, divorce his rear after enough years, get half the assets and set up guaranteed income for quite some time. If there are children, then outrageous child support if the man is affluent. (Like $20,000 a month that Tom Cruise was paying) From there she has her base of assets and income, and can then begin to set the bait for the next simp-sucker. Family law rewards this behavior, and the statues are certainly stacked in one direction. But hey--don't pay any attention to someone recently divorced. 1 2 Mr. FishDuck
Jon Joseph Moderator No. 12 Share Posted December 12 Is Tom Brady eligible? Check the record for The Curmudgeon with and without Tom. This hire confirms that Chapel Hill is a 55 and older community for coaches wanting to retire to North Carolina. (He'll have to sneak his paramour through the back door ) When an AD has reached puberty and is still using the name 'Bubba,' you might want to double-check his decision-making. What's the over/under on Bubba having tar on his heels? Will 17- and 18-year-olds flock to BB because he won the Super Bowls in New England? Or because of his beguiling personality? No group is happier over this hire than the scribes covering UNC football.

Haywarduck No. 14 Share Posted December 12 If I was the administrator at a college full of young women, a single 70+ year old coach with a 20 something girlfriend would send off alarm bells all over the place. I won't go there with her intents, the environment he is going to and his track record should alarm anyone with their eyes wide open. As far as BB lasting, he will just be there long enough for his son to take over. This is like a fighter trying to get one last fight, and we all know how that ends. Lanning has to be looking at this like Tyson in his prime.

woundedknees No. 16 Share Posted December 12 My first thought when I saw Belichick was hired by UNC was, "How fast does his son bail on UW?" In order to shoehorn his fair haired boy into a future HC position, they will need to be outstandingly successful... In a short amount of time. IMO, Dan Lanning, he ain't. Recruiting a 20-something girl to spend time on the proverbial dance floor is hugely different than convincing 18-20 year old boys to a brutally difficult (However disciplined) game. She might be able to help him understand the vagaries of NIL and the portal, though.

Solar No. 20 Share Posted December 12 BB was hapless after Brady left. Looked too old to succeed against the headwinds of being a successful team year after year. But now in modern day college football that takes 10 times the effort to build a team than the NFL he's going to succeed at an even older age? Dennis Erickson had some success with the Beavers in his older years, but that was a different era of college football. Regardless, happy to see UW as stepping stone U again after giving us so much crap about it.
JabbaNoBargain No. 21 Share Posted December 12 (edited) Recruiting? NIL? College football experience? Donor relations? Energy and vigor to build something? I lived in "the Triangle" for four years, including when Mack returned. Football is, and always will be second fiddle on Tobacco Road. IMO, an unequivocal stunt hire by Bubba that will feel good for about 10 months. If they get at least a couple of good seasons of attendance in that fall sport Bubba is happy. 30Duck Author Moderator No. 22 Share Posted December 12 As expected, a lot of former players of Belichik on the Patriots were interviewed about this, and one of them mentioned how he was coaching his high school players and he was going on and on, then he realized, "these kids have no idea what I'm talking about, I was using terms that Bill used when he was talking to us." That's what Belichik will be doing when he's talking to the UNC players, and what players will they be? A member of Belichik's staff said that no Bill wouldn't be sitting in potential recruit's' living rooms, "he'll have people for that" Yeah, that'll work.
