HappyToBeADuck No. 2 Share Posted Wednesday at 12:57 PM Charles, since the ridiculous 12 team CFP format is forcing OBD's to play a title level opponent in the quarterfinals, the answer is YES.......... Unleasch whatever is necessary.... However, it depends on how the game unfolds. If the Duck D cannot dominate in the trenches then osu2 will put up 42 to 49 plus points. In that scenario the Duck offense must unleash or utilize any player or trick play needed to never have to punt. Having to punt even 1 or 2 times could cost OBD's their season. The Buckeyes D does not have enoigh secondary high skill defenders to double Tez or single cover Stewart or Holden. That is why they cannot blitz Gabriel. If the blitz is picked up then DG can throw Bird Bombs. Or hit the tightends in the seam. In the first game, osu2 had no answer to stop the Duck O. The Ducks left 10 to 15 points off the scoreboard. They will need at least 45-50 IF, The Duck D plays like they did against PSU. In that scenario the Buxkeyes will score easily and often. The Duck D needs to unleasch the hounds and create chaos. The D is the key to victory. Howard gets rattled when you pressure him. This is the 41st game of the DL era. We as fans have seen glimpses of chaos from the D. This game would be a great time for a full game of chaos. Multiple sacks are critical and getting 3rd down stops will be the difference in victory or defeat for OBD's. Winning this game and the Natty deprnds on a dominant performance by the Duck D. Bird Bombs, picking up blizes, sacks and tight coverage have allowed the Ducks to be 13-0. 14-0 will depend on how the Ducks execute in all 3 phases in this game. In October, Will Howard did not execute the final play and the Buckeyes lost the game. The 2025 Rose Bowl showcases the 2 best teams who are evenly matched. Without a few surprise plays to tip the scale this game may be decided on one play. GO DUCKS...... MERRY CHRISTMAS OBDF! 1 1 4

30Duck Moderator No. 4 Share Posted Wednesday at 02:32 PM Osu2 has made a point to let the whole world know they've changed things since losing to the Ducks, with more subtlety I'm confident that Lanning, Stein and Lupoi have some new stuff. One big change. that can be huge for OBD doesn't involve any new exotic packages; it's just 285 lbs of Jordan Burch that osu2 didn't have to deal with last time. It worked last time. The Ducks definitely need to go to Stewart deep, early and often, as Charles noted, not only is that good in and of itself, it opens up Tez even more, not to mention, Ferg and Sadiq. If osu2 wants to blitz? Please do, DG has a insanely quick release. 1st downs & 3rd downs are going to ultimately decide the game. Getting to the "line to gain" is imperative, what knocked PSU out of the CCG the most were its penalties early in the game. Explosive plays will happen, but more important will be just keeping possession. 1 1
DanLduck No. 5 Share Posted Wednesday at 05:16 PM Yes, release the 'Quack'en! Give em 'ell boys! I'm also confident in our coaching staff using the available time to fine tune an appropriate game plan. I think we will win, but this will be one tough, hard fought game. tOSU have played an improved defense since losing to us, especially shutting down explosive plays and passing td's. I think our coaching is better. Our qb is better. Our O-line is better. Our TE's are better weapons. Everything else is a push. Looking forward to reading about all the new plays being diagnosed by Fishduck in Jan. My only concern is the officiating. tOSU gets away with too many holds and P/I on passes, and their O-line holds alot. We, on the other hand, seem to draw flags far too easily. If the officials do a fair and honest job, we should shock the football establishment and win by 2 scores or more, cuz Our coaching is gonna be that good! 1 2 2
idontrollonshobbas No. 6 Share Posted Wednesday at 05:37 PM Just this past week I have started to hear a rumor about the B1G Championship game. Supposedly, multiple defensive starters had norovirus during game week. Obviously, Coach Dan's progrum doesn't allow excuses, right? But, if true would explain the less-than-peak performance we witnessed. 2
Jon Joseph Moderator No. 7 Share Posted Wednesday at 05:56 PM Thank you, Charles. Merry Christmas to all OBDers. I don't know if OBD will blitz more often but tOSU DC Jim Knowles will bring the house. Gabe's stats under pressure do not come close to his stats when he has time to throw, true of every QB. Knowles was roundly criticized by Buckeyes fans (do they ever have anything nice to say?) for the lack of pressure Ohio State put on Gabe in Eugene. If Howard is on, as he was in Eugene, and Saturday night in Columbus, and with the skill players he has on hand, I find it difficult to differentiate between the Ducks and Bucks Os. The Ohio State D has been solid all season. The tOSU D has not seen a passing attack as lethal as Oregon's but once this season. I'm with Charles, go after the Buckeyes DBs who appeared to be overrated on October 12th. The Oregon D could not stop the Boise run game early in the season which is understandable. The D was lit up by a Penn State team with a very good run game but without a true threat at WR. This IMO is worrisome. I think the game will come down to the wire and the winner of this game wins the whole enchilada. GO DUCKS! Stuff the Bucks! 2 1 3
PittDuck No. 8 Share Posted Wednesday at 06:33 PM Right on Charles! This is the time to open the playbook and as DanLDuck says Release the Quack’en! Time to put together a complete game, hold nothing back and beat the buckeyes black and blue. I want to see our boys smiling and happy as they put some Defensive Domination and Offensive Annihilation on osu2. Cry Havoc and Release the Ducks of War! If OBD plays to their abilities, they will bring all of us a Happy New Year and the Dawn of a New Era in College Football. 1

After watching the game again....I don't think that was the reason for Penn State run-gashing us. We did not set the edge well, and when our defensive tackles were both double-teamed--our linebackers did not come up and fill the gaps fast enough, IMHO. This is not your normal Penn State; that offense has become much more highly skilled as they burned us on pass plays that only a great OC can create, and a QB can implement. Their balanced attack kept us off-guard and hesitant, and that new OC for them has completely changed the outlook for the 'Lions for next year. PSU already had really fast defenders, a defense that was tough, but adding an offense that is now becoming more skilled and attaining their confidence makes them a much more difficult team. They will be a 'Natty contender now...this year and beyond. They absolutely are a 'Natty contender this year... 5 Mr. FishDuck
OregonDucks No. 10 Share Posted Wednesday at 07:46 PM I hope that Coach Lanning and staff leaves everything on the field in the Rose Bowl. On offense, send Stewart deep early and often. If Ohio State has a deep safety over the top find Tez, T-Ferg or the running backs out of the backfield. If not, bombs away with a QB that throws as good of a deep ball as you'll find in football. If Ohio State is aggressive and blitzes, as some have suggested, then hopefully we'll hit them with screens to our running backs, tight ends and wide receivers or quick slants/crosses over the middle of the field. Unleash DG to use his legs, as a major weapon against this terrific Ohio State defense. Just instruct him to get down or get out of bounds instead of taking on Ohio State tacklers unless it's a critical 3rd or 4th down or goal line situation. On defense, I'm sure that we'll see if our front 4 can get pressure, especially with Jordan Burch back and healthy, without having to blitz. If not, then hopefully we'll see our defensive coaches utilize the zone blitzes / simulated pressures that Coach Lanning learned from Coach Smart. As I mentioned in another thread, I would double team Jeremiah Smith (who might be the best WR in college football despite being a freshman) and force Ohio State's other wide receivers to beat you. Go Ducks! Beat the Bucks! 1 3
Triphibius No. 11 Share Posted Wednesday at 07:50 PM Merry Christmas to all, and to all Duck fans a win. I recently read an analysis at ATQ. The author compared Oregon's run defense with and without Burch. The difference was substantial. I think the trouble our guys had with outside runs against Wisconsin was partly because of his absence on the edge. I saw a replay of the game with PSU on BTN. I recall that a number of the long runs happened when our guys filled their gaps but the Lions' RBs just bounced off our linemen, who seemed strangely lacking in energy. This seems consistent with the report that several of them were sick. According to an analysis by an OSU source posted by someone here ( I cannot recall who. but thanks), Michigan was able to stop OSU's run consistently with six men in the box. The reason, said the author, was that OSU recruits lineman with an emphasis on pass blocking, which has made it hard for them to run on Michigan. According to ATQ, our defensive tackles have the highest success rates per play on the defense. Based on this, I would be inclined to emulate Michigan's approach. 2 2
SoGaDawg No. 12 Share Posted Wednesday at 08:22 PM There are too many key matchups in this game for me to attempt to state them and predict which ones will impact the game most. So I’ll just briefly name a few factors that I believe will help decide the outcome. One is the obvious, which defense can get off the field. So as 30Duck stated above, 1st and 3rd downs are key. On 1st it’s important not to get behind the sticks and potentially create 3rd and long which is an obvious passing down. However, it doesn’t matter how a defense gets off the field, so creating turnovers or even forcing FG tries could make a huge impact. One other key about getting off the field will be simply to limit missed tackles. Tackling well in space is paramount to guard against explosive plays. Another key factor will be in-game adjustments. Finding the opponents weakness and exploiting it, as well as adjusting to one’s own weaknesses. I think (hope) that CDL and Co will do well in this area and it very well could decide the outcome. Finally, I agree with Charles that pulling out all the stops will be needed. Perhaps being extra aggressive on a key play where you can create an advantage for your team could be huge. For example, in the SEC championship, the fake punt Kirby called had a tremendous impact on the game. Sometimes it’s just one play that can make all the difference. As for me, I’d like to see Oregon control the flow of the game. Limit the possessions for the Bucks all the while keeping your defense off the field and tiring out tOSU’s defense. This could pay huge dividends late in a close game. So with this, success in the running game is important. I’d love to see Gabriel contribute when possible in the running game as well bc that can make things much tougher even for the Bucks talented defense and could also be key to sustaining drives. This has all the makings of a great and close game which I’m excited about. In truth though, I’d much rather see Oregon destroy the Nuts. GO DUCKS!!! 1 1 2 1

Most people would pick DG and Oregon’s offense over Will Howard and the Buckeyes’. I’m sure that Ohio State would prefer a lower scoring, close game.

mikethehiker No. 18 Share Posted Thursday at 02:51 AM I don’t know guys. I’ve heard from 536 different sources online that Ohio State has “re-engineered” their defense since our last meeting and are doing things no one has thought of based off fan input. Maybe we should play it safe on offense and just punt.

DuckFan93 No. 20 Share Posted Thursday at 06:33 PM Can't agree more on Evan Stewart, Mr. Fishduck! Our O coaches have really seemed blind to this talent that we have. Like I said, we need to run more vertical passes instead of lateral. That will be critical to stay with tOSU as they have 2-3 talented receivers and a long-bomb thrower. I hope our D plays as aggressive as the first match-up, but the O may have to carry the day again this time around.

Also, I'm a bit skeptical that we'll see a significantly different looking team, but if we do and it's effective, I may never doubt Dan Lanning ever again . . . or Mr. Fishduck I look forward to a more involved Sadiq, and tosu having to deal with Burch. Ultimately hoping to see more pressure on the QB. tosu's QB Howard's arrogance/ego seems to outpace his talent level. I'd really like to see him picking himself up off the ground all game. 1 3 1
Mosconi No. 23 Share Posted Friday at 01:24 AM Gabriel must rush 40-50 yards for us to win, not just off broken plays but designed. His true talent in that category has not yet been revealed. Not a time to be shy. Risk everything. I think Stein has been waiting for this approach all season just for the right time. Heck, maybe 60-70 yards! 1 1
1Ducker1 No. 24 Share Posted Friday at 03:40 AM FugNut is 11-2, OBD is 13-0. Both teams played Michigan-Oregon won handily,if we were Ga. we would be favored by 10 and Lanning and his players know this. I think this will be the motivation that we need to beat the NUTS. 1 1
