GeotechDuck No. 50 Share Posted January 2 (edited) Just not quite good enough…yet again. It is very difficult being a Duck fan. I thought this team was further along and getting closer to being in position to win it all, but the game tonight was very telling. Oregon was outmatched at every position on the field. That being said, it was a fun season and a good run. I just don’t see a light at the end of the tunnel for Oregon. It is like they are destined to be the team that gets close, but can never get over the hump. Edited January 2 by GeotechDuck

Utki No. 52 Share Posted January 2 I guessed we were losing 38-27 based off of the trash D effort against PSU. So not surprised by tonight sadly. Bur going to Bball tomorrow so better days ahead.

So...just wait until next year! I've been saying "next-year" regarding Duck football & basketball for 52 years. I think I'm about done. Heck, I'm pretty sure that I'll likely expire before that mythical next-year happens.

DanLduck No. 55 Share Posted January 2 Losses are tough. This one was really tough. It's gonna be a long off season. Proud of our Ducks. But we looked out-coached. Their defense played outstanding. Ours, seemed lost and confused. Gotta keep building, keep believing. Stay strong OBD fans. Now, is it almost August yet? 1
JDuck No. 56 Share Posted January 2 Willie sorta upped recruiting, Mari a lot more...now DL and crew are at the top. Last part of the equation...can they coach them up to the Kirby/Saban level? Another year or two and we can be at that level. If they develop them. Are the X/Os adequate? Is the Stein plethora of passes that are completed behind the line of scrimmage going to get us there? Is the O-line the weak link right now? Will Dante Moore fix some of this? Talent coming in is stellar, if they grow up quick '25 could be good, '26... David Marsh No. 57 Share Posted January 2 I have absolutely zero information on this and it is pure conjecture. But it wouldn't surprise me to find out that this team had that horrid norovirus rip through the team. It's that really bad stomach bug. It's going through my family right now and though it is gone in 24-48 hours it still creates some lingering discomfort. This team just didn't play with the usual fire. And a stomach bug that knocks you in your butt would absolutely take the fight out of them. Again... I have no information about this.

OceaniaDuck No. 59 Share Posted January 2 Really proud of OBD and hat's off to a great regular season. Don't mean to be a Debbie Downer but I just hope we don't lose recruits or have some of our best players hop onto the transfer portal because of this setback. If anything, I guess DL now really knows what kind of players we need to take OBD to the promised land. Maybe offensive and defensive schemes need to be re-evaluated as well. I've heard & read, and it seems to be true that losing a game, even one like today, rarely affects recruiting, especially after they've signed.
Grandpa Duck No. 61 Share Posted January 2 I am inclined to say that there is no substitute for players who are bigger, stronger and faster. But OBD won several games this year, including one in October against tOSU, with players who were not! Obviously, today was not one of those days when the smaller, weaker and slower players prevailed. I too suspect that there may be a disease rampaging through our team. We did win the second half. But when you take the most productive receiver in the October game, Stewart, off the field at game time, the impact is more than physical.

Jon Joseph Moderator No. 63 Share Posted January 2 On 1/1/2025 at 10:11 PM, Charles Fischer said: Not for me. Being No. 1 and winning 13 games doesn't suck. Just ask Oregon State. WA$TE? Come on, Man! (Referring to the post responded to.) If nothing else, OBD held the nation's attention in the preseason through the B1G champ game. You saw two coaches today, one 34 years old and one 38 years old, being asked to do what no CFB coach has been asked to do. Sit on it for close to 30 days while your opponent plays a game in the interim and then has more than a week to prepare for its next game. Ohio State is not that much better roster-wise, coaching-wise, etc. than OBD. tOSU not only got to shake off the stuff from the Michigan loss but did it against a team that SEC-Centric folks (ESPN ) thought would put up a fight if not win. tOSU got its Mojo back while OBD was on the sidelines. ASU sat back for close to a month got punched in the mouth early and had a shot to set the standard for the 12-team PO comeback improbable victory. NFL teams miss 1 week of action. Then, the two teams with a Bye play the remaining two lowest-ranked teams. Being a No. 1 and the 2nd seed means something. HATS OFF TO OHIO STATE. 1-1 this season in the battle of the Os. OBD was pasted and plastered in the Rose Bowl but there will be many games down the road between these two teams and Dan will learn from this and at least by 2026-27 if not sooner, the PO format will not be this fracked up. GatOrlando No. 66 Share Posted January 2 I've ranted on the playoff seeding enough. What I saw tonight was one of two likely outcomes. I commented on another post where somebody had predicted a two score Oregon win. Their reasons were valid, but I don't use what ifs as variables. Oregon won by one at home in October. Ohio State was either going to start fast and win by multiple scores or they were going to lose a close one to Oregon. Ohio State has advantages like Jeremiah Smith and Caleb Downs that you just can't match. They have five stars that we don't even talk about like Carnell Tate, JT and Sonny Styles. Forget about Ebeka. I believe Oregon has the more consistent QB, better special teams and better head coach. Ohio State has a better defensive coordinator and Oregon has a better offensive coordinator. Chip Kelly just has more Aces that he can pull out regardless of scheme. I really thought Oregon was going to keep it close because the talent level was up to it and Day would choke. But A plus Ohio State came out and before Oregon knew the game had started it was over. I liked that Oregon kept playing tough but the mountain was too high. Disappointing end to a brilliant season. I don't know who I want to win it now. I can't root for Ohio State, Texas, Penn State or Georgia. Notre Dame? Lou Holtz will be insufferable.
EagleScoutJim No. 67 Share Posted January 2 I am confident that Dan’s message to the team was one of how proud he was of the effort, work ethic, brotherhood, and growth as both players and men they each demonstrated week after week this year, and that they should hold their heads high over what they achieved. i also believe that he would say that he and the coaches take full responsibility for the failures in the game today. i would agree with both. 1 1
Cacker Guy No. 68 Share Posted January 2 (edited) A few thoughts now that I've calmed down a bit: 1. Before the season I thought osu2 had scary talent, but they didn't get close to their potential until last week against Tennessee. They are tremendously talented. Howard was terrific yesterday, and QB may be one of their weaker positions. I think they steamroll anyone if they play like they did yesterday. 2. So far all three teams with a bye last week came out flat and got behind 14-0 right away. Georgia's first two possessions are not going well. I think the long layoff was an issue, though we all hate to make excuses. 3. Too bad the playoff expanded this year so osu2 got in. I think we win a four team playoff against Georgia, Texas and PSU. 4. Yeah we played poorly and got hammered and it sucks, and I am very disappointed. But I am old enough to remember when just beating the Beavers made for a successful season. Thankfully expectations have become higher. Go Ducks!
