I cannot tell you how many Duck fans expressed to me confidence in Novosad, if Dante Moore is hurt or unable to get the job done. I had that confidence as well, but Stein brings in Luke Moga as the second quarterback?

Can someone 'splain that one to me?

Quite possibly.

Novosad was listed as “questionable” on the injury report. I believe he is still QB2.

Interesting, but I don’t read a whole lot into rotations when the game is decided in the 1st quarter. I don’t think that walk-on is our third string.

Novosad doesn't have a redshirt at this point.

Novosad was also the second QB out there in week 1.

I'll trust the coaching staff on this but I'm puzzles as well.

That's kinda what I thought at first.

I just thought they were putting Moga in first and Novosad would get some reps later.

I was surprised to not see Novosad at all.

Thomas getting some reps with the 3s and 4 made sense. I wouldn't want my backup to take a hit like Thomas did. No offense to Thomas. But Thomas as a walk on has also earned some reps with his hard work and the last couple series of a blow out is absolutely the time to do it.

Northwestern and Oregon State are up next. The backups will certainly get playing time in both of those so we'll have to wait and see who gets those reps.

Just saw a report that Novosad was "questionable" for the game. Probably a little dinged up and I think he's still the clear no.2 option at QB.

But not worth risking your primary backup if he's not fully healthy.

Agreed, but these are the games to get that experience...too bad he was not available.

And with all of this concern, I think Moga could get us through some games with the first unit.

Will Stein didn't have Moga passing nearly as much after he went in, which was likely by design; allowing the O-Line to continue to dominate the line of scrimmage and get our yards on the ground. However, he looked completely poised out there, as if he already has a starter's mentality. He made checks to plays and got us in to the right runs with great efficiency; also showing off his speed once again.

Sadly, I won't be surprised at all if Novosad transfers. However, Moga already looks like a future QB1 here and the battle between he and Akili Smith Jr will be exciting to watch when Dante Moore is done in Eugene!

If Dante goes Pro and Stein gets a head coaching position, does he take Novosad with him?

In that case, we may be back to a transfer QB for 2026.

The bigger surprise to me is how Akili Smith Jr hasn't played yet. What's up with that?

Thomas likely he as a better command of the offense at this point that puts him higher in the pecking order than Smith, and they didn't get that far down the depth chart for Smith to play.

Dan Lanning has made comments to the effect that we can play winning football with Thomas. He's more than serviceable.

Take this with a grain of salt since I heard it from a guy who knows a guy, who knows....well, you get the point....Novosad has a thumb injury he is dealing with on his throwing hand.

Dan Lanning discussed Novosad's injury today.....it is a precautionary issue with his lat muscle. Could go if he had to....paraphrased.

Oregon backup QB Austin Novosad held out against Oklahoma State for ‘precautionary’ reasons

Oregon coach Dan Lanning said it was “more precautionary probably than anything” for Novosad, who has been dealing with a back injury.

“I think Austin can go, but his lat’s been bothering him a little bit,” Lanning said. “He’s been able to practice, but we’re trying to limit him and get him in position to where he can go again.”

Oregon QB Austin Novosad held out vs. Okla St for ‘precau...

Novosad was listed as questionable for last week’s game with Oklahoma State and though he warmed up and was in full pads, the redshirt sophomore did not play in the 69-3 win.

If Novo is looking at being QB1 in 2026, I don’t see him going anywhere.
