  6. Season opener, going to try to avoid being too harsh until we see Shelstad return. Glad to hear Kwame seems to be ok (it looked like a bit of a knee hyperextention which AI tells me can vary quite a bit in severity but if there isn't a lot of pain, swelling, or bruising it is a good sign, as is being able to walk on it soon after). Generally felt ok about the two new guys at forward, Pryor (6-7) and Stewart (6-9), to go along with Evans (6-10). I see Simpkins averaged 16.4 at Elon last year on 42/37/76 shooting. Clutch drive for the game winner. If he can consistently bring something similar, I'm not without optimism. Not really plays to be praising, but sort of fun to see Demir effortlessly bouncing guys around (there is a guy on Ege? Nope no more). 🙂

  10. I saw a picture of a kid in an Oregon sweatshirt on the Facebook page of my home town in Connecticut. Duck fans are everywhere. 😊
  11. I have to tell this story about the reach of Duck familiarity. Five years ago or so, my wife and I were in England, where my daughter and son-in-law were serving with the U.S. military. While we were there, we drove down to Cambridge and spent the day at the beautiful and legendary Cambridge University campus--"punted" on the Cam River, the whole nine yards. It was early June, warm and sunshiny, a bank holiday in England. We stopped for lunch at a nice restaurant with an outdoor dining area overlooking the river. There we were greeted by your classic British maitre'd--very proper, towel over his arm, white apron, portly. I had on a white Oregon baseball cap--plain white with a green "O," no other ornamentation. When we finished our lunch I went to the outdoor cash register, where the maitre'd took care of the bill. He handed me the receipt and then, just as I was about to leave, leaned over and said in my ear, "Quack ! Quack!" I almost died laughing.
  12. I am not in panic mode right now. Shelstad is going to come back and the bench will shorten over time. Simpkins ability to drive, create shots, and his mid range game look very solid. I think he will ultimately be an upgrade from Bamba. That will also create more opportunities for Shelstad when he comes back. Love what I am seeing from Stewart. Once he gets comfortable, he might be great. I could see him being better than Angel by March. Evans should make another jump and Bittle is an all conference type player. Lin is a disaster right now, but he will figure it out enough to get some solid role minutes. Seems like there is a fairly decent drop off after the top 6 or 7 guys.
  13. As a high school basketball coach, I 100% agree that there are times a coach should erupt. But to be effective, those times should be few and far between. And just as importantly, that eruption should be in the locker room behind closed doors. I don't believe that there is any benefit in publicly humiliating a player.

  15. "Ugly". Yes, and putrid, awful, gastly, gruesome, horrible, appalling...but you get my take. If not for Hawaii Also having turnoveritis and 2 of their starters fouling out, it Definitely would have been a loss...and not by just a bucket or two. Good news. First game of the season with a team that has a plethora of new players and pieces to incorporate into a functioning and fluid team. Just a "stinker" of a game or is this going to be closer to the "norm" for this group? Not a valid tourney team with the "street-ballish" performance from last night. Bad news. Obviously No Depth at point guard. Maybe after the non conference season both the point guards behind Sheldstad get more up to speed but last night? Yeesh! No point guards, no ball movement, thus "individual" basketball vs "team" basketball. Can't win consistently like that. And speaking of team basketball? Turnovvvvers, what offensive Rebounds, no THREE PT shooting (not another year of that, please!), anybody communicating? Yes. This team has a long way to go if last night was any true representation of the "team basketball" that can do damage in conference or in the dance. Hope Dana can turn em around but judging solely from last night, it will become his greatest coaching year yet! Let's go Ducks.
  16. Traeshon Holden spits in face of opponent in high profile game. More egregious than a celebration penalty. No rage display on sideline by HC. Just a different style of coaching. Some coaching styles get better results than others.
  17. I'm not so sure. The committee doesn't want egg on their faces, so I think they will give SEC type bias to their top 25 for loses to teams ahead of them. Otherwise it is almost like saying "I guess we screwed up". If we win a tight game with Iowa, depending on what other ranked teams do, they may stay in the top 25. After OBD, they travel to sc then coast with Sparty and Neb. So, lose to us and win out, they will stay in top 25. No credit if we beat Minnesota although they are on a bye and are 6-3 right now. If sc wins their next 2, then they will be in top 20 and won't fall out with a loss to us. ewe dub looks like a cakewalk till they play us (Wisc, Purdue, UCLA). So, they will be ranked both before and after even with a loss.
  18. Agreed. I wore my Ducks hat to an Ole Miss game earlier this season. Several of their fans — students mainly — gave me a “Go Ducks!”. Charles is right, they’re likely only superficially familiar with the program, but you gotta start somewhere. And at least now even casual CFB fans know how to pronounce Oregon.
  19. Looks like both football and basketball are relying on walk-ons as QB2's. Hurry back Shelstad / Dante stay upright.
  20. UT and Oklahoma's grades are puzzling. They're beneficiaries of the SEC self-licking ice cream cone.
  21. Very much so, unfortunately I don't think DA has the NIL funds to really go after the premium transfers. We also never seem to get impactful freshman even when they are 5 stars. Last year was frustrating mostly due to TJ Bamba forgetting how to shoot, if he had just shot as well as his averages from the previous 3 seasons we would have been a vastly better team. We haven't upgraded anywhere on the team, and we might have regressed in multiple spots. We don't have a good backup point guard, we don't have a dynamic wing who can light it up from deep, our backup center looked worse than Cook (it's early though). I do think we have more depth at the 4 with Evans and Stewart. We'll know a lot more after the Player's Era tourney. Auburn almost lost to Bethune-Cookman so that's something to consider when we play them in the post-Bruce Pearl era.
  22. Damn, Mike....just what I needed....a mature voice in the room. I've had SO MUCH fun with Mario over time, and really should not have enjoyed his losses as much as do, but I NEVER SAID I WAS NOBLE. You are right; we owe a lot to Mario because he took the confidence in recruiting that Taggart began, and built upon it. And yes...he did a lot of winning before things started to turn downhill in his last year, but the bottom line is I should appreciate what he gave us. And I do.... Now I go back to lampooning him! He'll Get Clock Management Figured Out...
  23. Fields was an incredible recruiting win over USC at the time... The defensive backs coach has just done an incredible job recruiting, as you DO expect to lose a No. 3 player at any position although usually they are closer to Florence's age, and not Fields. Dakota sees the future; if Fields cannot dislodge Finney or Iffy now, it will be even harder as they gain game experience. It makes retaining Devon Benjamin (below) at corner that much more important for the 2026 recruiting class. EVERY major program wanted him...look at this list and it is all the elite teams, as most analysts feel he is the best corner in the nation.
  24. Weather forecast: high 47 degrees, showers morning, rain in afternoon, wind from north end of stadium 10-20 mph In the 60's on Friday, in the 30's on Sunday, as cold front moves in Friday night. Ground and pound weather for the Hawkeyes.
  25. USA Today has grades for the committee's first ranking. OBD at No. 9 gets the committee a C. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2025/11/05/college-football-playoff-rankings-grades-snubs/87094619007/?utm_source=usatoday-sports-strada&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=usatbaseline&utm_
