  2. I guess I didn't get my wish...I want OBD to fly under the radar and just stay at #6 or drop another couple of spots--old Pac-12 rank syndrome. I want everyone to believe that OBD suck and can't win games, take them lightly, and write them off until they blow the doors out of the "ranking" systems!
  3. I guess I was in the minority. I "knew" Dante was going to be the man. After enduring the Bruin beatings, then choosing to sit behind Gabriel to learn, and having back-ups that looked "better" than him in the Spring game. I told my friends, that I grew up with from grade school, that Danté was going to be the man and they were going to be shocked! The Moore to Moore combination was going to be electric. I have not been wrong, in that regards, but I will eat crow in believing the Tosh is OBD Achilles heal.

  5. In one of my preseason articles I discussed candidates for Oregon’s new B1G Rivials, and on my list of five potential rivals, Penn State came in at No. 2. After Oregon’s 30-24 win in their house during their most celebrated tradition, it’s clear that the Oregon-Penn State rivalry is taking form. For the second time in less than a year, ... The Oregon-Penn State Rivalry is Here
  6. I found this Youtube clip of the final play of the game taken from the Duck section of the stadium. Enjoy!
  7. It's time for Duck Duck Goose Egg to be retired...
  8. I wonder when the Ducks will reach the level of physicality that they need to compete in the B1G.
  9. Fully agree with all the Harkey praise. Sure some will point out the retaliation that killed a drive, but when I rewatched the game this morning he stood out time and time again. Multiple pancakes throughout the game and dude plays with a swagger. Love the confidence.
  10. I know that Ohio State fans travel well but the amount of red in Husky Stadium on Saturday was embarrassing. This is not the visitor section… https://www.dailyuw.com/article/in-an-afternoon-full-of-disappointments-the-husky-stadium-crowd-was-one-of-the-biggest-20250928
  11. Which is why I think there needs to be a third party that looks players over because we do focus on the player receiving the blow but the player delivering the blow is also in danger.
  12. Thank you! Glad I finally got one 😁 Sorry for the late reply. I was up hiking near Mt. Jefferson. Great guess @FanGirlDuck !! So close, but I'll gladly share the glory with you. 😊 It was a smokey, but beautiful day! Go Ducks!!
  13. While the targeting call is somewhat new, they began changing this rule when I was in junior high school. Our coach announced it was no longer legal to lower our head and lead with the top of our helmet when hitting someone. We were then taught a form tackle, putting the facemask into our opponents chest while wrapping up with our arms. That was 1968. The reason was that some players were getting neck injuries when leading with the crown of the helmet. Aside: I broke my friend's ribs with a form tackle when I was in 7th grade. I'll never forget his screams of pain. I never could really hit someone hard after that. Later the son of a well known player broke his neck "spearing" an opponent, which pretty much proved the point. Now the rule is also to protect the ones being hit. This practice is dangerous and it has been for a long time! It has been very hard to get players to stop it, even with the threat of ejection from the game.
  14. In Olympic boxing the hitting surface is a different color. Maybe the "crown" of all helmets should be a different color so it's no longer up to interpretation? It seems that the reason this was not called is because as the PSU player was lowering his head to target, he made contact before his head was all the way down to make it contact with the "crown" of the helmet. Some have said it was the "hairline". I think that's probably right but this guy shaves his head, so the hair line is the crown of his helmet.
  15. I was more disappointed that Riley chose to keep a balanced attack, instead of attacking Illinois' weaker secondary. And this isn't because Indiana scorched them. USC walked themselves into too many third and medium situations that in my opinion, Illinois could handle. My philosophy is avoid third down frequently, meaning convert as many seconds downs into a fresh set of new downs as your strategy. USC did that early, then when Illinois started taking control, USC slowed the game down. USC put their very good QB in too many clutch clad situations. Those third downs should be second down situations instead. From what I'm seeing, if you don't put up 45 points, you stand a good chance of losing. That means trying to score TDs on every drive in the first half. You want your opponent chasing you "out of their game plan" because only Georgia and Ohio State seem capable of handling that kind of pressure ( yes that includes Indiana because they use RPO, which sets up their vaunted passing attack they run to set up their passing).
  16. I agree. I'm old school. I want to see football uniforms, not baseball or basketball ones. I know each era has its own style, and the kids are ok after all. I just like the era I grew up in and the few following decades. It's like everyone having all black uniforms...I hate it (and we started the trend).
  17. I've watched this like 10 times and it never gets old..
  18. Absolutely.... It needs to be broadened to forceful helmet to helmet contact. And everything else I said above.
  19. Gross time mismanagement there. They needed to run the ball once or twice to burn the clock or some timeouts. If they scored on a run play so be it... But a pass play resulted in a touchdown, which is good... But an incompletion would have meant the clock stops and no timeout needed.
  20. Ask our friend Dilly. Targeting is called as it should have been against Texas late in the Peach Bowl PO game, and it's ASU and not Texas that plays Ohio State (SIGH) in the Cotton Bowl. "Laws" that are badly written have too much grey area, and this leads to inconsistent enforcement. Different people in the review booths will interpret the 'law' differently. David Marsh is spot on. If there is no intent behind the contact, it's still the yardage and a 1st down, but the player should not be kicked out of the game and not lose more playing time in the next game.
  21. Not the Oregon game, but very funny.
  22. Thanks, great topic and contents. I don't know if anyone else watched SC at Illinois yesterday. USC scored in the last eight minutes or so to close within eight points of Illinois. SC needed to kick the extra point, score another TD, and kick the extra point to send the game into OT. Instead, SC went for two. Joel Klatt explained that this is what the analytics say you should do on the road in this situation. Secure the 2-point conversion when still seven points down. If you don't make it, you can tie the game with a two-point conversion. The analytics favor a team making one of the two attempts. SC made the two-pointer. Scored again with less than two minutes left, kicked the extra point, and went up 32-31. SC was only in the game because twice in the 4th quarter, Illinois RBs fumbled going into the end zone for a TD. The SC D that played lousy all day allowed the Illini to move into FG range. convert a walkoff FG to win 34-32. This was the sixth time in two seasons SC had a 4th quarter lead against a B1G opponent and lost. 😁 It's not always easy to watch, but I trust Dan and his 'gut' decisions. As Charles noted after OBD lost at UW in the regular season in 2023, the plays were there but the O didn't execute.
  23. He was three time zones away, didn't make the trip!!
  24. Before last night's loss in the 2nd OT, PSU had won the last six White Out games. The media often frustrates PSU's choice of its WO opponent. Last season, Penn State wanted to play Ohio State at night in a WO. Instead, Ohio State was the B1G Noon game, and UW was the WO opponent.
  25. However, in how many of those games was Penn St favored. If you are a marginal top 25 team playing a top 15 team, then 3 - 7 seems reasonable.
  26. I was thinking take the points. And still believe that was the correct call to get 2 scores up. Worked out fine. Hindsight 20 / 20
