  1. A recruit’s decision to commit comes after years of close contact with programs, long consultations with family and coaches, and lots of thought and evaluation. I really doubt that the loss of a single game is going to undo all of that.
  2. That makes no sense. Question the ceiling? The ceiling is what Mario makes it; it’s not imposed by other factors.
  3. Message boards need a breathalyzer to stop posting-while-drunk.
  4. Just honestly curious as to what you would like Mario to say after a loss. Every coach is fluent in coach-speak, and that's what we get from them all, except for maybe Mike Leach who I think is a psycho.
  5. One of the only good things about getting old is that - at least theoretically - it gives you a little perspective. So, when some commenters, who are sounding a little entitled to me (is that okay, Charles?), claim that the grass is always greener on the other side, the backup quarterback is always better than the starter, and some other coach would really turn things around, I say be careful what you wish for. Snap decisions are rarely good decisions. The Ducks are ahead of most predictions, ranked in the top 15, with a chance at the PAC championship and the Rose Bowl. Most of the other 130-odd teams in D1 wish they could say the same thing. Under Mario's reign, they've done pretty darn well. How is it that we know better than the coaches who have devoted their careers to the game, who see the players every day in practice, who have their jobs on the line every game? And, the team's success or failure has nothing to do with the fans attitude. Being "demanding" as a fan has nothing to do with anything, other than maybe making yourself more upset at a loss and a pain in the neck at home. An attitude that anything less than a natty is "unacceptable" means nothing, unless I guess if you're a booster and want to donate hundreds of thousands to the program to make a natty happen. What we fans accept or don't accept is irrelevant. So, kick the Beavers to the curb, and then beat Utah. I know I'll be watching.
  6. Cheerleaders would not be safe.
  7. I like to remind myself that sports is supposed to be fun, not a source of bitterness, anger and hate. We get to see enough of those things every day, in every way, without them filling up the sports world, too.
  8. Oregon 34-21, 1, 2, 210
  9. The USS Salt Lake City was a cruiser. The USS Oregon was a battleship. Just sayin'.
  10. I would guess that this does not endear him to his teammates, who have all been working their butts off the achieve a 9-1 season, and a top-5 ranking. They probably don't hate him for it - at this level, business is business - but I doubt there's a lot of sympathy being handed out. And, it sets a bad example of how to deal with issues. I can see why he may not be totally happy with his role, but there are more straightforward ways to hash out a problem than by posting on social media. If I were Mario I would simply ask him if he wants to leave, and if he says yes, give him a handshake and a goodbye. And a couple of words to the effect of, "You should have talked to me first, like a grown-up would".
  11. It was a low-energy amateur hour production all the way, from the video quality to the announcers. It was as if everyone involved was merely going through the motions. If there is a review of games at ESPN, this one should be given an "F".
  12. The holding was out of control. A replay show KT being held by the throat on one play.
  13. Heard Bassa’s name called.
  14. Anyone else bored by this game?
  15. Men will cry. Women will faint. Children will hide under the bed.
  16. Nervous, nervous, nervous...Oregon 41 - 24, 3, 3, 215
  17. It seems like Max Borghi has been playing since the Carter administration.
  18. Man oh man, the Ducks were the catalyst for a whole bunch of Husky doo-doo. The OC gets fired, the HC gets suspended. Prowess!
  19. “Well, apart from medicine, irrigation, health, roads, cheese and education, baths and the Circus Maximus, what have the Romans ever done for us?” - Monty Python ”What Have the Romans Ever Done For Us?”
  20. This. We don't need to know everything that goes on behind closed doors. Sometimes, only sometimes, those doors are closed for a good reason.
  21. Interesting that it was the player's own "live social media feeds" that brought Mario's remarks out in the open. It seems to me that some things need to be kept private. Will teams now have to bar players from live-streaming?
  22. Oh yeah, toketeeman, well aware that the internet never forgets. But, that remark doesn't appear to be getting traction this morning, so it may not explode. I mean, I couldn't find the quote with a cursory search, and I'm not seeing it anywhere on the usual suspects sites, so it may not become a big deal. But, I'm sure that Washington and their fans will not forget it.
  23. If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, what a jolly Christmas we'd all have.
  24. Thanks, latracey. We'll see if that quote becomes an internet sensation, or if it gets forgotten.
