  1. I just have to give props to the Photoshop work that got Lanning in a Ducks' shirt for the site background. It's really well done.
  2. Canzano is a professional pot-stirrer and click-baiter who is sometimes right, but who would rather be wrong than be ignored.
  3. Re-watching Friday Night Lights on Netflix; I forgot about the episode where Mike Leach (yes, really) appears as a crazy man at a gas station who rambles on about Coach Taylor needing to figure out how to swing his pirate sword. Leach does a convincing portrayal of a crazy man.
  4. Wait a minute...the latest received wisdom is that every coach is waiting for nothing more than a return to his alma mater. Wilcox has disrupted the narrative!
  5. Today "reports are suggesting" and "sources are saying" that Lanning (who is 35) is after Kenny Dillingham, the OC at Florida State for his OC. Dillingham is all of 31, which is not a lot older, really, than Anthony Brown. This could be the equivalent of "my buddy who knows a guy at work whose cousin says", but if it pans out, the Ducks could be a new-school, youth movement leader among coaches. There's something exciting about that, to me.
  6. He's actually at another major Washington university, one located in Seattle.
  7. Can I get an extension and post my grade in a couple of years?
  8. "We're a forward-looking operation". My favorite Chip quote of all time. Now, Oregon is again forward looking, for better or worse. Bold hire, gotta give it props.
  9. Those who know, don’t talk. Those who talk, don’t know.
  10. This idea rests on the assumption that Oregon could make a home-run hire after waiting a year. I don't know why that would be true.
  11. FYI, that Atlanta J-C article is still up on their site, without any updates or corrections.
  12. We need the tail numbers of Kilkenny's and Knight's jets; track 'em and see if anybody is taking a midnight plane to Georgia.
  13. Would think there's a whole lot of learning to do, going from a coordinator position to that of a head coach. You now run the entire program; you hire, fire and supervise a lot of people; you deal with boosters; you set the priorities; you work with the administration; you appear a lot in public; you take on a ton of responsibility. Plus, a whole lot more. Having HC experience at the D1 level would be preferable, as there would be an existing track record of how a candidate has handled all these things. People rise to new levels of responsibility all the time, but there's a lot more to being a HC than calling the plays on Saturdays.
  14. Skepticism is the order of the day.
  15. According to a Crepea "source", no one has been offered the job as of Friday afternoon.
  16. He is a candidate, but..."...his reported hiring is premature, at best..." There appears to be at least some smoke here.
  17. If you want to parse Matt Prehm's tweet, you could note that he says, "The report of Dan Lanning being hired today...". One could interpret that as meaning Dan Lanning is being hired, just not today. Or, maybe Prehm meant to put the "today" after "report", changing the meaning to Lanning not being hired. Personally, I think it's going to be Woody Hayes.
  18. It seems as if the St. Petersburg troll factory is seeking to sow disinformation on the Oregon head coaching search. Don't they have anything worse to do?
  19. Well, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution would be considered a reliable source.
  20. Everyone agrees that "the right hire" is the most important thing. The problem is that we all seem to disagree on who the right hire is.
  21. As a naysayer, I say nay to Chip. He revolutionized the game of football at Oregon and deserves everyone's thanks and respect. Since then, not much has happened to recommend him for the job. I say it's an attempt to reverse the clock, and climb into a warm bath of nostalgia.
  22. My sources (the voices in my head) are confirming that I have no idea who is going to be hired. You can book it!
  23. Wilson's recruiting is going to be missed. Look at the linebackers he brought in.
  24. Thanks, David, good story. And, here's a quaint concern: how many class credits will transfer from school to school? It seems like the transfer portal could knock back a player's degree progress. But, maybe no one cares. It really is minor league pro football with a fig leaf of education.
