  1. It would definitely be intriguing to see him come onboard...if Lanning were to mold Oregon to a sub-10 ppg super defense? Now that would be pretty awesome.
  2. For the sake of speculation though....if Oregon were to go with a first time HC hire, Lanning certainly would be a top candidate. The game against Alabama not withstanding, Georgia has had an extremely stingy defense this year...allowing only 9.5 ppg this season so far. It would also at some interesting subplots given that Oregon and Georgia play next season
  3. The only thing we can say for sure is that Oregon has been doing a good job of controlling the flow of information out of their offices, no one really knows anything....it's all rumors and conjecture until we hear it directly from Mullens' mouth.
  4. Absolutely. But I understand why he'd take it, it's another "going home" scenario since he was at Nevada for so many years previously.
  5. I'm not surprised, Oregon is in an incredibly difficult position timing-wise. It's hard enough to land the "right" candidate for a HC but trying to do it within a week is really tough, especially given the caliber coach that most people expect Oregon should be able to pull in...I would think most candidates wouldn't be able to change their professional and private lives on a dime like that very easily.
  6. If that's really the case then it has to be Chip as he's the only one that's actually taken a program to a national championship game. I don't think Wilcox or Sitake have that kind of ceiling right now.
  7. Hoke is a far better HC or position coach than a DC. That being said, I doubt he's being considered by Mullens. If he's in Eugene then he may be doing some recruiting not interviewing for anything.
  8. Maybe Joe Brady?
  9. When it comes to the mid-west and southeast? Probably not lol
  10. I would imagine that if Oregon dangled a contract similar to what they offered Mario would at least garner a look from both those guys. $8 million a year for 10 years? I'll even throw in scrubbing the toilets once a week for that salary.
  11. At least some of the state legislators (though I'm sure the school wasn't enthused with him leaving as well). Oklahoma is getting real salty with Lincoln Riley... It's pretty harmless but also a bit petty (and funny).
  12. It sounds like Dave Aranda might be the best choice for Oregon given that he's got a very recent track record of success, recruits well, and is originally from the West coast. Plus one of Lincoln Riley's worst losses has come at the hands of Aranda, so USC would be put on notice right away. The question is whether he would leave Baylor...he's voiced that he'd like to stay and Baylor said they were working on an extension for him but that was a couple weeks ago with no word of any progress. Sounds like maybe there's a slight opening there for Oregon to get at him?
  13. Joe Brady is a high risk/high reward candidate. He would definitely raise the offense profile and that comes with some attraction for recruits. The question would be can he manage his own football program competently and competitively? I'm not sure why some are anti-Tedford...overall he's a very good experienced coach and skilled at designing a good offense. The only question for him would be would his health hold up, especially with such competitive recruiting efforts nowadays.
  14. It's not unexpected. Kelvin Bank's primary recruiters were Cristobal and Mirabal.
  15. If Mullens is seriously talking with Chip, then he need a couple thing: - Hire a good director of recruiting + staff to support that - Bring in Helfrich as OC. Like him or not, Mark's high offensive IQ allowed him to modify the schemes every year to keep it effective against teams who were becoming better prepared for it.
  16. Dave Aranda would be a big get, albeit maybe not a perfect fit. He's a defense-minded coach so if he were to come to Oregon then he'd need to search for an exceptional OC as his offense typically scores around 25-30 pts a game. Plus he's expressed that he wants to stay in Baylor so it may be moot. Joe Prady would be a splashy hire, instant offense credibility comes with him...the QB and WR rooms would be ecstatic to see him. He's never been an HC before at the FBS or pro levels so it would be a question of how well he'd be able to manage an entire program. Despite what others say, Chip coming back wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. The point about the game catching up to the hurry up offense is true....however if he were to step into Oregon now, he'd be working with a roster head and shoulders above anything he's worked with previously in terms of talent. He brought enormous success with primarily 3*'s and a handful of 4*'s....what could he do with primarily 4*'s and 5*'s?
  17. Isiah Crocker taking advantage of some live game snaps. One of the few on offense that looks like he's playing with any urgency.
  18. Oregon's OL playing with no fire, almost looks like they didn't want to be there from the start of the game.
  19. It feels like the offense is deliberately tanking the game.
  20. This team as a whole just can't get it together against Utah. Too many mental lapses.
  21. What is it with special teams? They've been absolutely terrible the last few weeks.
  22. It definitely puts them in an awkward situation if he does leave. It also makes it exponentially more difficult for the new starting QB next season....having to face Georgia with only 1-2 games under your belt while learning a new offensive scheme and meshing with a new playcaller? That kind of timing is terrible...
  23. Helfrich was in a tough spot. It's difficult to recruit high quality QBs when they know they would ride the bench for however long Mariota would be there. As I recall, Oregon had multiple blue chip QBs transfer out as that was precisely the case...that basically led to a situation of needing to recruit precisely the right QB during Mariota's last year that had a high probability of panning out....not exactly easy.
  24. Some guys just want to be their own boss, I can understand that. After his mediocre tenure at Miss St., having a successful run at Akron for a few years would be his way back into the Power 5 as an HC.
  25. Moorhead is apparently the leading HC candidate for Akron. He spent a number of years there previously so it's not impossible that he would take it. His buyout is only $287k unless it's an HC gig then it's completely waived.
