"I just think the regular season and winning a conference championship matter". Fine, except Oregon went undefeated in the regular season, beating Ohio State and Michigan, won the B1G championship. Ohio State's regular season, losses to Oregon and Michigan, didn't matter at all. Think they care? Penn State lost the CCG to Oregon and was rewarded with a much easier path in the Playoffs, tripped anyway. Now the championship game will be a match-up of a team that didn't qualify for its conference championship and a team that doesn't have a conference.

Bigger DB's would definitely help. In a Bowl game especially, a rough start can be really devastating. Not playing for 3 weeks, then having your first game against a team that that demolished their opponent a week earlier is a recipe for what happened in the Rose Bowl.

Ohio State can't beat Oregon straight-up, they need a warm-up, home game first. The Buckeyes will probably wrap up this favorable format Playoff with the championship. Way to go #8.
