  1. Oregon 5, Xavier 4 at the end of 8 innings! Can the Ducks get three more outs? Closer Josh Mollerus is on the hill! ( He did) All of the Xavier runs scored started from walks...yarrg! The 10th Save of the season for Mollerus, and the 4th win of the season for Austin Anderson. Nishida went 2-4 at the plate. Shade went 2-4 as well. Drew Smith kept his hitting streak going, as he set a new program record at 19 in the Pac-12 tournament, and now has gone to 20 games in a row with a hit! Oregon used five pitchers resourcefully, and thus all could pitch again, I'm sure. Mercado 2 innings Grinsell 2 innings McShane 1.2 innings (One inning and two outs) Anderson 1.1 innings Dallas 1 inning Mollerus 1 inning It is the 38th win of the season for Oregon and they play Saturday night at 6:00 PM PST. (Winner of Illinois State and Vanderbilt)
  2. I would assume that all Pac-12 games would be with one streaming service, hence a contract with Amazon or Apple for example. You would have one service to pay for all sports, all teams, and I hope most of the games. I would like to see games on both TV and streamed for full global coverage, but I do not know if that can work. For example...today I wanted to watch the Oregon Baseball game, but would have to sign up and pay for ESPN+ at ten bucks a month. If we had our streaming contract--it would be part of that one service.
  3. How do you get football fans converted to streaming? By starting with an occasional big game they won’t want to miss. Frankly, this is part of the new entertainment world that I assume will later happen to Oregon. Like USC fans-we will not like it at first, but will adapt and ultimately prosper from it.
  4. This came from a Husky website that claims that this came from un-named scouts and coaches. There are thoughts below that are accurate, some dumb, and some wrong. Pictures are from the files of "yours-truly." Your thoughts about this article? Spring football concluded a couple of weeks ago and as we've done annually (except for a two-year break due to COVID), calls were made to coaches and scouts who attended practices at each Pac 12 school to give us their honest and candid views of the programs. Each coach and scout submitted these with the understanding that their comments would be anonymous and they had some interesting things to say about each school. Today, we continue our series with the Oregon Ducks... "What I am most interested in seeing is how Dan Lanning has grown as a head coach. He was in over his head in the Washington and Oregon State games last year toward the end of those games. Those were the most egregious games where you could see he didn't know what to do. There were plenty of times where you could say 'why isn't he calling timeout?' or 'why did they do that?' in those games. Lanning is really good at rallying his guys. He is a positive coach. He doesn't yell at his guys, he's much more of a teacher. He's got a ton of support there and they have that recruiting juggernaut going full tilt there, so they'll always have that talent there, but I just question the staff they have there. Can they develop them or do they just stay as elite high school recruits who don't do much after they get to campus?" "As Bo Nix goes, so goes the Oregon offense. If he's healthy, they'll win pretty much every game they play, but the thing is, can he stay healthy? He got hurt in that Washington game and then in the OSU game, it was obvious he was about 80% of the guy who we'd seen all season long. Another thing to think about is that he's had his two best seasons as a player under Kenny Dillingham and now he's gone. Does he mesh well with the new OC (Will Stein)? Big question mark there. During spring ball, you could see they were still sorta feeling their way through things. They're both professionals, so I think they'll get there, but how long does it take for them to really mesh? (Stein) has a great track record with QBs, so I think they'll be okay, but it's still a situation to keep an eye on." "Their running backs were ridiculous last year, but part of that was because they had a really good and experienced offensive line. They don't have that experience like they did last year. I still think their running game will be outstanding, but maybe it won't be as dynamic as it was last season. Not sure on that yet. (Stein) likes to throw the ball around and he comes up with different ways to get the ball into the hands of the playmakers, so it'll be interesting to see how they use (Bucky Irving and Noah Whittington) and if they wind up incorporating more guys into the running game. They have some talented tailbacks, but there's only one ball to go around." "Their defense was pretty bad last season. They really struggled against teams with talented passing games last season and that secondary didn't look much better in the couple of practices I was there. Now, some of that is because Nix is good and (Troy) Franklin is really talented, but still, sheesh, not really what you want to see." "A couple of new guys who really showed they were ready to make a splash were (freshman DB) Cole Martin, (redshirt linebacker) Devon Jackson and (transfer wide receiver) Tez Johnson. They need dynamic DBs in that secondary and Martin showed he could be a guy that sees a lot of time this season. Jackson flies around. I loved watching him. Instinctive guy. The coaches are really excited about Johnson. He should take some of the pressure off of Franklin." "A big key for this season will be their defense. Their offense is still going to score although they probably won't dominate up front like they did last season, so maybe they don't average 38.8 per game like they did last year, but they should still be around 35 per game. That's plenty, so it's really going to come down to getting key stops in games. Tosh Lupoi, I just don't see it. Not sure what they were thinking there (making him the defensive coordinator). I don't think he is a good schematic guy and Lanning will have to be the one who runs a lot of that side, but does that take away from him being able to focus on other things? Their front seven should be good, but they have to get a pass-rush this year and I think they feel they have the pieces to do that. We'll see." "As far as their overall season, I think they'll be a double-digit win team, but they've got some tough games. That game at (Washington) is going to be a great game and that's a tough game for them. Their defense doesn't match up well with (Washington's), so that'll be a fun game to watch in how the staffs scheme against each other. They're also at Utah and then they have USC and Oregon State at home. Those could all be losses, but I bet they win two of those. 10-2 is a good number for them. It's still a really talented team, but their coaching is 'iffy'. Give this team to a staff like Kyle Whittingham and they probably go undefeated, but he's at Utah, so we'll see. I like Lanning and think he's a guy who can be successful, but I think he needs a better staff. He's got some good coaches, but there are some important spots on the staff he needs to upgrade. I think he knows that and we'll see what happens after the season."
  5. Complete agreement! And the amount of making the Playoff ONE YEAR can finance Olympic sports for a couple of years. A lot harder to achieve in the B1G! Just ask the LA schools in a couple of years... but for now they are delighted, joyful, knowing how well this will go for them. The LA Schools are Dancing...
  6. Oregon has a chance, but a very slim one, IMHO. Vanderbilt has great pitching--always has. The Ducks will struggle to score, while I fear that our pitching will give up a bit too much without our best pitchers out with injury. Coach Waz stated yesterday that he was "unsure" about Jace Stoffal being available, although he and Isaac Ayon are listed on the group of pitchers for Oregon in the series press release. My prediction? We get to the series final and lose in the first final game. Our relief pitching surprised everyone in the Pac-12 Tournament, and were wonderful, but our starters have to be lights-out...and we just don't have that staff yet. But this is why we play the game...can our hitters get to their starters? The first game is tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM PST!
  7. Well, he’s got a good football last name, and search engines do make it easy... I have nothing else, and am not sure about his upside? But I am not a coach! 8. Mullens said he wants each year to have a strong Power-5 opponent, (Texas Tech is ranked and will be tough at home) a middling Power-5 teams such as Hawaii, Fresno State, Wyoming, etc., and a FCS opponent such as Portland State, Eastern Washington, Southern Utah, etc. As Jon wrote--Mullens said it is hard to get great team to come to Autzen. “It’s louder than any place I’ve ever been, and that includes The Swamp at Florida, The Shoe in Columbus, and Death Valley at Louisiana State. Autzen Stadium is where great teams go to die.” J. Brady McCullough, The Michigan Daily
  9. Amen David. You can build a big brand, a National Championship team in a so-so conference as Clemson did years ago when the rest of the ACC was weak. If Lanning continues to succeed and create the buzz he is--the conference we are in will not matter. And if we can get half of all the revenue from post-season bowls? We might end up making more staying the Pac-12! Hey recruits...forget the conference and look at the team you would be playing for!
  10. Unknown, as I could not find anything either. He could be a "silent" commit for either 2024 or 2025, but this whole thing would not be surprising, as it is Texas A&M and the SEC...
  11. Boy the West Coast was hosed! No Arizona State, no USC, UCLA...only five Pac-12 teams made it? The State of Oregon did well, but we all got hosed. UC Irvine went 8-1 versus the Pac-12 and was left out? EVERYBODY on the show admitted that the major metric used...the RPI, is highly flawed and needs to be changed as NCAA Basketball did with the new NET rankings. All-Time Hit Leader Tanner Smith returned for his senior season and deserved better...
  12. It is not as bad as going to No. 2 Florida, as most projections had us at. But why not in a regional of the No. 10-11-12, etc.? Because of no respect for our conference; eight SEC teams host and only ONE West Coast team hosts? Our first opponent, Xavier, is a team Oregon played at the beginning of the season and swept them four games at PK Park...
  13. I am very impressed with all the time and thought you put into this, but IMHO....and I've talked to some Notre Dame fans...I do believe they will stay independent and not link up with a conference for more games than what they do with the current ACC. They make great money now, and it will be bigger, but they also do not want to be locked into decisions they don't agree with. (This is what I was told from a philosophical and religious standpoint) It would be great if they went along--but I believe it is low probability.
  14. How did Oregon operate on the football field during WWII? I thought it would be interesting to look at that on Memorial Day, and fortunately we have a FishDuck article to turn to. Long-time history writer for FishDuck, Jim Maloney passed away in the last year, but he left us a ton of great historical articles in this section of the History of Oregon Football, in the massive Oregon Football Repository for us all to learn from. This article shares some information about Our Beloved WWII Ducks that I did not know, and I offer my gratitude to Jim again for what he gave in time/research at no charge to this site over many years. The Fighting Ducks Came Marching Home FISHDUCK.COM www.ohsu.edu Oregon's 1942 football season had turned out to be a major disappointment, finishing 2-6 with a roster that had managed to beat the eventual Rose…
  15. I saw this play in the game and wondered about diving further into it--but you have! The old offensive-lineman in me was critical of how the downfield blocking could have been better; they effectively made only one block, but the play went well. Thanks Coach!
  16. Oregon State is ranked 10th and NOT one of the 16 host sites? They got hosed—bad. No respect for their program or the conference.
  17. Pac-12: Stanford, Utah and Washington (3) Big-12: Oklahoma and Oklahoma State (2) SEC: Tennessee and Alabama (2) ACC: Florida State (1) Conference of Champions
  18. I thought in one of the many interviews coach was made reference to a nerve issue in Stoffel’s finger.
