  1. Btw, I think it's silly to infer that transfer players are not "devloped" compared to hischool recruits. New coaches teach new techniques and ideas. Players improve. Bo Nix is a perfect example. Different schemes also require player development. The only negative for me with regards to transfers is not having enough time as a fan to get to know them.
  2. Interesting way to measure transfers simply by quantity. Good teams get good talent from hischool but plucking key components, particularly for key positions should be the true measure. Would tOSU have made it without their qb transfer? Would Oregon? How many transfers were starters? That would be a good measure. Neither Colorado or Indiana went far, but both improved drastically in 1 year, and both had pretty large transfer #'s. Hischool recruits is still where it's at, but filling holes and adding key elements is the way. Clemson will adjust soon enough. Just wait and see.
  3. I agree. But Pharm ads are a large part of the total income for a network. Call it a base income. My concern is that loss could impact total net worth and reduce ability to offer large payouts for sports. I would think that the ads during the football game alone are not enough to cover the whole payout to each team (except maybe super bowl). But I'm just thinking out loud. There seems to be a lot of $$ out there to spend on CFB, at some point you think we might hit a wall, but clearly that's a long ways off.
  4. Being full share members is a necessity in my thinking. Without it could Indiana have the season they did? Unbalanced financial revenue would just continue to keep the conference teams unbalanced. The top teams always winning and bottom half never able to improve. I think rather a super league makes more sense, especially with paying players now becoming a reality. So, not wanting to be political, I have a question. We have assumed the media package in 2030 will be bigger then now. But, if pharmaceutical companies can no longer advertise on TV, that's a huge chunk of revenue that needs to be replaced. Will Fox and others be able to not only replace that but find more $$ somewhere?
  5. I lived 10 years in B.C. I love hockey (and know how to drive in the snow!) We had season tickets to the Portland Winterhawks back in the 80's for a few years. Its a game much better enjoyed in person then watching on TV. As mentioned, it's doubtful our club team will become varsity, unless special monies come in, though they do have a faithful, energetic fan base. International hockey is the best because fighting leads to ejection, so more skating, better hockey. When the USA won in 1980, I was still living in Eugene. I was so jacked! I tried to get others interested at my work, but it was a hard sell. A great memory though.
  6. $2.7M?!? How can he have an NIL value that high, and he isn't even a senior or graduated yet? Man, college football is getting expensive!
  7. Only $100!! Must have forgotten he wasn't in California.
  8. Good for him. Bad for us. Time for DL to get that notebook of names out, and find us another diamond.
  9. I don't know enough to answer this article question. But I think as this is year 4 of DL's career here, it's time to see the answer on the field. With all the turnover on this team in the past 4 years, and this year's top recruiting class, this team is all "Lanning's players". He should have the players for his scheme. And we know he can get them prepared to play. This next season should answer some questions as to whether we are developing players or just importing them.
  10. I didn't want to watch. I was too disappointed Oregon was not in it. I did watch 2nd half from curiosity. I also only watch CFB. Highlights of former Ducks in NFL, that's it. Are we watching CFB overload? Guess we'll see.
  11. CK hated stupid media questions. And there are a lot of dumb questions asked. He did famously get after a fan hassling Erin Andrews. I did think that during his tenure here, I would not like him if was the other teams coach, due to his snarkiness. He does seem to have mellowed some over the last few years.
  12. These lower numbers won't change anything most likely. That's the sad part. The competition for eyes was bigger than we think. There were Balls and Galas and other events all day. By the time the game started, we had been sitting in front of the TV for hours. I needed a walk! I also think it was too many tOSU games for the nation. Too many CFB games period. After each game, an entire fan base would turn off. Texas and Oregon fans alone would be in the millions. In previous years there were like 2 extra games at seasons end. This year more than 10! Too many except for hard core fans. But I expect they will add more games in the future, not fewer.
  13. "Once a Duck, always a Duck" I've read and heard that dozens of times about players, but not coaches? In this transfer portal era, maybe we qualify that statement somehow. "If you do well and only talk nice of us, always a Duck." For some reason we don't feel the same way about all kids who transfer out as we do for those coming in. Same with coaches. I for one agree with others about the time CK was at Oregon, electric! Exciting! Couldn't miss a single game. And those years influenced many young kids towards Oregon. And Lanning makes that influence 10X better. I will always think of CK fondly of those years, but now, he is just another coach. He doesn't draw the ire like a Day or Kiffin, but what he says is just, meh. He helped big time making Oregon football an international brand. He also helped give us our beloved Fishduck site. It was breaking down and analyzing his plays that put Fishduck on the internet map. For that alone I'm forever grateful.
  14. Money isn't enough. You still need good coaching. Good team unity. Great character, single belief in destiny. A belief in something bigger than yourself. Why wouldn't you want to be in Oregon! Great coaching! USC is not well. They are losing on every front. Mostly to Oregon! Money isn't enough. Ask Texas. Or Mississippi. Or LSU. Oregon is the place to be.
  15. Get rid of auto bids for conference Champs and you will be absolutely correct, NFL lite. However, both finals teams got the benefit of doubt by being bluebloods. How many other 2 loss teams didn't get in? Or how many lost a game to a non- fbs school and got in? The current 12 team format needs some tweaking for sure. In most sports, the playoffs make the regular season moot. Especially NHL. Only MLB and March Madness seem to have figured out how to keep the season relevant. In CFB rankings are still determined by unclear rules and good-ol-boys eye test. Too much subjectivity. Well, I still want us to win every game!
  16. Agree. It's a scam. One that ND takes to the bank every year!
  17. Maybe he's trying for a package deal, they draft Shedeur and get him too. Or he's just negotiating for more $$ to get better players. Gotta believe he is always scheming.
  18. This seems sudden and unexpected. Does anyone know why the move? Family? Money? Problems? He'd rather compete in the Big12?
  19. He is no fool. We can laugh at "living in his head rent free", but Cignetti knows that Oregon and PSU are the only teams in the way of them making playoffs. They had 2 losses this year and missed out on playoffs. He doesn't want a repeat. Good for him. I'm sure our coaching staff have already broken down game video to prepare for them as well. He knows, we'll be ready.
  20. JJ, too much common sense. It's a great idea, but since when have those in power made any decisions that make any sense other than "non". I say again, you should be the commissioner of the new super CFB league. 😉
  21. If this is upheld, there will be some major problemos! Will tOSU pay 20M+ for girls bball and softball? I have a daughter, but I think title IX is too much. There is no gender equality, only equity, it's not the same. Why do female gymnasts get more $$ then the guys?! Oy vey! August can't come soon enough!
  22. If this continues unabated, college football players will have to take a pay cut to go to the NFL!
  23. Well, we got the O-line transfer from USC, who shunned Texas. He must have read your article Darren and agreed with you. That's a good omen. Bring on the '25 season!
  24. According to reports, didn't PSU spend more $$ on NIL than Oregon?! As great as Franklin is as coach, going 1-14 in top 5 matchups is worrisome if I was a donor alumni. Maybe they're using the DC as scape goat.
