I don't think usc getting more hype helps Oregon or the left coast. Until we beat them. They have always been a media darling, prob always will. It's Hollywood baby. Perfect place for neon Dion to end up. Too many celebrities for sports pundits to rub shoulders and be seen with. Coach Lanning and his team know what good recruits want and need. As long as he does that, we continue to go good to great. Let the talking heads do their pontificating, will just win the games.

Maybe so, but being on a winning team might count for something. Finishing at Oregon didn't hurt Gonzo any. Players still want to win games. Going 2-10 might not sit well. Might the season is finally here, so let the games begin!

I never boo the opposing team running out for the game. In fact I cheer. Well below the volume I use when my Ducks run out, but loud enough. I still believe they are kids, and doing their best. And also, it's just a game. I'll even ask those around me to please refrain from booing. If not for the other team, who would we be playing? Right? In fact, I don't boo any person. I may boo a bad call by the refs, I might boo an unsportsmanlike behavior, but it isn't directed at the person. I love visiting teams. Who else are we going to beat up on.

A game in week 0 is really just another practice. And when it's against gutsy sub par talent like SJSt. you get expected results, just like we saw. Poor tackling, mixed bag results. We can't really take too much from this game, but I will say that neither their front 7 or O-line scare me much. I hope we look sharper Sat.

Because of Burch, Matayo will have an impact as a freshman. Think about it, Burch on one side, Matayo on the other, and Popo storming up the middle!! Who ya gonna double! Cuz that's what it will take. That's why I'm so glad it's just about game week! Let the D's action on the field do the talking, and we will see how quickly those negative remarks change. I agree whole heartedly with you FishDuck, coach plucked the portal perfectly to fill holes and improve the defense. And special teams also will be vastly improved. Oh let the games begin!

OK, I've gotta come clean. I don't really think we will end up 8-4. I'm just so excited about our potential that I don't want to be disappointed! I figured if I set a low bar, and we exceeded it, we'll, joy! Beating all 5 of the top 25 teams we play this year seems a tall order. On paper I think we can, but I think coach Lanning is still on a learning curve. Some of the coaching decisions last year...? Baker's comment about Nebraska having "turning it around" seems very strange to me. They've been horrible for years! I hope Dan & Co. can reel him in still. With NIL as it is, I don't know what to think about the blue-chip players... I'm glad Oregon isn't planning to get in a bidding war. Personally, I think kids who want/demand the $$ now, don't have the heart/character to do the work to develop. I too believe joining the B1G will only help us in recruiting battles.

Thats a great point. I agree completely that coaching is more than W and L's. They are developing boys to men. As I reflect on this video, the more convinced I am that it's purposeful. This was not filmed by a bystander, it was done by coach Primes staff. So that just makes me think there is more to it. As for results on the field, that includes how they play, not just W & L. Intensity, discipline, how well they support each other. Remember too, that football is inundated with military jargon and phrases that aren't literal. "Fight" for instance, "kill", "destroy" etc. I am not a supporter of his style, but I hope there is more to his training than meets the eye.

Definitely bad optics. But stupid? I am not a neon dion fan club member, but I certainly understand the value of "team" play. Being willing to give it all for your fellow teammate. Coach Lanning is attempting to develop the same type attitude, only with much different means. DL preaches/teaches family, not gang membership. Coach Sanders has shown to be quite different in many respects then what most of us here at OBD appreciate. His results on the field will be the proof of his methodology. This video was clearly shot intentionally, low angle. Was this part of Sanders crew that follows his every move? If so, he definitely was making a point he wants everyone to know, is he trying to "sell" his toughness to recruits? Colorado is the "great experiment" this year. They are doing something no one else has ever done before, build a whole new team from scratch, and be able to compete at D1 level. There is little time for development of a new culture. It has to be installed. Forced even, if necessary. I'm an old white guy. I don't pretend to have an understanding of the background that most of these young men come from. Maybe coach Prime has insights I don't have. Lastly, like all social media posts, we aren't getting the whole story. We don't see what coach has been saying all season. We don't see what he may have said as follow up in team meeting. What I do know is that every one, every team, needs an identity. And everyone responds to different types of motivation. As I said before, the proofs will be seen on the field. DS may be "stupid as a fox". And personally, I am grateful that we have coach Lanning and his staff.

Btw, another thought I had: does anyone know how many games Fox shows on a given day? In recent history, every Duck game has been televised, at least on Pac12 network if not on the others. Could we get stuck watching tOSU? Or Penn St.? Or will there be regional decisions made? Will we have to compete with the other west coast teams for tv time? I'm concerned we won't get every Duck game televised. I've become spoiled.

For me, one of the biggest unknowns is whether college football fans will follow en-masse to wherever the games are showing. I know all of us here at OBD will, but lots of $$ comes from "band wagon" fans. And regional bias plays in to that. But mostly winning does. Paying for streaming is an overt act, it takes an intentional action. When you're channel surfing and stumble upon a game you might like, that's incidental. Streaming requires intentional acts, and willingness to spend more $$. I keep reading that ESPN will be all streaming in a few years, maybe even with new ownership. Disney streaming is going up to double its intro fee, becuz they claim losing $$. With the current status of college sports, realignment, nil, transfer portal, huge salaries, long travel times for non-revenue sports, I sense a bit of negative reaction from those "band wagon" types. They may not be willing to pay up additional $ for extra tv. More and more, people are realizing they can vote with their wallets. I hope joining the B1G will not result in negative feedback for Oregon. My guess is that as we continue to win, the fans will come.

In an evaluation interview with my boss (quite a few years back), after looking over the scores I gave myself, he said, "you seem to have a higher opinion of yourself than anyone else". I knew then I wasn't getting the promotion. The Pac12 leadership group appears to have suffered from the same delusions. While the two former commissioners certainly deserve a good deal of blame, there seems to be plenty to go around. The presidents long support of Scott (with OSU & ASU leading the way) and failure to give football the attention ($$$) it deserved, was devastating. Believing their own press clippings (we're the conference of champions) didn't help either. This arrogance is almost laughable when compared to how the rest of the country and networks think of us. Being misled by USuC president is also a major cause in my book. A perfect storm of malfeasance and greed and ineptitude. I personally have one ray of light from all this. My 16 year old grandson has been a Beaver fan since he was 4 (only one in the family!) Now that they will play in separate conferences, he has agreed he will now cheer for the Ducks to win (until they play each other in a bowl). I will happily take this as a small victory for the horrible leadership and collapse of the Pac. Now let's go win this last season!

New Mexico? Air Force? Wyoming? Together with Stanford? Or Cal? Sorry, not seeing it. It does make some sense, but too much pride to make it work.

What's not to be fascinated with?! They not only rock the looks, Oregon plays a very entertaining, fun to watch brand of football. The missus and I have been blessed to do quite a bit of traveling the past 16 years, in and outside the US. We always wear Duck gear when we travel (suitcases are green with yellow ribbons attached), everywhere we go, people recognize the "O". It has been so fun to hear "go Ducks" as we walk around in some remote place far from Eugene. Yeah, the uni's are way cool!

My biggest surprise is that we on the left coast, Pac12 leadership included, did not realize just how little value we held for the rest of the country. Espn apparently is content to let Fox and others control the media here. I've heard it called "east coast bias", but it seems now to be more disdain. I would have thought someone like Kliakoff should have been able to "read the room" better. I'm also impressed that Canzano's inside guy, Bob Thompson, was so spot on with his analysis. His comments make the Pac leadership seem really inadequate.

The uncivil beavus fans can keep the "civil" war game. And paying lots of $$ is a silly idea. Maybe the pac4 can revive and gather 6 more teams. Then the Apple deal will seem worth it. In the mean time, they really are acting like a little brother.
