  1. Great take Charles. I might add to #2, PR ability, showmanship. As Darren Perkins so aptly pointed out in his article, Dan Lanning handled that game masterfully. He wasn't glib or demeaning, more like Babe Ruth stepping up to the plate and simply pointing to left field. And then smashing it there. We do have a talented coach. The fact Saban felt compelled to comment tells me st nick is worried about how quickly DL is improving. Remember, he spoke out against CK and fast, no huddle offense. Only cuz he didn't want to defend against it. DL and the Ducks are on the rise. I'm thinking NS is glad we didn't join the SEC.
  2. Just an observation, not a judgment: Dickey was already getting NIL it seems and the #1 CB at CU not playing I would assume is also getting NIL, could receiving $ before actual on-field success be a factor in their apparent lack of hard work in practice? Both coaches claim hard work is antecedent to playing time. So, if not playing, not working hard?
  3. Thanks Mike. Intense was the word I was missing to describe coach Lanning. That competitive fire, the intensity, attracts great players. I mean, many of us OBD fans were ready to suit up after watching that pregame speech. This past week reminded me a little of last year's game with UGA. CU has some great players, but not enough depth. It will be of interest to see how they recover this year, and rebuild for next year. Lanning did an amazing job retooling his roster for this year. If CU does it successfully, it will be a problem for Big12. Meanwhile, let others overlook our Ducks. Lanning will have them ready.
  4. This past weekend we learned something new about our young coach: he is quite the competitor. Oh, we knew that, or assumed it, but last Saturday, we saw that. A team on a surreal high came scuffing and swaggering into Autzen, trying to bully and intimidate players and fans alike. Acting more like a puffer fish, then anything really intimidating. Our beloved coach was ready and waiting. From allowing the cameras in the pre-game, to halftime rhetoric, to the wearing of the "Bodacious" tee post game, a well scripted message was sent to recruits and Oregon faithful (as well as those additional watchers) Oregon already is "prime time". Lanning took advantage of all the eyes watching nationally (thank you CU) for his own version of showmanship. Hard, fast, hi-scoring, take no prisoners mentality, coupled with aggressive play calling and depth on the roster. (I believe 10 true freshman played) What he showed is Oregon has a championship capable team. Now. And they're hungry and eager. And what a time to do it, in front of 10.3 million viewers. Well done coach Lanning and staff. I also like how he tried to reign himself in a little in the days following. Sat. was a good win, but the real test is down the road. It was just one game. This sat against Stanford is another great test of a different kind. Can he get our boys "up" again for a game that should be easy? So far this year, coach Lanning has had the team ready for every type of opponent, and the results have been pretty much what you would want. He is doing it so well, I'm tempted to describe his coaching as, "Bo-dacious"!
  5. I had the great fortune of being at the game in 2010. Oregon slightly hurried onto the field and quick snapped the ball causing me to stand and say, "it's a fake"! just as they snapped it. Watching on TV, it was harder to spot. Not until the punter lept up for a ball not there did I realize it was a fake. I immediately thought back to that day, jumped up and yelled, " it's a fake"! An awesome time to call that play. Like when CK called that on side kick against Stanford, same year. So I hope that bodes well for our game this sat. Go Ducks!!
  6. It is premature, and I don't want to jinx us vs Stanford. Fairly accurate take though. Should be very good game.
  7. I don't understand how the Pac12 teams have such low rated SOS rankings. 5 or 6 are in the top 25. Oregon has 5 remaining games against top 25. How are they at 99?
  8. Can't believe the hard luck on this guy. I hope he gets another year and comes back. Good kid. Hope he heals well.
  9. My opinion, not a chance. Too much negative towards the Pac from ESPN et al. West coast teams not named USuC will never get benefit of the doubt. As soon as our teams start to give each other a loss, they will sink in polls. A 1 loss SEC or B1G will always rank higher than 1 loss Pac. That's why, after this year, there won't be no Pac.
  10. An absolute must watch video. Thanks for the post!
  11. Yeah, I like not being the media favorite. I don't want players reading and believing the hype. It failed CU and USuC. Both teams thought their appearance on the field was enough. After 4 weeks of play I see our toughest games being (in order of difficulty) 1) Utah (on the road) 2) UW (on the road) 3) WSU at home 4) USuC at home 5) OSU at home (little brother with a big chip on his shoulder) All 5 are ranked top 25. None will be easy. We still need a lot of improvement. Bad penalties by CU saved offensive drives several times. Our own penalties hurt us, particularly the pre-snap ones. (I do think the refs called several questionable holding calls on WR) We are improving, but now the season is about to get real. We will face 3, probably 4, great qb's, who won't be afraid to run. Our defense will have to be sharp. QB containment, good pressure, linebackers stopping the run, and db's even better in coverage (though #5 played pretty perfect!) We have yet to play our best game. This last sat. was close, best so far, let's continue to believe we get better each week. Who ever makes it through the Pac12 this year will surely be top 4. All we need to do is keep winning. I believe, do y'all?
  12. I've had one like this for years! Cool collectors item.
  13. I hope the fans "stripe out" Autzen. That would be a better contrast to the darker uniform.
  14. So, question: Will the running back with the most colors showing on his groovy new shoes, get the most touches? Cuz he's the "hot" back.
  15. Bowl projections? After week 3? Man, someone has too much time on their hands! And next year, the Pac-2 won't place any teams. C'mon man.
  16. I don't have any idea what the answer should be on this, but I don't think a compromised deal from congress is the answer. I'm not trying to choose sides politically, but I don't have faith that either side is at all interested in what's best for college sports, or would know it if they saw it. Here's to hoping for a miracle.
  17. There has been little "talk" coming out of Boulder this week. More like a lovefest. For all his tough talk, coach Sanders ain't nobody's fool. He recognizes that though CU is improved over last year, Oregon just has "better guys", to quote one winning SEC coach. If Oregon continues to play up to their standard and not get drawn in to chippy play or retaliation, this should be a strong win. Alex, all your points were right on. Ducks need to dominate the line of scrimmage, both ways. It's time for the big boys to show they are the real "prime" beef. As a celebratory meal, we should all be devouring prime rib in one form or another!
  18. The difficult thing about sports, is you need game experience to really improve. Especially D1 qb's. They need game reps to learn how to read defenses. Being the #2 QB, it's virtually impossible to get that needed game experience. All TT can do is keep practicing hard, and be ready when his opportunity comes. He definitely has the physical tools. I hope his loyalty is rewarded.
  19. Does Bucky need more touches? Will he get more now the season is starting? I've always heard announcers say that great RB's get better as the game goes on. Maybe our platoon method is keeping Bucky from finding that rhythm. I guess we will find out over the next couple of weeks.
  20. There should not be a coaches poll. They can't watch games. There should not be any polls until at least week 5 or 6. These early polls always influence later thinking. It's a rigged system meant to help espn. But, it won't go away, so I'll enjoy being #10 for a week. How does Tenn remain higher than FL? How is FSU still at #4? I thought that the play on the field was supposed to mean something! Btw, I see our little brother losing in Pullman. They don't have the firepower to score if Martinez gets shut down.
  21. We should dominate line of scrimmage. If we can control penalties, this game shouldn't be close. CU may get some points, but the D will prevail and show up big time. Don't under estimate them though. They are all solid D1 players. Our guys just need to show the "Oregon standard" as Lanning calls it. It will be over by the 4th quarter.
  22. I think the biggest concern about coach Sanders is the way he went about changing the CU program. Coming in and telling the whole team they needed to transfer out was a bit harsh for most people. Add to that his brash style, which one either loves or hates, no middle ground, and you have lots of negative reaction. But that's his point. He wants the attention, negative or positive. It's all attention. Without a doubt, DS has changed everything about CU football. And if you're a Buff fan, it's not just all good, it's awesome. But the question I ask, is this what we want for teams in the future? A new coach comes in, kicks everyone off the team, lures in some better players and it's off to the races. Without his kid at qb, how great of a coach would he be?
  23. Beavers defensive front 7 look good. O-line struggling a bit with SDSU. QB DJU looks very pedestrian. Strong arm, yes. But accuracy, nyet. OSU definitely needs better receivers. All in all, I'm disappointed. They lose against UW, USC, Utah and us. I bet they lose to Colorado.
