  1. I agree about travel and game time being an issue. We're going to see how well our coaching staff prepares our guys for those stresses this year. This will be a real learning year for the staff. After the tOSU game, we travel every other week.
  2. Seems to my eyes that B1G refs allow alot of "contact" for DB's. Our guys better be ready to fight through holding. And yes, I think the refs in the B1G give preference to the bluebloods of the conference.
  3. We do have talented players at depth for every position. Play as many as you can. It's a long season, we'll want that experience. It has been a joy seeing seniors like Boetcher and Manning playing so well. We don't have to depend on the portal. Sco Ducks!
  4. The Civil War rivalry will never totally die. It may lay dormant for awhile, but as soon as it's scheduled, we will look forward to it. At least those of us who live in state. Beating the river rats is just too much joy to ever give up. And we all have friends, family, co-workers, etc who are die hard Beaver believers. We want those bragging rights for the year! This game went as I expected it would. I also anticipated osu fans to want the game to go away. The only thing worse then losing to your hated rival, is losing B1G! How about every 3 years or so. I expect we will have to continue to play home and away though. There is still the need to be politically correct in a small liberal state. We don't need Salem to get involved. As far as being a rivalry, you never want to lose to your little brother. And your little brother will always hate you more cuz you "own" him. But it's still a very important rivalry.
  5. This is why I hate all rankings before week 6. We don't know about this year's teams until they play some games. The preseason rankings skew everyone's opinion. And they are based on last year's play and this year's prejudice. The Georgia game just showed how hard it is to win every week. Plus UK seems to have UG number the past few years. Oregon needs to stay focused and play to their standards. MSU and UCLA look weak so we need to win big. Also, we need to start cheering B1G teams that we will play to start winning. Regardless of rankings, I'm glad our Ducks are improving each week. Peak in Nov, not Sept.
  6. The east coast and SEC bias are issues we on the "left" coast put up with every year. All we can do is keep winning. There are at least 6 remaining games against teams that should finish season above .500, they should help our cause. Early season rankings just show their bias and mean little. Unless someone above us loses, don't be surprised if we fall 1 or 2 spots after the bye. Especially if Purdue beats the Beavers.
  7. Looks like a lot of nothing. One guy acting alone. They do seem to have cash to burn over there... It could be the future...worldwide nfl lite.
  8. Sorry???! Not even. One. Little. Bit. Ever since the collapse of the Pac, all we've heard about is poor OSU. Left behind, nobody wants them. Boo hoo. If they had invested in their programs to make them relevant; if they hadn't supported the horrible Pac leadership for so long; if, if, if! They now have a home where they belong, the Pac?, a solid G5 conference. Someone we schedule for practice every year. I'm only sorry they were allowed to score at all (that 2nd score was a result of horrible roughing the passer call). No pity from this Duck fan!
  9. As awesome as it is to beat the Beavs, they really aren't that good this year. That said, the Ducks played their game, to the Oregon standard, and looked impressive. While I like DG, I think the Duck's identity is better reflected in Bryce Boetcher. Toughness. We made too many mistakes against a solid BSU team, but when it counted most, the 4th qtr, our guys gritted out a tough win. They carried that over against OSU and it looked awesome. Even our O-line looked tough against what many thought was a pretty good D after they shutout SDS. Yes, our front 4 on D can (and will) improve, but the LB's and DB's played outstanding. This was the first game DG looked equal to his press clippings. I hope that continues. He actually played with toughness. We have a bye and 2 very winnable games ahead of that date with tOSU. (BTW, doesn't UCLA look as pathetic as their coach looked at media days?!) We need to continue the upward trend of improvement. It was so nice seeing DG have all day to throw...
  10. I don't care how often we play the Beavs. Saturdays game was indicative of the direction both teams are going. It will be a blowout for years to come. I do think it will stop being yearly. And osu fans will not miss the beat down. Scheduling is a fine line, give the fans something entertaining, but not likely to give us a defeat. My thoughts about OOC games: 1. Until there is parity in # of conference games played, we need to schedule winnable games. In other words, as long as the SEC plays 8 and the B1G 9. 2. Weak OOC games provide affordable games for some people. A $30 Idaho seat is great for the whole family vs $165 for UW. 3. Even with more teams in playoff, all losses could be costly. How many 2 loss teams will there be to rank for 6 or 7 spots? Until we see the committee actually make SOS an important factor we should go for wins. 4. Finally, it will take a 3 year cycle to play every current B1G team. 6 years to get them all once in Autzen. That should give all OBD fans new teams to enjoy watching until at least a new playoff format or the next major conference realignment, whichever happens first. So let's continue to play the MWC/ Pac?/ and Big Sky.
  11. As both Idaho and Boise continue to win, our wins will look better. As we keep winning and improving we also will look better. Sept rankings are meaningless. Just win baby. Just keep winning.
  12. I have a very hard time believing that this Pac? can get more $$ without Oregon and UW or Stanford. C'mon man.
  13. I'll say this, they could have joined the MWC and been just another member. This way, they have the same teams but they feel better about themselves cuz now they are the leaders. I don't see any chance the 2 Bay area schools leave the ACC to rejoin. Nor any former to leave Big12. The Pac? is now definitely a G5 league and gives them an outsiders chance of making playoffs. I don't believe the conference winner will get an auto bid, but will certainly help towards being highest ranked G5. They still need to convince a media company to put out at least $100 M/ year. Where's that gonna come from?
  14. The point of a conference in today's world is to have something people would actually pay money for. There are no sizeable tv markets anywhere on that map. The future of college football is the joining of the best B1G teams together with the best SEC teams into a true super conference. Add ND and a few ACC teams and that's it. The remaining schools will have to scramble to make a home from the remaining ashes. With the advent of paying players now, I don't think many G5 schools will be able to keep up. And call it what you will, the Pac? is now truly a G5 conference.
  15. The announcement at this moment, prior to the instate rivalry games, is hysterical. Talk about throwing gas on the fire! Just what the Ducks and Dawgs need, a little more incentive to put on a beat down! Now I really want to see us put up at least 50! At the end of the day, this new conference of G5 teams will still need some media group to put up a lot of $$. At least a $100M/year. Most likely a streaming platform at that. Is that even likely? Whatever sympathy was left for the old P12 is gone now. No one wanted them last year, how does adding G5 schools make them more desirable. This is truly a desperate move by peops who can't accept the reality of the truth, no one wants you!
  16. I wouldn't get too excited about this just yet. Of course the OSU AD wants the game, they need to fill their little stadium. As for Mullens, what else can he say. It's bad politics to come out and say no. No reason to irritate Salem unnecessarily. And believe it or not, a lot of Oregonians like the idea. I don't see the river rats having much success down the road. Let them talk big now. I would LOVE to see our offense get their mojo going and put up 50 this week. A perfect place to get it together.
  17. Thanks for the in-season perspective Jon J. We are 2-0 and still gelling as a team. What we are seeing is our O-line and qb adapting to each other as the season begins. We didn't realize how valuable Bo was with those experienced O-line guys in his 2nd year here. We are experiencing growing pains and frustration. I don't think they are in-sync in reading the defense yet. We need Bedford and Iuli to get healthy. I do appreciate we gave up no sacks in the 2nd half. Also, our defense made key stops in the 2nd half none more important then when we punted back to them with 4:44 left in the 4th of a tied game. We forced a 3 and out and got the ball back with 3:44. That was big. I'm not wanting to be confrontational, but I am a little disappointed in the general negative response of OBD to us starting out 2-0. I thought this was a fan site. Are we only happy if we go undefeated? Every game a blow out? Apparently we too have been believing all the preseason hype! The season is young. The O-line will improve. The team will get better chemistry. Dillion Gabriel has talent, but he is not Bo Nix. Heisman? Not hardly. But 10 or 11 wins, maybe. Hang in there fellow OBD fans. Enjoy the season. We've waited a long off-season for this. They're getting better. I promise.
  18. This is why we play the games. In life, anything can happen. If you look at the game stats, and not the score, we massively outplayed them. We even had waaayy more penalties then them. We got beat by 2 well designed, well executed, well timed trick plays. And we shot ourselves in the foot time and again. I'm surprised there haven't been more comments about DL's play calling. 0 for 2 on 4th down? Fake punt? Using a pretty vanilla offensive game plan... Yes, I would have preferred a big win, but I'll take the W. It's a long season with several potential tough games. Don't sleep on Purdue or Maryland. I'm glad football is back, and I'm happy to watch them all one week at a time.
  19. Though apparently they had over 66,000 for that first game.
  20. You make a good point HDuck. Seems the same to me. Guess it wasn't good enough cuz the 1 year deal did not get a 2nd year. Apparently the Mt. West doesn't want either school. So, where do the lonely hearts clubs go to play now? Become independent? I have little sympathy.
  21. But being on the BTN means a blackout in Seattle. Nice.
  22. While comments about the O-line are deserved, I would like to remind all that Pickard is a walk-on and this was his first start. Comparing him to Pancho may not be completely fair at this point. It was good he got the reps, cuz it's gonna be a long season. It takes some time for the big guys to learn to work together. And Idaho's defense was slated to be very solid coming in to this game, and they showed it. The reality is we have a huge target on our back. We will get everybody's best effort. No team in the B1G wants us to come in and be successful right off. Idaho should get credit for playing balls out, and for giving all our "blue-chip" players a wake up call. I'm waiting to see the improvement from wk1 to wk2. Let's get er done!
  23. Well, they say the biggest improvement is from week 1 to week 2. Hang on to your hats boys, this is gonna be a fun ride, and it's just getting started.
