  1. Noah Sewell will definitely be missed as a leader but easily replaced talent-wise. I believe DL will be shooting for Noah Sewell level talent as the floor for his linebacker corps. Justin Flowe. Boy, this is one that has me scratching my head. From a leadership standpoint I guess I can see him as being missed in that role. He could definitely fire up a group with his energy alone. However, it just never seemed to click with this guy. From blown reads to over running his targets, this guy just couldn't process what the scheme asked of him. He did hit like a tank and could knock down the Jumbo-tron as long as it didn't take a step to the right. I too believe we have the talent this year just waiting to be realized when the season comes. Jordan Burch is going to force double teams that open up the LBs to do their thing. If everything clicks for Matayo this season I think we may be in for some exciting times on the defensive side of the ball.
  2. Our D keeps improving on the physicality we saw in the spring game we may just re-injure him.
  3. 23-1 in any conference is ridiculous. Watching them demolish was something else. Could be the TCU (football team) of this baseball post-season.
  4. The better question is does SDSU still want to join the Pac? They clearly are ready to make the jump to a P5 conference. But does the Pac represent a stable enough platform for them to hitch their wagon to? The lack of a media deal and the recent smoke (turning to embers) surrounding Colorado/Arizona have to give SDSU's board of regents at least a little bit of pause. What if they give notice to the MW, jump to the Pac, only to watch Colorado and Arizona bolt for the Big 12? What would a move like that do to the situation surrounding a potential move for Oregon/Washington to the BIG (which would without a doubt collapse the conference)? These are all uncertainties, of course. But that only adds to the existing uncertainty surrounding our conference. At this point, we are a hard sell to prospective candidates...
  5. The Manning Academy is proof that Ty does great in low pressure situations but clearly has issues under the lights in a game. Last year there were a couple videos of him launching 60 yarders to receivers at the camp. People that didn't know him were raving about him there. It is his game-time mental processing that is the issue. That can only be fixed with more reps until he's comfortable; or it's apparent it can't be fixed.
  6. Built like Vernon Adams. If he plays like him this team will be scary.
  7. This made me laugh heartily as it is hilariously accurate. However, it is a definite NO for me. The War On The Willamette is the only reasonable replacement. Now down to business. The Jonathan Smith take is about as far from the truth as one could get. Never, in recent memory, has a coach/Alma Mater been more suited for one another than Smith in Corvallis. The guy genuinely likes being there and building the program his way. Sure, it doesn't have UO or UW money, but as long as he keeps doing what he's doing I bet they keep finding ways to make him want to stay. The real prediction for him is what year he wins the conference. Bo Nix is not going to be Will Levis for many reasons but the main two I see separating him for that dude is his demeanor and humility. The dude is a natural leader of men, and whether he has a decent NFL career or not he will absolutely be a coach one day; and you can mark my words on that. Dillingham already considered him a coach in the huddle. Penix should go to New York in December as long as he plays like he did last year. But Bo should as well if he stays healthy and does the same. There is no reason the Heisman shouldn't go to the Pac for the second year in a row.
  8. There is another coach in the conference that does far more with less and he lives much closer to Eugene. We don't need two Jonathan Smiths in the PAC!
  9. I can remember when Pac-10/Early Pac-12 (pre Pac 12 Network) games were on shown Versus TV and Root circa 2009. As a young college student in those days, even I felt like it was a slight against the conference by having a large portion of games broadcast on these channels. The production quality was subpar and it felt second rate compared to Big 12, BIG, and SEC games being shown on ABC, ESPN, FOX. ION and CW are not going to raise the needle for viewership or give the PAC equal footing with the other Power 5 conferences. Games will be sandwiched in between episodes of Walker: Independence and The 100 (Look at the shows on both channels . The only people that will be watching games on these channels will be those of us who "have to" rather than those of us who "want to". It won't grow the brand or attract new viewers. It will unceremoniously kill it If the conference is doomed then let it die (I'd rather see Oregon play Rutgers on FOX than Cal on ION). Don't give it the Brett Favre treatment.
  10. Considering we have less than 8 months until the END of the 2023-24 football season, and zero news coming out of the Kliavkoff camp, I see every reason to at least be pessimistic about the outcome. There hasn't been a time in recent memory where a conference has taken a media rights deal down this close to the wire. This feels like the last 5 minute of the movie Draft Day. Hopefully GK has some Kevin Costner in him...
  11. How do I feel? I feel like this is college basketball anymore. There is about as much allegiance to a team as it takes for a guy to build draft stock/NIL money/court minutes. Dana Altman needs to go back to recruiting coachable talent rather than chasing high school star ratings. There is absolutely a rising correlation of star ranking to the likelihood a guy transfers; or is a one-and-done to the NBA. Unfortunately this has become the expectation rather than exception in today's college basketball. Still, I agree that this is a low-brow move.
  12. Hell, Mac Court games often felt like Big 10 games. That places was loud and shaking (sometimes unsafely so) nearly every game!
  13. Pac-12 considering Apple TV+ for football broadcast rights: Report WWW.OREGONLIVE.COM Pac-12 Commissioner George Kliavkoff could present a potential deal to member schools in the near future, according to a report. It now looks like even Amazon Prime has gotten cold, or at least lukewarm, feet in the saga of the PAC 12 media rights deal. Could a Power 5 conference truly survive by going all in on a streaming platform?
  14. If our media deal comes in at the $30 million range per school I am confident the 4 corner schools bolt. That would likely mean ESPN forced the conference to accept a relatively lowball offer coupled with whatever Amazon brings to the table. There isn't a scenario, in my opinion, where we go over $35 mil per school. We lost out on a ton of credibility when we passed on TCU, Texas, and Oklahoma. Our bargaining position is more or less doing whatever we can to stave off being poached. A "Coastal Conference" alignment with the ACC would give us the standing of highest academic prowess of any conference not named the Ivy League. It would give us east coast time slots for games and force people to watch us. If there is a lifeline floating around I believe that is the only and most lucrative option.
  15. They're probably also hoping the Pac 12 goes the way of the dinosaur so they can snag Washington and Oregon as new members for a bargain price.
  16. I don't envy the position Kliavkoff was put in having to take over after the Larry Scott debacle. But even a guy of his experience/expertise seems to be struggling mightily to get this ship righted. The networks want two Power 5 conferences to drop off and they don't care which ones go. The fact that the Big 12 raced ahead to get their deal done shows that they can see the writing on the wall. All conferences not named Big Ten or SEC are in self preservation mode, and the Pac 12 just can't seem to get enough momentum going to move the needle on a favorable deal. It feels like nearly all of our leveraging ability as a conference is gone. The Big 12 and Big Ten no longer have to hurry. They can sit back and wait for teams to jump ship and run to them. Predatory conferences can offer Pac 12 schools less money than their respective media deals but more than whatever Pac 12 deal materializes. In survival mode, who is going to turn that down? If the Big Ten offers Oregon/Washington a deal in the $40 million range they are gone and soon after the Pac 12.
  17. https://www.si.com/college/usc/football/big-12-totally-out-maneuvered-pac-12-by-getting-early-media-right-deal-done It is sure looking like the Big 12 is trying to get out ahead of the Pac 12 before attempting to poach some schools. Another report has CBS/Turner backing out of Pac 12 negotiations today as well. I sure hope we aren't watching the demise of our conference play out in real time.
  18. Bye! You want to bring that kind of baggage to our school? Nah! We're loaded at WR anyway and now better off by trimming some fat!
  19. Nix also got hurt going head first and between the tackles.
  20. I wonder where viewership is with a team like Texas Tech added to the mix as well? Would give a West Texas footprint and a decent in-state conference rivalry matchup. We don't need an even number of teams. The PAC no longer has divisions. We just need the right mix of viewership and competition.
  21. Lanning should be on a plane to Salt Lake City as soon as yesterday. Jim Harding (offensive line coach at Utah) has the line playing as a top unit in the country, and my guess is he would be in for a substantial pay bump to bring his services to Eugene.
  22. BREAKING: Oregon’s Adrian Klemm leaves Ducks to take coaching job with New England Patriots SPORTS.YAHOO.COM Per a report from ESPN's Pete Thamel, Adrian Klemm is leaving Oregon to take a new coaching job with the New England Patriots.
  23. The donors in Miami have to be looking at this like the lit fuse on a firework that just fell sideways pointing towards the rest of them. While the fire from the fuse is small, it is very visible and there is likely little anybody can do to stop it from eventually blowing up in their faces.
  24. I have witnessed some of the most entertaining and egregious Duck football "news" of all time in a bar. A guy told me once he was the uncle of Tyler Shough and that Mario Cristobal personally told him he was the second coming of Mariota. A girl told me she loved being in classes at the U of O with Justin Herbert in 2021. I asked if she meant 2019 and she said "No I only was enrolled for 2 months but I had classes with him in '21".
