Troy Franklin Announces for NFL Draft and Forgoing the Fiesta Bowl
After being snubbed on the Biletnikoff and still finishing the season as a top receiver in the nation I can't say I blame him. He owes it to himself to have the best chance possible in the draft. It would be great to see him drafted above other Biletnikoff finalists.

Transfer Portal QB Questions…
I like Ty and his development. It's obvious he's made great strides between his prior time at Oregon and this season. But has he made enough of a leap to give us confidence that he can lead this team to a B1G championship? What bothers me is the same thing another member remarked on the other day, his body language. To me he doesn't exude confidence. You can be a quiet leader and still show confidence in your abilities (Justin Herbert). Gabriel is a baller through and through. He comes across as a combination of Vernon Adams and Bo Nix. He's definitely a guy who can amp the team up when the game is on the line and get a little extra juice out of all the guys to do what's needed. If Ty can't compete at that level then we have our answer at starter. Moore seems like he's been taken down a peg or two in the arrogance category and sees the value of development. I said in an earlier post that if he was willing to swallow that pill and allow himself to be built the proper way then I think there is absolutely a place on the team for him. We wanted him to begin with.

Civil War Renewed For 2024 And Beyond
Looks like the details have been worked out to continue the Civil War for next season and beyond. With all the drama OSU has brought on this season, do we really want this going forward? https://www.si.com/college/oregon/football/oregon-vs-oregon-state-rivalry-will-continue-in-2024-and-beyond-per-report

I bet Arroyo serves more of an eye in the booth capacity on gamedays. Wouldn't surprise me of KD is calling the plays on the sidelines.

NCAA Proposes New Top-Tier Subdivision for Football
If we really want to go the NFL Lite route, then by allowing schools to directly control the NIL deals they should insert clauses that incentivize players to stay. There should be language written in that says "you get X amount as long as you are a scholarship player". The NIL deals should come with owed buy-outs should a player choose to transfer. These deals can and should be treated like contracts. If a school forks out 2-3 million for a QB just to watch him transfer a year, or even two later, then he should owe a portion back. The transfer portal era is so wildly uncontrolled and players are taking maximum advantage. There is no reason a school can't use the money in the NIL deals they are offering to their players to take advantage as well. It's only a matter of time before the legality of this is figured out.

UGA QB In The Portal
Wouldn't surprise me if Lanning liked him as an addition to the QB room for competition purposes. He is certainly lacking from an experience standpoint. But we do not need to go looking for another Bo Nix (not to mention they likely don't exist anymore). If we take a transfer it should be to raise the level of the competition in the room and hopefully allow one of our homegrown guys to rise to the top. If the guy wins it then we can be sure the offense is in good hands. P.S. It sure sounds like Kentucky is the team to beat for Vandagriff

Would You Take Shough Back?
Tyler Shough is high risk, medium reward. He has experience and decent instincts; but is cursed by the injury bug. The fibula fracture is no small injury. Why would we risk a scholarship and the threat of defections from our own team for a guy that has a higher likelihood than Bo of going down for the season? There will be plenty of experienced QBs in the portal in the offseason. Cam Ward Aidan Chiles Tyler Van Dyke (if he comes back for a season) Maalik Murphy You can't tell me a sales pitch to either of the Pac-2 QBs to come play in the B1G wouldn't be enticing.

If Chip is Fired, Could Dante Moore Be Fit For Ducks?
I watched Dante Moore play a few games this season. He honestly looks like a kid that has serious potential. Yes, some of his throws were flat and ripe for the picking; which clearly happened. But he also showed good ball placement for a true frosh. He's got good instincts. Has legs to scoot if need be as well (which is all we are asking of Bo). My hang up on him comes with whether or not he is willing to be humbled and taught the right way. Can he handle being told some of his tendencies are wrong? What is his attitude about a true QB competition? Bo came to Oregon and was basically the equivalent of a house remodel (tear down to the bones and rebuild on existing foundation). The difference is that Bo saw the need for a hard reboot and threw all ego out the window. I would like to see Oregon's coaching staff develop in-house talent over transfers any day. But there is value in transfers for pushing the competition. If this kid is willing to compete and let ego go in favor of development, I don't see why we wouldn't look at him. We wanted him in the first place.

Visiting Eugene for Game - What Else To Do?
Gateway Grill is a great place to post up and watch the earlier games of the day (lots of tvs) while throwing back some good food and drinks. Close enough to Autzen that it's a quick drive but far enough that you can usually get a seat no problem.

Here's How: Oregon CAN Lose to Cal
Not a trap game this year. Oregon has done quite well at disrupting inexperienced QBs all season (Shedeur Sanders, Bryson Barnes). This Cal offense, though RPO heavy and quick, relies heavily on their run game to set up the pass game. Just as defenses did to the fast Oregon teams of the mid-2000s, containing the run game at the line of scrimmage will be paramount. Limit Jayden Ott to 75 rush yards or less and this QB will be forced to try his luck through the air. I'll take our secondary matching up with Cal's receivers any day. We have shown the skillset to consistently rush 3 (4 maximum) while keeping a spy on the QB. If we can create containment that severely limits a QB who likes to take off with the ball, he will again be forced into passing down situations that we are starting to thrive in. I have nothing to say about our offense except if (I mean when) we go up big we need to get Bucky, Troy, and Bo out of the game!

Is the Jumbo Formation Back for the Ducks?
I really wish Stein would implement this package on manageable yardage situations as well. There are constraint plays that could be run off this formation. It forces a defense to either sell out for a strength vs. strength match-up at the LOS, which opens up a receiver, running-back, QB keeper; or attempt to play their regular 3rd-4th down coverage. Stein should love the options this play gives a smart QB like Nix This is the play I wished Oregon would have run last year against Washington. The D was showing extra men at the line and the call could have easily been made to pop Whittington outside rather than straight up the gut (where he slipped). He could have either handed the ball to him or swung a pitch to him (Like OSU did to Utah in the 4th down that went to the house). I hope Stein/Lanning re-discover the benefits of 14-J. We may need a long, time-killing drive to close a game out. This does the trick

2023 Oregon Offense Compared to Prior Years
I'd like to see comparison with time of possession and how it stacks up to the Kelly/Helfrich years. We move quickly down the field these days but its because of chunk yardage and not 18 second snap counts (though we dial up the tempo regularly). At least during Dillingham's one year we were able to control the pace of the game. Fast when needed, slow when it's to our advantage.
