  1. By the time Taggart comes back to the Power 5, football will look like it did in Starship Troopers (maybe the most ridiculous part of that movie). He might just end his career coaching Pop Warner in Alaska. He burned the equivalent of Golden Gate Bridge with that stunt he pulled on the way out of Oregon. This is not lost on ADs around the country looking to replace P5 head coaches.
  2. Harsin makes the most sense IMHO. Auburn is a meat grinder for all coaches who don't immediately place them in CFP contention. He is a great coach with about as many west coast ties as all the governors of the Pac 12 states combined. and he'd make ASU immediately dangerous again. They'd give him Jonathan Smith-style carte blanche for the football program.
  3. Kenny Dillingham is one name ASU will look at in its coaching search DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM ASU will look across the country for its next head football coach, and Oregon’s Kenny Dillingham could be among the top candidates. The coaching carousel is off and running for the year in the PAC with Arizona State looking for a new head coach. This article includes Kenny Dillingham, as it is his alma mater. Does it make sense? Avalos did it, Crist-no-ball did it. Does he become another Ducks coach to answer the call of his former school if offered?
  4. Oregon 38-31 2 TOs 2 Sacks 270 Passing
  5. If Bo does THAT and we win then our defense is clearly taking us to a Rose Bowl!
  6. BYU has always been my measuring stick for what happens at QB going forward for the season. I wanted to see the starter take care of the ball and not make huge mistakes against a Georgia team I expected we'd lose to. And then against BYU I want to see a QB who built off of Georgia and takes the next step in efficiency, accuracy, and all around performance. I think if we see Bo do bad Bo things in this game then it is time to make a change. I have seen the comments about how Ty looked robotic and lacking leadership qualities last week. Those can be developed. That'll come with comfortability in playing with the starters. Lanning needs to be ready to roll the dice.
  7. It's clear Bo thinks he as a stronger arm than he really does. Just because Justin Herbert regularly displays this nation's hypersonic missile program on Sundays doesn't mean everyone can. He is accurate and has good placement. Those need to be his focus. He needs to take what the defense gives him rather than try and force throws into rapidly deteriorating conditions.
  8. Looks like I'll be wearing my same #8 jersey two weekends in a row! A friend of mine is coming over the mountains with me and he loves the blackout games.
  9. I am trying to find any sort of update on the color scheme for the BYU game. I am assuming it will be black since BYU was originally yellow, but I am just looking for a confirmation somewhere on this.
  10. We live in Bend and I can see the smoke plume from the fire headed west. Hopefully by kick-off it'll switch directions and we can have a mostly clear game with a little bit of a breeze!
  11. We might be getting hit with the smoke from the Cedar Creek Fire. But it looks like the wind is supposed to move back to a more West to East direction later in the evening. Could be a lot like the Fresno State game.
  12. It isn't boos for a coach I am foreseeing happening. It is the frustration that fans may collectively feel seeing something NOT happen that they believe most people are wanting. I was at the Cal game and the boos happened at one point but the "Ty Thompson" chants happened in a completely different part of the game. I am a Dan Lanning supporter and stated my backing for him in the post about "our thoughts from the Georgia game now that time has passed". I just whole-heartedly believe a guy can only wait so long for his shot in college football today. I respect the hell out of Ty for staying as long as he has. Maybe he does and I have to eat this post at the end of the season. But I think he's a smart guy and seeing the writing on the wall with Dante (hopefully) coming on next year. I'll hate to see him go as much as anyone else, but I do think its an uncomfortable reality that is approaching.
  13. We are going. Gonna roast but it is what it is!
  14. I am wondering if there is an official word on the colors for the EWU game being changed to yellow on account of the heat? I have seen this pop up in threads on social media today but I have yet to see an official announcement from the athletic department.
  15. Now that the mystique of the Week One starting lineup has subsided. It appears the staff is no longer interested in hiding who get reps and how many. As of this morning's practice report, there is officially an uneven amount of reps split between Bo Nix and Ty Thompson (also Jay Butterfield). Does this officially start the transfer clock on Ty Thompson? The outward appearance seems to indicate Ty being relegated into a pure back-up spot and no longer a starting contender. The staff is not comfortable putting him out there when the starter is clearly drowning. Hell, they didn't even consider it; according to Lanning's post-game presser. If he isn't getting a chance this year who, in all seriousness, thinks he is going to wait another year for another QB competition? You may disagree but I am setting my sights on Stanford v Oregon. This is a team that, as of late, the Ducks have had a hard time putting a ton of point up against. It will be a home game, and if Bo Nix struggles, the crowd may get worked up like we did against Cal last year and start calling for a replacement. If a change isn't made, he is in the portal the following week. If Bo is good and we stack points on Stanford, it becomes apparent that Ty, yet again has no shot at starting and still goes to the portal. It is a fickle beast the college football world has become. The best we can do is try and read the tea leaves...
  16. I don't think this version of Lannings Ducks are going where we initially expected them to go. That being said, I believe he is a man willing to do whatever it takes to get an Oregon team(s) back in championship contention. He is young, though he's learned from the best. Unlike Crist-no-ball he is willing to adapt his philosophy, put the best people for the job in positions for success, and let them do their thing. It is his first head coaching gig. The stats on Kirby, Dabo and Nick in their first few seasons at their respective schools don't need to be restated (underwhelming). As long as he is willing put in the necessary time it takes to build a championship caliber team, I do believe he is going places that host playoffs. I do agree with the general sentiment on our QB situation. If Ty or Butters were good enough they'd have played. Dillingham needs to put parameters on Bo and let him play within those confines. No Hero Ball, just smart ball. Darron Thomas is always the best example when looking at someone who knew his strengths and limitations and played within them. Now let's go lay 77 on EWU.
  17. I think if we can start getting guys on the outside again; running through holes created by Tight Ends/Tackles (which we really didn't do under MC but did well under CK) we have a chance at putting some yards up on the ground. I am hoping Lanning's insight on UGA's D will give Dillingham the uneven matchups he is looking to exploit at the line.
  18. Oregon 34-31 2 TOs 3 Sacks 251 Passing Yards
  19. I believe the most important key to success in this game, or any if Oregon hopes to re-establish itself as an elite offensive unit, is a return to a TRUE spread with tempo. Ol' Crist-no-ball operated a SINO (Spead In Name Only) offense. Sure he would put 3 receivers out wide and very occasionally send a RB on a wheel route or bubble screen. But he predicated 99% of his scheme on running the ball through 2 holes (3 when Penei Sewell was here). Defensive Coordinators would dare MC to throw the ball; knowing the unlikelihood of a big shot to be taken. There would be no bewilderment as to the scheme when the WRs would spread themselves out; the same play was very likely to be called (up the middle, through the meat grinder). The excitement that came from watching Ducks teams from the 20-teens was based in the fact that CK/MH took literally nothing off the table; with regards to how they spread the ball out. CK's sole intent was to create havoc in mismatches and then re-exploit those mismatches as soon as possible; over and over until the spirit of the opposing DC was visibly shaken. This needs to be the mentality of a coach that wants to win big games and leave no doubt against lesser opponents. Dillingham seems to be saying all of the things that would excite a fan of "real" Oregon offense. The test will come in how true to these words he remains. A foot-on-the-neck mentality must be instilled in the offensive culture if Oregon is to remain a contender in ANYTHING beyond conference championships. KD doesn't have to re-write college football offensive strategy as CK did; he just needs to re-establish what worked so well. Remember, DCs all knew what Chip Kelly would do but were relatively helpless to stop the speed. Make them helpless to stop the speed again...
  20. Bo Nix may prove that he's a cut above the rest but he has not done that yet. His low 60% avg. completion rate (against SEC defenses, I'll give you that) could increase in the PAC; but is his tendency to force plays that turn into dumb interceptions going to magically disappear? He's already demonstrated it in front of Oregon cameras (Spring Game) and then very likely again last week (see Bennet Williams INT). So if the bar for our QBs is to throw as many, or less, picks as Bo does then we're giving them pretty substantial lee way. Bo Nix threw 7 INTs in his last full season, 6 before that. If we are going to assume he throws that same average this season, do you really want to just come out and call him a cut above? Thompson is unproven talent. So is Quinn Ewers even with the 5*. Lanning/Dillingham brought Nix on as proven talent but that doesn't mean he's an upgrade. He beat Bama sure, but Oregon beat Ohio St. on the road, against possibly the #1 QB to be taken off the board this year. Would you roll with Anthony Brown THIS year if he had an extra year of eligibility? Nix is solid I'm sure. But we are hoping for more I think.
  21. Steve Sarkisian has seen enough and is rolling the dice with the true freshman. Should Dan Lanning and Co. do the same here? Let the kid take his lumps but come out gun's blazing? FYI.....I say YES Quinn Ewers named starting quarterback for Texas Longhorns football WWW.ESPN.COM Quinn Ewers, who transferred to Texas from Ohio State after having not attempted a pass last season, beat out Hudson Card to be the starting quarterback for the Longhorns in 2022.
  22. So much of me wonders if Cristobal would have even made it as a head coach at Oregon; were HE the one hired to replace Helfrich after he was canned. Cristobal would have to pick a team up from the worst season in 25 years (Taggart at least did well with what he had to work with). He would have gotten an extra season with Herbert and I do not mean this in a good way. This would have been an extra season under the tutelage of a man hell-bent on making the QB a non-factor in games. I feel like after 3-4 seasons, the crowds with pitchforks would be massing at Rob Mullens doorstep demanding a change. AB had his faults, as evidenced by his prior stint at Boston College. But with an offense full of playmakers, all he had to do was get the ball to them and take care of the ball. He took care of the ball just fine but never got the opportunity to get the ball to his play makers in mismatch situations. That offense was more vanilla than a Portland State spring game and it was all MC's fault. He hired one inept OC and his next one quit. He would have gotten himself and Rob Mullens fired if he was hired as HC instead of Taggart.
  23. USC should simply be the first three letters on every list of "Over Hyped" schools every season until they make it to a conference championship with more than 5 wins! (see 2020 season).
  24. Analyst Names 5 'Overrated' College Football Teams In Preseason Top 25 Polls - AthlonSports.com | Expert Predictions, Picks, and Previews ATHLONSPORTS.COM On Monday, the Associated Press released its official Top 25 Poll. It's the last to do so of the major publications, meaning we now have a good idea of what Fox Sports and now Athlon Sports have Oregon as over rated in 2022. Looks like a combination of coaching turnover, uncertainty at QB, as well as a few other positions has given some of these news outlets a second thought about our outlook this season. I believe if we are on this list we are definitely last. We have reloaded at the necessary positions for this season; with the exception being QB (unproven product). What remains to be seen is what this coaching staff does now that the keys have been handed to them. Do we swoop down in an F-22? Or do we keep heading down Hwy 99 in the old ranch truck that Mari-0 repurposed the Ferrari into?
