  1. These reactions from fans and/or haters pretty much sum up the Men's basketball team since they got taken to the wood shed by BYU. My theory is Altman is not a great coach of big men. He has four capable 7 footers but he doesn't know how to use them or get them going. The biggest issue though is they have no natural point guard. They have three 2 guards who are trying to moonlight in a rotation as the point guard = no bueno.
  2. Yeah, I suspect the same. Well it's all speculation here for a while so I guess we just wait and see what happens.
  3. Nah I disagree. I think we lose to the Beavers this Saturday 42-38, so it makes the Pac12 FPI prediction meaningless. This team has had something happen to it. Mycah Pittman was the canary in the coal mine.
  4. Here is the perspective coming out of Florida on MC. It's been a decent 3.5 seasons with Cristobal.....not exceptional but decent. I really hope Mullens and Phil will focus on bringing in a gunslinger on the offensive side. Moorhead would fit the bill but he doesn't seem to have a lot of energy and apparently his health is an issue. I would like to see a younger gunslinger. Someone with energy and passion for scoring a lot of points per game.
  5. Hey, what can I say, I grew up in a small town in SW Oregon traveling up to Autzen periodically starting in 7th grade. Our Junior High football coach was big on getting kids on the team up to Autzen to watch games in the late 80's. The UofO cancelled my academic program after measure 5 passed in the 90's so I had to transfer from Lane Community College to Oregon State to get my desired education. So long story short is I am a Duck fan from the time I was about 5 years old, but I did attend Oregon State. My solution is to root for both teams except when they play each other at which time I always root for the Ducks. Go huskies on Friday night!!!!
  6. Best to start coming to terms with it now. There is a very high probability that Mario is gone after this season. There is just too much for him TO like about the offer that Florida is going to make. All the things Jon eluded to in his earlier post above. And the fact he was booed in Autzen is a tipping point I am afraid. I sure hope we can bring in a great offensive mind to replace him. Someone who is willing to take some big risks and sling the ball around the field. Perhaps Joe Moorhead?????????????
  7. Yes, I am definitely rooting for the huskies over the cougs because my second favorite team is the Beavers. Hopefully the Ducks can take the game against the Beavers Saturday, but if not then I would still be pretty stoked watching the Beavers in the Pac12 championship game. They might have a better shot at actually winning that game considering they already beat Utah once this season.
  8. It's either hidden or doesn't exist. What a bummer. I thought Altman was going to be putting a great team together again, but there is no way this team is going to compete this year. A major down year for Oregon Basketball it looks like......particularly mens, but the women's team is not up to standards either. They have scored 49/50 points in three of their last 4 games......what?????? They looked great out of the gates but I guess that was really inferior competition or something.
  9. Wow, this is the worst Ducks basketball team we have seen in a long long time. Altman has never had to deal with what he has on his hands right now. They have no point guard. You can't compete without a decent point guard and there is no one on the roster who can fill that role. It would be best to go with Gabe Reichle as the starting point guard based on what I have seen so far. This is a team that will not make the tourney for the first time since I can't remember. Lost by 32 to BYU only scoring 49 points, and then they come back and lose by 12 to St. Mary's only scoring 50 points.Really.....the BYU and St. Mary's programs are better than a Dana Altman coached Oregon Ducks team? Whiskey.....Tango.......Foxtrot!
  10. The history is there regarding the trophy exchange.....Playtypus Bowl makes a lot of sense to me. It's quirky......much like the state of Oregon. For the record I do not support Canzano's idea though. While I do like the idea of players getting paid, I don't like the corporate sponsorship on the rivalry name. That should come from tradition between the universities.
  11. Great to see Altman play multiple big guys at the same time. Bittle can play more as a 4 so it opens up a lot of possibilities. With that kind of size the Ducks can really control the boards a lot better and be imposing on defense. You could see both of these aspects of the game improve tremendously by playing Bittle and Dante, Johnson and Kepnang etc. etc. Johnson was really surprising with some of his offensive moves and hustle he showed. Bittle disrupted several shots. I hope Altman will continue to show some confidence in his bigs and let them play and work into a rhythm.
  12. No chance the coach will be fired, so even though some might mumble it or think it it's not going to happen. The bigger fear is the last statement coupled with the big payout and the chance for Mario to really recruit big at a school like Florida, LSU, Miami etc.
  13. I don't know. The defense has been suspect too. They were very suspect last night as Utah ran for over 200 yards and pretty much man handled our front 7. Utah has looked like the better team for several weeks. Last night they simply proved they were the better team in all facets of the game.
  14. Yikes! With Florida and possibly The U job both opening the chances are even higher that Cristobal packs up at the end of this season and moves back to the climate he is accustomed to.
  15. Thanks for asking Dude. I also have some friends who are curious. Talk about the state of Utah owning the state of Oregon this past week.......sheesh...."it's embarrassing" as the Dana Altman quote goes.
  16. I think there is absolutely zero chance that Mullens fires Cristobal. That would be completely asinine and foolish. The admin will more likely try to offer him something around 6-7 million per year to keep him, but it won't be enough. The reason Cristobal won't be coaching the Ducks next season is due to the crazy offers he is likely to receive over the next couple of months. I believe a few teams will make an offer similar to the one MSU offered Mel. One of these big named schools is going to make him an offer he can't refuse, and the potential for Cristobal to work within a true hot bed for recruiting will be tough to pass up because the success in recruiting he is likely to have will be off the charts compared to what he has been able to do at Oregon. Cristobal at LSU is a scary thought for Bama, Georgia, Clemson etc. As I mentioned earlier, I also think the booing shook Cristobal and that will be all it will take for him to be like "forget it I am out of here" without feeling really bad about it. So the booing will kind of act as catalyst to remove some of Mario's sincere loyalty I believe he carries as part of his personality.
  17. I am surprised that the tie breaker goes to the better division record second instead of the overall record, which would of obviously favored us. Yep, looks like Wazzu has an inside track right now, because the chance we win against the Beavers is very slim in my mind. I agree with toketeeman that if we lose to the Beav's then the meaningless bowl game we go to will be Cristobal's last game coaching the Ducks.
  18. This game is summed up with two words "bonehead plays". How many times were perfectly effective drives totally derailed by stupid penalties such as illegal motion or a lineman blocking too far downfield etc. etc. The offensive lineman have made more penalties this year than I ever remember. These untimely penalties were usually followed by another bonehead play like a sack where no one even touches the QB or a complete collapse of protection on the O line leading to a bad pass, ineffective scramble and/or dump off 10-15 yards short of the line to gain for a first down on 3rd and infinity. The coaching facilitated bonehead plays time and time again. When are we going to learn ball and clock management at the end of halves and games???? How long has this been a systemic problem in this program? Three guesses......as long as Cristobal has been coaching here. Back to the drawing board.
  19. The tiebreaker is confusing. Anybody on here have an interpretation of what would happen if the Beavers win next Saturday and the Cougars also win. These are the most likely outcomes to me at this point based on what I saw on the field from the Ducks, Beavers, Huskies and Cougars this past weekend. I am a little concerned that Mario may be losing this team......losing the locker room. Was Mycah Pittman just the first straw to fall on the camel's back and many more will eventually fall? A lot of arguing amongst team members last night. My prediction is Mario Cristobal will not be the head coach of the Oregon Ducks next season, though not by our schools choice, but because he will be given an offer he can't refuse from some other program (Florida, Miami, LSU, USC etc.). The combination of how this season ends (potentially 3 straight losses) and the fans and players griping will have Cristobal reconsidering his loyalty. In fact after the booing in Autzen my guess is he is already reconsidering it.
  20. Wow! The wood shed sucks and the state of Utah took us out to it twice in the same week. What can you say.....we were beaten in every aspect of the game, out-coached and just made to look the fool. MC will need to pull a rabbit out of a hat to beat the Beavers next weekend. What a fall it would be to go from being playoff bound in the second to last week to maybe what........a Holiday Bowl if the Beavers own us next week.
  21. As went BYU vs. the Ducks mens BBall team on Tuesday night........so go the Utes tonight versus the football team. Just running the University of Oregon off the court and field this week.
  22. I am going to change my prediction. IF we make it to the Pac 12 championship game and I think it's a big IF considering I expect the Beavers to win next week.....but if we do then I no longer think we will be able to beat this Utah team like I predicted in the game prediction thread earlier. They are simply a better team than the Ducks at this point in the season. Better QB, better running backs, better defense, better special teams.
  23. Raise your hand if you saw this coming = The fact is we have been playing on borrowed time and it was only a matter of time till we got blown off the field. Turns out it was tonight.
  24. Yeah, after that basketball game earlier this week I was thinking "the state of Utah is going to extract a pound of flesh from the state of Oregon this week".
  25. Wow! Utah off to a 5/6 start on 3rd down. 3rd down defense has been the achilles heel of Oregon football for sooooo long it seems.
