Omigosh! A Transfer QB Visited Oregon? Hicks Momentum Building?
A lot of moving pieces going into the early signing day. Kind of a sports soap opera going on right now. Who can lure away the eligible player from that seemingly strong relationship with another team. NIL considerations certainly muddy the water. Looks like the Ducks are being competitive coming down the stretch.

Building Lanning’s Defense: The Linebackers
I agree that the line backers will need to be agile and fast. They need to attack RBs and drop into pass coverage. However, They shouldn’t shoulder the blame for our defensive issues. A Georgia type defense is predicated on pressuring the QB fast and often. A DL that can consistently bust up an OL and get into the backfield is really a game changer on defense, and is where Georgia shines. We all know that pressure on the QB forces quick decisions. If defensive backs are also constantly changing defensive looks it becomes very difficult for QBs to get into a rhythm and thrive. The DL is the foundation of the defense. They will need to get better before our defense starts to look like Georgia’s defense.

HUGE Final Recruiting Weekend: Big Fish, Big Swings, BIG Closer...
It’s good to have a recruiting wish list of top players. Even better when those players have us on their wish list.

Time to Put on Our Big Boy Pants
Revenue sharing has to appeal to all conference members. Negotiating for a bigger slice of the pie sounds great for Oregon, but how does that keep a struggling conference intact? Every conference member has athletic budgets to worry about. The spiraling payout to coaching staffs alone is getting absurd. TV revenue drives the bus, and the networks that are involved with college sports have changed the face of college sports forever. It is unfortunate that is our reality.

Late-Season Learning Lumps With Lanning and Lupoi
Good article. Errors on offense, special teams, and defense lost this game. Kind of a total team effort for this one. I agree that the team thought the game was in the bag, and then it wasn’t. The defense certainly contributed to the loss, but I have a tough time pinning this solely on them. The assessment of Dan Lanning regarding his coaching staff matters, but he should not throw any coordinator under the bus publicly. Tough loss for the team, coaches, and fans. Time will tell if Dan Lanning learns a valuable lesson and continues to be a rising star as our head coach.

People are Pretty Selfish: Should I Continue the OBD Forum?
The Forum with Decorum. Anytime anybody enforces rules there will be issues at some point. I look back at little league baseball games as a kid and the arguments from parents sitting in the the stands with the teenage volunteer umpires. Adults acting less mature than their children, and many times embarrassing their kids who are just trying to play a game. Winning an argument does not mean you are a winner in most circumstances. Minimizing the headaches and time that it takes to ascertain whether there is a rules infraction is perfectly fine. We all have 24 hours in a day and actually have other worries in life to deal with. Charles, thank you, and I hope the frustration of losing connections with people that were friends subsides.

Bowl Game Question: More Important to Go For Win With Nix OR See What Ty Thompson Has to Offer?
Has TT even led the team to one first down?
-
What Makes a Game Meaningful?
I suppose the answer needs to come from the players opting out. Each player on the field is one play away from a potential injury requiring rehab. I suppose the Bowl games on New Year’s Day and after are the more meaningful ones. It would be interesting to hear what some current NFL players would say about this subject.

Deion is Stirring it Up in Colorado
My take is that this is the “I am the new sheriff in town” speech. Deion, of all people, knows that this will hit the internet. He is not shy of the publicity. It is one way to get out the message that there are opportunities for transfers on his team. However, he needs more than just his son transferring to improve Colorado football.

Oregon’s 2023 Defense Rebuild: Look to the Portal!
Improving a defense that was ranked so poorly should not require a huge uptick in talent. The portal will certainly provide a means to replace players that are leaving. Overall, I am not concerned about the players we have on defense. A bigger concern would be that the problem actually is a coaching issue. Would rookie head coach DL assess the problem correctly and replace someone he just hired? I don’t pretend to be able to assess talent of players, or coaches. However, i know a good one when i see one. Right now the coaches have the ball and we will see what happens next.

Tis The Season.....of Cheer!
If I were grading DL I would give him a solid “B” for this season. The potential for an “A” was within grasp, and an important lesson should have been learned. Clock/game management improved for most of the games. The Offense was good enough to win 11 games. Thank you, Bo Nix. Recruiting for our first time head coach is solid. The ceiling for the coach and staff appears to be high.

Is a "Bandwagon" Fan Still an Oregon Fan?
Fans don’t bail when the times aren’t so great. There are people that will follow if the team is doing well. However, fans are there through the good and bad times.

Offering Perspective on a Difficult Loss
Football is an emotional experience for fans. There are highs and lows. However, life experience will definitely put into perspective the importance of winning or losing a football game.

Dilly's ASU Decision was Rash....Like His Coaching?
Ready, or not, Dillingham has left the building. He will find it tough sledding in Tempe for a number of reasons. His long term success depends on whether he can recruit solid assistants and players, then manage both effectively. ASU has seven 3* commits. Zero OL, Or DL commits…just weeks before the early signing. The transfer portal is the only thing that could save him. Good Luck

Always been a cup half-full guy myself. It has served me well in business and life. Move forward with an eye on the goal, and find a punter.

Oregon Ducks Football: New Rivalry Game Name
Make it simple and PC. Can’t offend anyone these days, so call it the Oregon Cup/ Salmon Cup / Sasquatch Cup / Trails End Cup, etc. The main problem is that nobody wants to make the decision. Doesn’t have to be a “cutesy type” name. Changes took place because individuals interpreted the name differently than I ever did. Time to move on and play the game formerly known as the Civil War.

Lanning Plays With Fire, Duck Fans Get Burned
Nobody likes to lose. However, as a fan I don’t feel burned by DL and his staff. As a matter of fact they have breathed life back into a program that wanted Justin Wilcox as HC. Not to throw water on JW abilities, but this staff can recruit circles around JW and his staff. To consistently compete at a top level you need to recruit at a top level. The staff is trusting the players to execute plays and the football is fun again for both players and fans. As a fan I don’t want to lose any games. However, I do know that individuals (players and coaches) make mistakes during games, and you try to overcome those mistakes as a team. Sometimes the team doesn’t overcome those mistakes.

Talk About an Ugly Win
The second half of play was such a rollercoaster ride of emotions for both players and fans. There were OMG I can’t believe what just happened moments, and then, OMG our defense is going to win this for us moments. The team hobbled by injuries, pulled out the win against a team that easily dismantled our offensive scheme last year. The players deserve applause for this one.

Focusing Forward. One More Big One Left to Go.
An immobile Nix creates issues. The mud rats defense is solid and it will take a solid performance from our RBs and receivers to keep them off balance. If our defense can get to their QB, then I think the Ducks will prevail. Then they need to get healthier before the PAC 12 championship.

I Am Too SHOCKED to Be Angry...
There are always moments when you think uh oh….without pointing to one play, it really was due to our sluggish start and their ability to move the ball. Disappointed to watch OBD lose a game that they could have won. Not the first, and certainly won’t be the last. What they do after this disappointing loss will define their season.

Travis Dye Injured, Season-Ending
From a few responses on the article it sounds like a really bad injury. For a running back that perhaps had NFL aspirations that is devastating. Wish him well.

Washington Men are NOT Championship Grade...
Funny, that whole superiority complex thing they have must be learned behavior. Perhaps incoming freshmen are required to attend workshops on how to fake superiority. The Oregon State male rodents have more NATIONAL championships than the U Dud Man pups.

Ball Security: Ducks No. 2 in the Nation
Ball security when handling the ball is such a vital part of the game. With as many times that we run during games I have to tip my cap to Coach Locklyn and all others involved. Team Fumbles per game…Top Ten 1) Minn. .4 2) Oregon. .5 3) Troy. .5 4) tOSU. .6 5) Cal. .6 5) GA Southern. .6 5) Tulane. .6 5) Ariz St. .6 9) Texas. .7 10) San Jose St. .7

The Bad Luck and Good Luck for Oregon Targeting the Playoff This Year
No matter what happens with the CFP, I know that hiring DL and staff reignited Duck football. That flame was going out and these guys brought diesel, with a little gas added to give it some punch, and threw it onto a program just in the nick of time. A good season, could rival one of our best. Totally unexpected.
