I love how they have SC already penciled in as conference champs even though they haven't done anything yet on the field. I still don't think any of us can quite grasp the potential magnitude of the Lanning hire. While's focusing on putting together a defensive plan to win a national championship he has also been putting together an impressive coaching staff, keeping guys from on the team that were thinking of heading out and communicating with recruits to keep them from signing elsewhere. In a few weeks, he'll be completely locked in on the Ducks and have a top notch staff assembled as he reals in the fence sitting commits and portal guys while possibly sporting some championship bling. USC should be very worried about what is going on up in Eugene.

Maybe he'll start the game off with two timeouts to not make Mario look bad.

Even a Bad Bo is a Good Sign For our Ducks!
The Kamikaze Kid replied to Handy Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Bo creates a good base line for the Ducks. They now know that they have a competent QB that's familiar with the offense. If none of the young QBs can beat him out of the starting spot then we have made an upgrade at a critical position. If Someone does beat him out, then we have an even better starter with a solid back up. If someone transfers because they lack the confidence to beat him out what have we really lost. It all seems good to me. -
Recruiting War: Lanning vs. Cristobal
The Kamikaze Kid replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
By all means keep feeling thrilled with your new coach but you may want to pay closer attention to the fact that after four years of Mario ball, there aren't that many folks around here that are sad that he's gone. Great recruiter but way to stubborn and self assured to learn from his many coaching mistakes. -
Recruiting War: Lanning vs. Cristobal

We're happy to get a coach that can recruit. You're happy to get a recruiter that doesn't know Xs from Os. -
Wonder how many of those 4/5 star Georgia second Stringers are eyeing these opening slots.

Remember back in the Chip Kelly days when we'd be all excited about some super stud receiver or defensive end about to sign only to flip last second to USC? Didn't really matter then, won't really matter now.

Recruiting War: Lanning vs. Cristobal
The Kamikaze Kid replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Yes, both Gators and Hurricanes will return to dominance, just not how they expect. -
Losing a few of guys loyal to the old regime is inevitable. The good news is the new coach is the best subplot to the playoffs for the next few weeks. While the new staff starts taking shape expect some great interviews with Lanning being broadcast into every recruit in the country's living room about loyalty to the players and the integrity to finish what you started. This may be the best recruiting/ portal opportunity the UO has had in ages. Expect Lanning's gravitational pull to be felt in February.

Short term Mario: Physicality blah blah blah. Long term Lanning: Player development, on field results.- 66 replies

Who is Morgan Malchow and why it's Great That he's at Oregon
The Kamikaze Kid replied to 30Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Now I'm wondering if the conservative bend don't break D was Mario's plan as well. I don't recall DeRuyter's Cal defenses being that soft. That team had way too many great players at all levels to be so bad on third downs all year against everybody. -
ONLY IN MY DREAMS - IF THE NCAA RAN THE CFB PLAYOFF
The Kamikaze Kid replied to Jon Joseph's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Throw in a couple NIT levels to this and 48 teams could have a playoff experience. Put the first two rounds at upper seeded home games and the second two rounds at bowl venues and the money flows for everybody. -
Oregon's record this year had less to do with Mario's coaching than it did with Dye consistently turning five yard loses into five yard gains. I haven't seen a running back have to juke, evade and power forward for yardage like that since Barry Sanders. The Ducks wouldn't have broken .500 this year without him.

The biggest story in UO recruiting will be who does or doesn't sign early with other teams. Seems like DL has reached out to the group and has asked them to at least wait until he can show them his coaching staff, game plan for the future and how they play a part of the vision. Seems like most haven;t signed elsewhere yet so I'd call that a success so far.

If DL has no film on his young QBs, how can he not grab an experienced QB in the portal?

Now I wonder if Moorhead opens up the offense full throttle at the Alamo just to revive his reputation as an offensive wiz. -

Also if Mario stayed, we'd be stuck forking out 8 mil a year to watch players leave the team and his brand of snooze ball. Thank you Miami! -

It's almost surprising how not surprising his explanation is. I think if Mario had stayed, there would have been an exodus of offensive players.
