Finally! Matayo Uiagalelei Gets 5-Stars on Rivals
JDuck replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Oh will Charles ever be so happy! -
Yeah no surprise, I too am only surprised he didn't leave earlier. Seems like a good kid, was a 4* but just never seemed to get on the field. There are more coming I suspect, getting to 85 won't be a problem. Lanning and staff will get us some great players. Excited for year 2.

I will say, in a couple years could Lanning vs Kirby Smart his old boss and defensive mentor...be meeting in the finals a la Bama vs Clemson year after year? The recruiting has me intrigued--and more excited than ever before--as well. Let see if they can develop the players, unify the team, and pull out some epic X's and O's on game day.

AP Top 25: Ducks End Season at No. 15

AP Top 25: Ducks End Season at No. 15
JDuck replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Pretty fair, I think tOSU would destroy TCU fwiw. Did anyone see that article about how 2021 had a record number of teams in the pre-season top-25 that didn't finish in the top 25? 15 teams I think? Then, 2022...beat it by one (16 teams?). Too many of us will click on stuff all winter spring and summer because we love college football, but I still vote for no polls until week 5. At least with a playoff committee the right teams probably get in most of the time, whereas the BCMess often formulated bias caused by a team being higher ranked in August (or more specifically, lower) than when it counted in December. A lot of these "way too early" polls are predicated too much on how things ended this year...some right, some way off. We win the Pac at 12-1 or 13-0 and we are probably in...just fix that D and keep the offense rolling! Bo for Heismann '23, GO DUCKS -

GA was a point shy of covering the over/under by themselves??? -
LOOK at this List of 2023 Pac-12 Quarterbacks!

No repeat Heismann, Nix wins it -
We just need to go into SLC and get good pressure on him, stop the run, and quiet the crowd with a Heismann-surging Nix when we play them.

How Dan Lanning Will Trim the Football Roster to 85

The coaches know the rules, surely they have a plan, it will be just fine this fall. -

Hard to win a basketball game when you can't shoot and can't pass, and can't rebound. -
Ducks Targeting Kentucky DL Justin Rogers in Transfer Portal
JDuck replied to Tandaian's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Looks like he'd have 3 years to play 2. I guess we load up on the D Line and the guys who make the 2-deep stay and maybe others transfer out unless they are younger and project to play more the next year? I suppose we'd have a pretty awesome D Line in that case, all these big recruits and transfers...earn it on the field. We certainly need a drastically better pass rush, especially if the strategy is to rush just 4 most of the time and go Cover 2. As David Marsh's article today points out, that alone could make a HUGE difference. Having high level guys to do it is why it worked at Georgia last year, Lanning's D there was historically good... -
Building Lanning’s Defense: Off-Season Problems to Fix
JDuck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The comparison to the beavers is a good one, their head coach is an offensive guy, his defensive assistants must be pretty good. They have recruited only a couple of players above the 3 star level going back years. We have far superior talent, so it must have something to do with coaching and player development. Mari showed over 4 years very little of the latter except with the O-line. Lanning just needs a year or two and recruiting his guys. As someone said above, Rome was not built in a day and I agree, and expect a big improvement on D in 2023! -
Go Longhorns! All I'm going to say

Matt Powledge Named New Baylor Defensive Coordinator
JDuck replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Lanning will hopefully find another top notch recruiter to fill this void at Oregon yet again...hopefully, and perhaps more importantly, a really good coach at developing players for their position. -

Does not appear we have the capability to throw the ball DOWN the field, only sideways or backward...no reason for UNC not to load up against the run -

So much for winning the middle 8 -
These things are always just a copy if THIS year. Next year will look way different in the end, just like the AP and every other poll. Polls should be banned until week 6. At least the playoff committee (and a 12 team playoff) takes some of the early bias out

Scholarship Numbers: How Many Need to Leave?
JDuck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Huh? I guess he doesn't need the $, has his bachelor's done, probably well into his masters. NIL probably keeps him and his wife supported for now. Remember when Magic Johnson took a big cut to open cap space to make a better team? Unselfish. He had do much endorsement money money it certainly didn't matter. -
Scholarship Numbers: How Many Need to Leave?

All 3 specialists were PWOs, they have to know several more will hit the portal, there could be a medical retirement in there...they get to keep scholarships until graduation but doesn't count against the 85. These guys make large salaries so I bet they've thought about it...fun to speculate I guess -
John Boyett was also a 3*, and who was the guy he took over for that got injured? He was NFL too I think?
