  1. The defense this year was mostly good against the run, especially interior running (OSU game was the exception, not the rule). Where we failed was the edge, and pass coverage. Totally agree that a better pass rush would have helped the pass coverage. You simply can't cover D1 receivers for more than 3-4 seconds and not get burned way too often. But we were getting burned more quickly. I wondered often why Flowe and Sewell were not used on blitzes way more often. Just an observation from a rank amature, but they certainly weren't helping that much in pass coverage, why not see if we could get a few more sacks out of them. We just got potentially a very good one transferring from Iowa and actually have a pretty solid group coming back, even without Flowe and Sewell.
  2. There is definitely room here for a very good class without Moore, but I think Oregon is still in good shape with him. There was a reason Ohio State swooped in and got the Huskie recruit and stopped trying on Moore. I'm still not convinced Nix is coming back. I think he needs a great showing in the bowl game to get the taste of the Washington and OSU losses out of people's mouths. He needs to show again that uninjured he can play at the next level. A 4 touchdown, 300 yard passing, 100 yard rushing game or something impressive anyway, and Bo may be gone. Of course that comes after Moore's decision. We'll just have to watch with bated breath and see what happens. High excitement in any case!
  3. Yeah, with all the good and bad about Leach, he sure coached some exciting football, even when I was rooting against him. Prayers and peace to his family and friends.
  4. This one doesn't make a lot of sense to me, I don't know anything about the young man other than watching him play football. With the losses on the O-line he had a really good chance of starting next year, even with some transfers added. Grass often looks greener from a distance.
  5. Which according to some folks at Ohio State is Oregon. Rumor is OSU couldn't offer enough to switch him. That seems weird to me. After all isn't OSU just swimming in all that B1G money that SC and UCLA want in on?
  6. I'm not sure about game changer, but very solid player who meets a critical need, yes. This guy can play the run, but more than anything he covers tight ends and big slots as well as any linebacker out there. Big tight ends and line backers killed us this past season. I think this is a great pick up for the Ducks!
  7. yeah, sounds like the same kind of bright creative mind as Dilly. let's see how he does at getting on the recruiting trail now and keeping some of the guys who have committed and then get some really good new ones. If Bo stays, hope he can put him in a place where he can succeed much like Dilly did. If not let's see how he does with get someone else ready to produce at close to the same level.
  8. Colorado can't be much worse with him than they were without him, so who knows. It looks like they felt the need to fix things quickly. He has proved he can recruit highly rated players to a small stage. He's brought in some good assistants. Add in the portal and they could be a lot better in spite of Sanders, or maybe even because of him. At the very least, it will be a good show in the post game interviews.
  9. Understandable Charles. Do what you need to keep from going crazy. I so appreciate this forum. It is such a good place for me to interact with duck fans in a place where there are not a lot of them. Thanks for all you do!
  10. Great article Dazed! Thanks for the detailed breakdown both of our players and the example of some players possibly available in the portal. I agree with some who said that a turnover of players on a squad that often wasn't very good isn't necessarily a bad thing. But we need player, we need good players. The only place we may be solid (and still not deep) is at inside linebacker. Everywhere else the portal could really help. As well as looking at places not at the peak of their cycle, coaching changes are always places where players decide to leave. There is also the big fish in the small pond player or one bright shinning star on an otherwise bad team (see Gonzales) players to look out for. Bottom line is there will be good players in the portal that can help us. I'm looking forward to who the staff pulls in. I suspect they already have some in mind and will hit the ground running this morning.
  11. Yeah, through much of the game I was thinking this should be Oregon kicking USC butt. Actually we were what, 9 points away from that and with all that has happened around the country, would be headed to the playoffs with those 9 points. I know there is a lot of disappointment, including me, but there should also be a lot of optimism. With a first year coach and a lot of new players, we were 9 points away from the CFP. 9 points.
  12. If we are going to run an offense that features QB runs, many of the most successful offenses do now (even in the the NFL), then Butters was probably the QB we could most afford to lose. Hate to lose anyone, and love Butters as a pocket passer, but a mobile QB that is at least a threat to run makes the offense a lot harder to defend.
  13. So, they have, but have they stopped his offense? Not yet.
  14. Here is my choice if he is available, willing. Warren Ruggiero - Football Coach GODEACS.COM Warren Ruggiero, who has coordinated the most prolific offenses in Wake Forest history over the past Warren Ruggiero has turned Wake Forest, yes Wake Forest, into an offensive juggernaut. Bright, innovative, OC and QB coach. Have no idea if he would be interested. He may absolutely love Winston Salem and never want to leave.
  15. I'll be watching and rooting if it's on my tv and work doesn't prevent it. This years team was offensively oriented all year. I had hoped the O would be back in Oregon football again and it was big time. Now hire a great OC, get a bowl win, sign some great recruits and build momentum for next season! Go Ducks!
  16. Oregon 27-21 3 turnovers 1 sack 262 yards passing
  17. If Dillingham bides his time a little bit, there will be better offers than this coming along. It might be at a lower level than the PAC at first, but with a great chance for success. Then, if he makes the best of that chance, he's in the running for some big time jobs.
  18. Let's just put it this way. I've been to Oregon (visited Eugene), I've been to NE Alabama. I know the SEC plays some good football, but even with that, why would anyone in their right mind choose to live in Alabama over Oregon. Seems like Lanning not only loves coaching at the University of Oregon, he loves living in Eugene and thinks it's a great place to put down roots with his family. I don't think he will leave unless he's not doing well and Oregon wants him to or until all of his kids have graduated from high school.
  19. Absolutely, none of this CFP talk matters if we don't win out. That starts with Saturday. But the possibilities are getting really interesting now. Which makes the stakes a little higher with each game.
  20. Yeah, that's what I thought when I saw the head line, "Making the Case for Dan Lanning and Auburn. There were then articles "making the case for Lane Kiffin..." and several others who are not going to Auburn. Dan Lanning is smart, that is the main reason he's not going to Auburn.
  21. Some of the things that need to happen for the OBD to be in playoff contention are looking pretty good right now. Georgia beat Tennessee, Notre Dame is beating Clemson, LSU leads Bama and is giving them fits with their defense. TCU won, but really didn't look very good doing it. Ohio State was not impressive against a 1 win Northwestern either. Oh, the wind was blowing they say. The wind was blowing in Boulder too. Michigan was trailing Rutgers too, but is leading now.
  22. Do we get the ball to start the second half? Missed the start of the game.
  23. Yeah, been watching some of that, GA's defense has been stopping Tenn. so far, offense not dominating, but efficient and moving the ball.
