4-star WR Gatlin Bair sets commitment date; Oregon Ducks among finalists The Oregon Ducks wide receiver room in the 2024 class is already looking pretty solid with a trio of commitments, but there is a chance that it could get a lot better going forward. 4-star wide receiver Gatlin Bair announced on Thursday that he has set his commitment date, which will come on August 5. Bair, who is rated by 247Sports as the No. 9 WR and No. 35 overall player in the 2024 class, is down to a final group of schools that includes the Ducks, Michigan, Nebraska, Boise State, and TCU. While there are currently no Crystal Ball Predictions on 247Sports, it is the Wolverines who hold a significant lead on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. Michigan currently has a 71.9% chance to land Bair, according to On3, while the Ducks are in second place at 9.2%. We will see on August 5 if the Ducks can add the 4-star recruit or not. Once Bair commits to whichever school he chooses, there is an expectation that he goes on his mission, so it is unlikely that he will return to play football in 2024. Some more East Coast bias? However, not having Coach Prime does take away some of the excitement... Without Deion Sanders in attendance, Pac-12 Media Day might as well pack it up and go home The high-stepping, high-falutin, headline machine has been a polarizing figure, but he’s also lifted one of the conference’s bottomfeeders back out of the doldrums. Hate him or love him, Neon Deion in front of a microphone is no-holds-barred entertainment even if it backfires at times. Without Sanders in attendance, what is the point of a Pac-12 Media Day? They need to get their affairs in order first. The list of topics Pac-12 coaches can discuss that will generate positive headlines for Pac-12 football in 2023 are slim. Chip Kelly’s turnaround of UCLA only draws more attention to the fact that one of the conference’s flagship schools is bouncing for more financially prosperous lands. Oregon staring at the exits complicates their media rights negotiations even further.. Without Deion Sanders in attendance, Pac-12 Media Day might as well pack it up and go home DEADSPIN.COM There’s nothing else exciting going on, admit it and move on

On Wednesday it was revealed via a video by Deion Sanders Jr.'s Well Off Media and Colorado, that Colorado head coach Deion Sanders will in fact not be attending Pac-12 media day on July 21. The reason for this being Sanders is scheduled to have a surgery on a blood clot in his right leg, and will also be having work done to his left foot to straighten out his toes. He will instead be replaced by defensive coordinator Charles Kelly, who will be joining quarterback Shedeur Sanders and two-way star Travis Hunter. This will be Sanders' second procedure in as many months as last month he had a procedure to fix blood clots in his legs due to the fact he wasn’t getting the necessary blood flow throughout his legs and in order order to have two other surgeries: one to fix two hammer toes and one to fix a dislocated left foot. Oregon women's hoops seeking new assistant after Sadie Edwards lands at Baylor The University of Oregon has posted a listing for a new assistant women's basketball coach following Sadie Edwards' decision to leave the Ducks to take the same position at Baylor. Edwards' addition to the Baylor staff was announced on Wednesday morning. She spent just the 2022-23 season at Oregon. Previously, she'd worked with Sabrina Ionescu on the New York Liberty staff. This will be the second staff reshuffling of the offseason. Earlier this summer Kelly Graves tabbed Lisa O'Meara to replace Geanna Luaulu-Summers as the program's director of creativity. Talented '25 WR Caden Butler saw his stock soar this off-season Long Beach Poly (Calif.) junior wide out Caden Butler blew up this off-season, picking up nine scholarships during the month of June. Butler, who transferred in to Poly after previously playing at Olathe (Kan.) North, saw his stock soar after multiple impressive summer camp showings. He has nine total scholarship offers and picked up eight of them in June. Oregon State was the first school to jump on board, offering in mid-May. Butler turned in MVP performances at the NW Showcase and the Avery Strong Showcase in early June. Oregon was next up to offer and didn’t even wait until the camp was over. “It was during one on ones and we had a little water break,” Butler said. “I talked with Junior Adams and then Dan Lanning walked over to me. The historic arena came to be synonymous with UO, but what’s going on with it now? It was an experience nobody that attended a game at McArthur Court would ever forget. When the crowd got loud and raucous, the old arena would actually shake from the ground up. Sitting in the upper levels, you could feel the suspensions swaying. Down in the Pit Crew, the stands, and even the floor itself, would rock with movement. There were no impressive LED jumbotrons, light shows, luxury suites, or state-of-the-art sound systems. It was just an old arena that received all of its energy from the fans themselves. Now, of course, the Ducks play in an arena that would be more expected of a university that prides itself on cutting-edge technology and eye-popping facilities. It can still be a rocking venue, but it’s not quite the same. So while Matthew Knight Arena welcomes Oregon’s indoor teams as well as a slew of other entertainment spectacles, what’s old Mac Court doing while it sits quietly on University Ave across from the old cemetery as it always has? What’s become of McArthur Court? WWW.ADDICTEDTOQUACK.COM The historic arena came to be synonymous with UO, but what’s going on with it now?

Stephen Curry: "I Gotta Go After Sabrina's Record"
Pennsylvania Duck replied to Annie's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Stephen Curry accepts Sabrina Ionescu's challenge to 3-point shootout; LeBron James on board Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry will likely always be known as the greatest three-point shooter in the world of basketball, but over the past few days, there’s been some company on his corner. Once Sabrina Ionescu set the WNBA world on fire over All-Star weekend with a historic performance in the three-point competition, knocking down 25-of-27 shots and scoring an NBA and WNBA record of 37 points in a single round, it started to be questioned whether or not she is as good of a shooter as Curry. That question is a bit tongue-in-cheek, obviously, but the suggestion of a shooting contest between the Oregon legend and the four-time NBA champion is certainly entertaining to consider. Curry has apparently been considering it as well since watching Sabrina go wild on Thursday. The last 10 seasons certainly have been interesting for Oregon football. It has spanned the spectrum for the Ducks, from winning Rose Bowls to having to change coaching staffs four times, three of whom left of other jobs, and one of whom was fired. Even with all of the turnover, Oregon is still one of the best and most consistent teams in the nation. The Ducks’ record stacks up favorably against most teams. While they haven’t been elite as often as expected, they’re nothing to be ashamed of. On the whole, college football has been dominated by Alabama, but now Georgia has supplanted the Crimson Tide for the sport’s No. 1 program. Teams like Clemson, Ohio State, and Michigan have also had a taste of greatness. With the College Football Playoff expanding after the 2023 season, this could be the end of an era. Another Sign of NCAA Favoritism Towards the SEC?

Report: Tennessee Attorney General used NIL law to threaten NCAA to avoid bowl ban Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti cited NIL in helping the Volunteers football program avoid a postseason ban as part of the NCAA’s penalties for a years-long investigation into recruiting infractions during the Jeremy Pruitt tenure, stating that “NCAA rules cannot supersede Tennessee law,” per Adam Sparks of the Knoxville News Sentinel. Skrmetti argued that a NCAA postseason ban would violate the state’s newly-implemented NIL law as it would restrict the athlete’s capability to earn money via NIL to the rate they would otherwise. The law was purposefully amended during the investigation to help Tennessee leverage itself to “produce a favorable verdict” from the NCAA. “Tennessee law prohibits the NCAA from imposing such a sanction and I will not hesitate to vindicate the rights of UT students to enjoy the full measure of ther intercollegiate athletic opportunities,” Skrmetti wrote in a letter he penned to the NCAA Vice President of Legas Affairs Scott Bearby, via Sparks. “NCAA rules cannot supersede Tennessee law.” Report: Tennessee Attorney General used NIL law to threaten NCAA to avoid bowl ban - On3 WWW.ON3.COM The Tennessee attorney general aided the Volunteer football program in helping avoid a postseason ban from the NCAA. -
Earlier this weekend, we went through the ranks of the Pac-12 conference and tried to determine which team was actually the biggest rival to the Oregon Ducks. While it seems like an easy answer on the surface — of course, it’s the Washington Huskies — when you break it down into on-field results and fan vitriol, there were actually a couple of teams that really gave the Dawgs a run for their money. Now we want to expand our scope a little bit and try to identify the biggest non-conference rivals for the Ducks over the years. Each and every season, between pre-conference play and post-season bowl games, the Ducks have gone up against a number of the best teams in the nation, and some matchups have happened enough to the point where a real rivalry has developed. In a couple of other instances, it’s only taken a single game to spur on enough animosity between fan bases that some real hatred has sprouted roots. So of all the non-conference teams that the Ducks have lined up against, which one is the biggest rival? Here are our rankings. This is a fun look back, but not all memories are good ones! Oregon Football: Ranking the Ducks biggest non-conference rivals DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Oregon’s played a lot of big-name schools over the years. How secure is Dan Lanning's job in his second year as coach at Oregon Head coaching positions in college football often have revolving doors, so each year, CBS Sports evaluates every FBS coach and ranks their job security on a scale of 0-5. 0 is reserved for who it sees as “untouchable” while the coaches given a 5 have never sat on a hotter seat. In the 2023 coaching hot seat rankings, Dan Lanning was given a rank of 1 (“safe and secure”), while other notable Pac-12 coaches such as Lincoln Riley, Deion Sanders, and Kyle Whittingham were all given 0’s. Lanning is heading into his sophomore year as an Oregon coach. His freshman year was successful, and the performance of the 2022 Oregon Ducks exceeded most people’s expectations. After only one season, it was pretty safe to assume that CBS wouldn’t see Lanning’s job as in jeopardy. Still, there is information to be gleaned and questions to be asked based on CBS’ evaluations. For example, why is Dan Lanning ranked as a 1 and not a 0? And why are Riley, Sanders, and Whittingham untouchable instead of Lanning? Oregon Football: How secure is Dan Lanning’s job heading into year 2? DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Dan Lanning is entering year 2 as Oregon’s head coach. CBS Sports evaluated how secure his job is going into 2023.

Some coaches in the Pac-12 are under a ton of pressure while others are sitting pretty Finding a good head coach isn't always easy for college football programs. Some programs hit the jackpot like Stanford who outside of these past few seasons had been a power on the West coast with David Shaw at the helm, while others like Colorado are on their fourth coach since 2018. There are many factors that go along determining whether or not a head coach is good, with things such as recruiting, staff building, and culture building all being vital to a program's success. However, not every coach is working under the same circumstances. There are some coaches who have already proved themselves and have earned the respect and trust of their school, while others may be coaching for the job in 2023. The Pac-12 is full of coaches of all kinds of status', having some of the most established coaches in the sport while also having a couple coaches running out of leash. Something that CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd recently broke down, ranking the status of every coach in the FBS from 0-5, with 0 being "untouchable" and 5 being in the "win or be fired" range. I can't believe that this Stanford site posting misspelled "Lanning." Let's take at the status of every coach in the Pac-12. To access the article, click here.

Is Dana Altman zeroing in on final transfer portal addition in 2023? When former Arizona State guard Devan Cambridge announced that he would not actually be transferring to the Oregon Ducks, and instead be going to the Texas Tech Red Raiders, a roster spot opened up in Eugene. For several weeks now, we’ve been waiting to see how Dana Altman was going to choose to use that spot, and if he was ultimately going to fill it before the season began. It appears that a potential target has made itself known.
