  1. I could just summarize and say be better at every phase because we sucked last year at special teams but specifically: 1. Better punt return and kick return coverage. when we kick off and they return it they should not be getting out the the 35 yard line, 25 yard max and frequently our coverage stops them inside the 20. Punt returns minimize the return, stay in lanes, NO big returns. 2. Kick returns, better blocking, better situational awareness. Can't have teams pooch kicking it and recovering the kick because we don't have a clue. 3. Punt returns better blocking which should lead to some longer returns. 4. We did make most of our field goals last year but I'm still not sold on Lewis, need some honest competition for him, may the best man win. 5. Our punter Tom Snee was pretty good last year but I don't see why we can't attract one of the top punters in the nation to Oregon. Need to make it happen. 6. Kickoffs. Was there any team worse than us at kicking the ball out of the end zone in the Pac -12 last year?? I don't think so, that has to improve. Absolutely no reason we cannot be one of the best teams in the Pac-12 on special teams next year that will win us at least 1 extra game.
  2. You never know. If y'all remember Dennis Dixon, he had a lot of talent and just wasn't putting it together. He put a lot of extra time in the off season and it suddenly clicked for him and he became one of the best players in college football. Ty has time and the right attitude so with some more experience the light bulb may suddenly turn on for him. I'm rooting for the guy.
  3. Thanks for stopping by McDawg. We are pretty excited to come to Atlanta and play the reigning national champion this fall. Especially since we have your former Defensive coordinator as our new head coach. I live in Texas, got to see the Ducks play Auburn in Arlington (Bo Nix was the quarterback). Jerry's World is a pretty spectacular place, plus you can't beat the food in Texas. I like the one off's actually. There is a lot of excitement and anticipation for these games and the venues are usually pretty nice stadiums. Not to mention a chance to check out the local food and beverages establishments. It's going to be a great way to start the season, we might even surprise you guys a little bit! Jon my daughter graduated from USC Aiken a few years back. That's a pretty little town. Makes it easy to go watch the Master's if you are lucky enough to get tickets.
  4. If DJ can continue to play at this level that will mean opponents will have to game plan for him a little. Maybe double team him now and then which will free up others to make big plays. Can't wait to see this defense at full speed come fall!
  5. This just shows again how much more it means to Oregon fans. Again referencing back to Oregon is the only school in the Pac-12 that has a SEC "feel" to it. Another recruiting tool for DL!
  6. David Cobb needs pump the brakes just a wee bit. But thanks for the bulletin board material!
  7. Man I wish I could be up in Eugene for the game this weekend and just to see some of these former players. What a great time it's going to be!
  8. 19 potential visitors, that is awesome! Hopefully coming out of the weekend we have a few more commits!
  9. That would be a nice feature if they gave you the NIL cost of the recruits!
  10. I really think the coaches will play it close to the vest all the way up to the first game in regard to who is the no 1 quarterback. They will probably let all know the competition is ongoing and both Ty and Jay are neck and neck, and Bo is just slightly ahead. We really need all of these guys to stick around, if possible. We know Bo is here for the long haul and most likely starts against Georgia and BYU. I suspect the Eastern Washington game we will see alot of both Jay and Ty. Then once the Pac-12 schedule starts I'm guessing Bo is the guy but that doesn't mean Jay or Ty can't continue to improve and take over the no 1 spot later in the season. And probably Bo goes down at some point with an injury (minor not trying to jinx things here just statistically speaking pretty likely) so someone will have to step up at that point and could be the guy for the remainder of the season.
  11. Speaking of untapped potential, at the same meet that Micah ran 9.83 there was a high school kid from Washington DC named Nyckoles Harbor. He ran 10.2 something. He is 6-5 and 225 lbs 5 star athlete. Bright kid with a ton of potential in both track and football. He plans on doing both in college. I'm hoping we can get him out for a visit to Hayward and Autzen as I would think we would have a pretty good shot at him once he visited. If you are serious about track how can you not consider coming to Eugene, right?
  12. Divisions are a thing of the past we need to move forward and go to some kind of pod system. We need to get ahead of the trend here rather than being dragged kicking and screaming into the new world of college football.
  13. Riley is a really good coach, he's proved it as an offensive coordinator and taking over the Sooner job. He took them up a level from where Bob Stoops was and if he had stayed at Oklahoma and they had stayed in the Big 12 they would have continued to challenge for the conference title every year and for the playoff. He is a huge improvement over Helton and they will be competing for the south title sooner rather than later. Do you remember the epic games we had with USC a few years back? The entire country tuned into those games because they meant something. Those games are coming back. The interest is already building. People expect USC to be good and Oregon to be good and they want to see the clash of titans again. It's coming, it might start this year or it may begin next year but its definitely coming. This is going to bring alot eyeballs to the Pac-12 at least for one game. That's a good thing.
  14. Riley is a very good proven coach and recruiter. It's going to take a couple years to clean up the dumpster fire he inherits, but he will bring USC back there is no doubt in my mind about that. We should respect the Trojans just as we should respect all our opponents (ok that is stretching it when it comes to the butt lickers). They will definitely compete for top end talent at all the skill positions. They do have some talent on the offensive and defensive line (Corey Foreman) but obviously need some more. If and when they finally start getting talent consistently in the trenches that's when they will be dangerous. Respect your opponent, never fear them.
  15. Absolutely stunning footage! Hayward field is unbelievable. I would have liked to see a little more footage of Autzen stadium and the buildings and facilities over there. Otherwise A+!
  16. This article encapsulates exactly what I said and if I was Lincoln Riley I'd be on a plane to Georgia right now to talk to both those guys about playing for the Trojans. If the Trojans can get Amarius Mims that would be a big step in solving their offensive line issues.
  17. Since Riley lost out on the Connerly sweepstakes I wonder if he is pursuing Amarius Mims the 5* tackle from Georgia or Clay Webb a 5* IOL from Georgia since both just entered the portal. That might solve a few offensive line problems for them. What used to take a few years to rebuild now can happen overnight thanks to the portal.
  18. Mark Emmert makes Larry Scott look brilliant. What an idiot. How do you not at least try and get out in front of this a few years back. Instead the NCAA is dragged kicking and screaming into the new reality of college football with absolutely no plan, no idea how to proceed. Pretty much spells the end for the NCAA and it's association with college football. Just a matter of time. Conferences need to get together and start planning a new overriding organization to regulate college football. My concern is as some have discussed on here is the breakup of the Pac-12 which to me seems almost inevitable. We had our chance when Texas and Oklahoma bolted for the SEC to expand and make the PAC-12 a major player. Now I'm not sure what will happen. I not to worried about Oregon but it will be a sad day when the Pac-12 goes bye-bye.
  19. That moved us up from 25th to the 16th best class in the natiion in 2022. Oh yes did I forget to mention the number 1 class in the Pac-12 AGAIN!!!
  20. Thanks 30duck that was a great clip of the Georgia defense and how they handle a scrambling quarterback. This kind of stuff gets me pumped!
  21. The proximity to talent is huge no doubt. But if you haven't lived in the south and seen how high school football is treated down here, it's just different. There are a few programs notably in California that really take football seriously but it's no where near the scale you see all across the southeast. High school football stadiums are on par with alot of group of 5 stadiums and they fill those stadiums on Friday nights. Top High school coaches in the south make good money. The mindset is different. But Oregon is different than just about any other school in the Pac 12. The fans have a similar attitude to fans in the Southeast. We have invested in everything to be competitive with the best the SEC and the Big 10 has to offer but it will take a little time. Just look what happened to Clemson when they got serious about football. It took a little while but eventually with a little luck they turned the corner and became one of best programs out there. Clemson is in a area with more talent close by but in todays day and age with technology I think that is mattering less and less. We are on the verge and I think if we can hold this staff together for a few years and a little luck we to can turn that corner. I'm keeping my fingers crossed with this staff but I got a good feeling about them. My green colored glasses see a rosy future for our ducks!
  22. Agree with you Hayward. The money spent on football in the Southeast is way more than what programs spend out west. That is what the "means more" is all about. From that perspective it does mean more in the Southeast. In recruiting the Southeast goes all out for top recruits and admittedly they do have a lot more in their own backyard. Out west who recruits as hard as say Alabama or Georgia? No one did until Mario came to Oregon and we started leveraging our facilities and opportunities at the U of O to compete with the SEC schools (I should include the Big 10 in this). We can compete with them because it does "mean more" at Oregon and we have put the money into our facilities, coaches, and academics to compete. It's Mighty Oregon folks and you better watch out for us, we are coming for a National Championship!
  23. That was some great insight! Thanks Charles for providing that. That just gets me fired up for not only the football season but spring ball cannot wait to see how the NEW AND IMPROVED Oregon Ducks look! GOOOOO DUUCKS!!!!
  24. The results have been disappointing so far this year no doubt. on the bright side we still have baseball, softball, and track & field to look forward too. Maybe one of those sports can come through for us. Not sure what is expected from the track teams this year but excited to see how they do. The facilities are just phenomenal. The womens softball team has performed pretty darn well also. Hopefully that will tide us over until fall camp starts! Go ducks!
