  1. I’m surprised that Cardwell selected Cal but wish him the best, except for when he plays Oregon. He is a talented running back and I hope he is able to showcase it at Cal.
  2. I personally haven’t been impressed in the limited times I’ve seen DJU play for Clemson. He is big and mobile for his size and would have been a great fit for Chip Kelly’s spread option offense at Oregon (a bigger Masoli) but doesn’t seem to make great decisions and is not the most accurate passer. If Oregon signs DJU, I’d be worried that TT transfers and we would also lose out on potentially signing a top transfer QB in next year’s class. Therefore, unless he was a package deal with his brother, I’d say “thanks but no thanks.” I think stepping down a level and playing for Hawaii would be in his best long term interests. If he puts up huge numbers at Hawaii, perhaps the NFL would be interested given his measurables and arm strength. On the flip side, his talent is off the charts. Perhaps transferring to Oregon and sitting behind Bo Nix, while working with Stein would put his career back on track? Plus, I’m going to have to learn how to pronounce his last name with Matayo joining the team anyway…
  3. Great question! I’ll start off with the positions that I feel most confident in. Oregon is absolutely stacked at running back and wide receiver! We might have the most talent and depth at those positions in Oregon’s history. At QB, I feel okay. I’d love to add a proven QB transfer like Hudson Card to back up Bo Nix but that seems unlikely. Adding a walk on QB or two would be a wise move, IMHO. I feel a lot better with the 3 offensive line transfer pickups. Those players should be able to step in right away and contribute. We also have some talent returning and hopefully they are ready to step up by the fall. I’m personally most concerned about all 3 levels on defense (DL, LB, secondary) with what we saw last year and the players that are leaving the program due to graduation or the NFL. We have a lot of scholarship players on defense, perhaps too many. However, are the players we have upgrades vs. last year, in the short term?
  4. The Niners have taken chances on super talented players with histories of injuries. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t… In this case, I believe it’s worth the risk since he plays a position of great need for Oregon. Based on his highlights, Jalen Catalon is a super athletic, playmaker in the secondary and appears that he would be an upgrade over anyone else on the roster. Perhaps this is our coaching staff’s plan B after losing out on a 5-star prep safety? Herbie said that he is one of the best safeties in college football and he was a captain at Arkansas. You can’t teach athleticism so I say “bring him in, if you can!”
  5. Getting Bo Nix back for one more year was the best pickup for the program. He makes Oregon an instant playoff contender next year, will help our new OC in the transition and should help keep the excitement going strong in Coach Lanning’s Oregon football program which will hopefully payoff in future recruiting classes and the transfer portal. Besides Nix, I love what our coaches have done in the transfer portal picking up a WR, CB and possibly most important some really good offensive linemen. Talk about plugging some immediately needs with proven players. I love that we have recruited high school players with really high ceilings. Don’t sleep on Jayden Limar - the dude is fast - and will be the lightning to Dowdell’s thunder. It’s an exciting time to be a Duck. As Anthony Newman said we have players who want to be in Eugene. Go Ducks!!!
  6. I loved Anthony Newman’s response to “losing” a 5-star recruit. Who gives a d@mn?! We want players who want to be in Eugene!
  7. Wow. Rated the #1 JC OT and #3 JC player overall. 6 foot 7 and 295 pounds! Big pickup who can hopefully make an immediate impact next season.
  8. One site had 100% Oklahoma, but I haven’t seen anything from “insiders” or those “close to the Hicks’ family.”
  9. If the Pac wants to be one of the best conferences, we need to keep the top players on the West coast.
  10. Below is how Georgia’s roster (88 total) looked in May 2022 for comparison purposes: QB - 4 (+1 vs. Oregon) RB - 5 (0) WR - 11 (0) TE - 6 (+1) OL - 18 (+3) DL - 13 (-2) OLB - 7 (-3) ILB - 8 (+2) DB - 13 (-6) Specialists - 3 (-1) Based on the above, it appears that Oregon has way too many defensive backs. I’m assuming it’s going to be a fierce competition in the spring and then we’ll see a number of transfers. We may also have a few too many defensive linemen/outside linebackers. Georgia Football Scholarship Count (May 10, 2022) WWW.ON3.COM Georgia's had a busy offseason of transfers, so we took the time to...
  11. It’s tough for a coach to come in that late and have an immediate impact on recruiting. Dan Lanning said that he was just trying to keep Oregon’s recruiting class together last year and that this class was the first that he’s had the opportunity to build relationships with the recruits and family.
  12. Peyton, like all of these top recruits, had a difficult decision to make. I got the feeling that he was really torn and he admitted that he could have handled the process better. That shows a lot of maturity. It’s time to move on and wish him the best of luck. The transfer portal is always open, if it doesn’t work out in Norman.
  13. Wouldn't they have negotiated the NIL deal before announcing his commitment on live television?
  14. Good early pickup. Watching some of his highlight tapes, Jordan reminds me a bit of Kris Hutson.
  15. I agree that Oklahoma is closer. Although a 3+ hour drive is not fun. The original post was comparing the travel time from Dallas to Eugene vs. South Bend. The total travel time is ~50 minutes more to Eugene than to South Bend (3 hours and 37 minutes to Eugene vs. 2 hours and 46 minutes to South Bend). I doubt that would be the deciding factor between Oregon and Norte Dame. Plus, with NIL $$$ the family could easily travel now to see Peyton play, if they wanted to, and pay for TSA Pre-Check!
  16. Oregon = Peyton’s choice Notre Dame = parents’ choice Oklahoma = compromise? Wonder what Oklahoma fans think about this and how Peyton will be received in Norman? How long before he is in the transfer portal? I feel bad for Peyton. This is supposed to be HIS moment. He is a heck of a player and I wish him the best wherever he plays ball.
  17. WHAT FLIGHT ARE YOU TAKING?!!! There is a direct flight from Eugene to Dallas that takes ~3.5 hours. I took it a few months ago. It can't be much further from Dallas to Eugene than it is from Dallas to South Bend, Indiana. Is there a direct flight from South Bend to Dallas?
  18. I wish Noah the best. It has been a true pleasure watching him play for the Ducks. He gave the program his all and appears to be a terrific young man. Once a Duck, always a Duck!!!
  19. The Wilcox hire never made any sense to me. Oregon would not even had him on their list of potential head coaches, if he weren’t a former Oregon player. Disaster avoided.
  20. I’ll be interested to see how many of the highly rated recruits develop into impact players on the field. Looking back at Mario’s classes there appears to be a lot of misses (i.e., players haven’t made a significant contribution or transferred out). Not sure if this was poor evaluation or coaching. Of course, there are the can’t miss players (e.g., Kayvon, Noah) and Mario was very good at recruiting offensive lineman. I’m most excited about the roster turnover. We could be starting fall practices with over half the roster recruited by the current staff, including transfers. It’s clear that Dan and Tosh want size (tall and big) and athleticism on the defensive line, and many bodies to rotate to keep fresh. The top secondary players that I’ve seen are tall, athletic/fast and have great ball skills (some were receivers or returners for their H.S. teams). It’s an exciting time to be a Duck fan!
  21. No offense but this is not what is happening, according to reports. Peyton wants to be a Duck but his parents want him to go to Norte Dame. Peyton Bowen’s high school tape is amazing. He is all over the field and is a ball hawk. Reminds me of Patrick Chung. Would be a huge pickup for Oregon and I would expect him to make an immediate impact. He will get paid regardless of where he goes. Hope the parents let the young man make his own decision but, unfortunately, I’ve seen this scenario play out before...
  22. Well deserved!!! Smoke em’ if you got em’!
  23. Regardless of what happens from here on out, I’m excited about the class that our coaches were able to pull together. We’ve addressed a number of positions of need with elite talent. There are some players who could have an immediate impact. Most importantly we have signed player who want to be Ducks and play in Eugene. As Dan Lanning proudly said not one signee from last year’s class has entered the transfer portal.
  24. Regardless of what Jurrion decides (I hope he’s a Duck), the coaches knocked it out of the park with this class because it has addressed positions of needs. We lost Moore but signed Austin Novosad, who could end up the better college QB. We got transfers from two proven offensive line studs (Ajani Cornelius and Junior Angilau). We signed a number of tall, athletic defensive lineman, headlined by 5-star Matayo Uiagalei and still have a shot at another 5-star David Hicks. We’ve brought in a bunch of secondary talent, including Daylen Austin and brought in another transfer CB from Alabama, who was the #1 JC player last year. I hope that Peyton Bowen sends his LOI to Oregon, if that’s where his heart is but, in not, Oregon will be fine and perhaps looks for a transfer safety. Oregon will be fine at wide receiver. We have Hudson and Franklin returning and signed a transfer from Alabama. No, today was a GREAT day to be a Duck. Our coaches gave recruited positions of needs. We have player signing with Oregon who want to be in Eugene. And we are not done, yet!!!!
