Did Bo Nix Make Our Past O-lines Look Better Than They Really Were?
OregonDucks replied to Ben H's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
My biggest concern is that Oregon may see a bit of a drop off of offensive line play now that we are turning over the Mario Cristobal’s offensive linemen. Say what you will about MC but he is a heck of an offensive line evaluator, recruiter and coach. Excluding transfers, how has Oregon’s recruitment been of blue chip high school offensive lineman? I know that we have signed a few elite tackles but what about guards. -

LOL. In his post game press conference, Coach Lanning was asked what was said in the locker room following the game and he basically said that he wanted to keep it in the room. -

Well that is a pretty high bar, especially after game 1. Bo Nix was a top 12 pick in last year’s NFL draft, set the single season college completion % record and is the starting QB for the Denver Broncos. Perhaps we should all (including myself) lower our expectations a tad… DG is a VERY good college QB, who has proven he can put up points, win a big game in the 4th quarter and should be able to lead a high scoring Oregon offense, if we can improve the offensive line play. -
They played fundamentally sound football and should do very well this season. However, they had no business being in that game.

Dillon Gabriel is a much better runner than Dante Moore, who is more of a pocket passer. I’m surprised that DG didn’t scramble on that play that you mentioned but perhaps our coaches are trying to protect his health, as he’s not the biggest QB and was injured last season, or he is working on his pocket passing this season. -

Perhaps that’s because he didn’t have confidence in the O-line? That was the worst offensive line play I’ve seen at Oregon in many years… -
I Only Have One Word for This Game...

Uninspiring. Oregon didn’t come ready to play. Terrible offensive line play, penalties and our offense couldn’t capitalize in the red zone. The defense was good with the exception of two drives. -

He was covering on the pass that the Idaho receiver dropped. The announcers were saying it should have been an offensive PI since the receiver shoved him. -

If Oregon survives, I would drop them to the bottom of the top 10 (8-9?) and, if they lose, I would place them in the 20s. -

I would probably take Boise State and the points right now. Oregon looks vastly over-rated. -

Oline has been disappointing. They are looking better right now and our RBs are starting to run with more authority. -

He may be getting a call from Gainesville, Florida soon. LOL.

I turned the game off in the first half but the final score indicates an impressive victory against a talented team. Georgia should be ranked #1 until someone knocks them off. Respect. -

The Georgia-Clemson game is boring. Some will say that it’s elite defenses and that may be true. However, I prefer a mix of good offense and defense. The Oregon-Washington games last year were the perfect example (even if Oregon came out on the wrong side) - elite QB play w/ some key stops on D. -

Wish Stanford and Cal were added to the B1G to form a West Coast Pod. Maybe they will be, if ND decides to join, and they are willing to depart with Cal… -

It feels strange to be rooting for B1G schools in OOC games. [I still will not root for those mutts up north, no matter what…] -
I feel bad for TT. He has a lot of talent and unfortunately it has not worked out for him. By all accounts, he was a good teammate and was loyal to Oregon. I was hoping that he could transfer down and get a shot to start. TT may need to look to transfer again, if he has eligibility remaining.

The talent gap on WSU and OSU roster, if there is one, will continue to shrink and after they run out of the money they stole from the departing PAC-12 schools those schools will not be able to afford top shelf coaching staffs. In a couple of years, WSU and OSU will fit right in the Mountain West. I would be shocked if the ACC or Big-12 decides to add these schools. They are reportedly trying to strong arm ESPN to get them in but I doubt that their potential lawsuit has any merit.

I don’t mind, especially the first game to get the kinks out. Most of the other top teams schedule these games. SEC schools schedule 2-3.
